Do you remember last summer? Would you describe that as a plan? We are arguably one of the worst run football clubs in the world right now. I wouldn't disregard the notion of not having a plan in place, we are genuinely clueless at the moment. Still we have no DOF in place might I remind you.

I’m sure there is a plan. Being able to execute it effectively is what worries me. Not having a DOF going into the summer is inexplicable.

De ligt and Tuanzebe would make a good partnership. Solid pairing for the future.

I see the optimism with De Ligt but what makes you at all certain about Tuanzebe? Has he played a single top flight match?

Still seems like a gamble for me.

I hear so much about Lindelof's ball playing abilities which i think is ridiculously overrated. If that is the benchmark, then Tuanzebe will be like Sammer or Beckenbauer. The only thing lacking in Tuanzebe is experience and heading abilities, which is the same for Lindelof. Play him next season and lets go back to the highline pressing we had so much successes in the early months of Ole'd tenure. The boy deserves it.

Yes he has and he was excellent.

It's odd to me that so many of our supporters are saying get rid of the cancerous cells in our dressing room and then long for Raiola's hottest new agent to be signed at all costs...

If he suits Ole's demands by all means sign him up, but I reckon that if he is signed he will be signed for all the wrong reasons.... $$$$

Signing for money doesn't equate to an attitude problem though. Most footballers have a proffesional attitude

If his primary focus is to sign with us cause offer a higher salary than say Barca then he's here for the wrong reasons. He can earn a good wage but still see the main reason for signing as wanting to be part of a successful United again.

I'm wary if he signs for us over Barca myself, only time will tell of course. Any sane player if given the chance would now sign for a host of other clubs over us in our current state.

de ligt is incredibly level-headed

There is no (well thought out) plan, buddy.
When Fergie left, we shat ourselves and the best candidate we could come up with David Moyes. There was no succession plan. Fergie left. Moyes came in and fired the entire back room staff. Only a fool would believe that this was a "plan".
When Jose was fired, Ole was brought in. This was a not a long term planned move, but a knee-jerk reaction to the toxicity, to get the feel good factor back. This season was a write off and the board knew it after they screwed up in the Summer.
Last Summer, the only plan in place was to save as much money as possible and go against the wishes of the manager. Jose thought we'd improve the squad to go from 2nd to 1st. Woodward was rubbing his hands with the belief that he had a manager who could get top 4 with a poor squad.

Agree with the last paragraph. Which is sad.

Which is exactly why I think it's unlikely he'll end up here right now. De Ligt will prioritise challenging for titles and playing with the best players over money. Unfortunately United isn't the best club for that right now.

Meh I wouldn't mind it at this current period, but in reality he doesn't need a stepping stone, he's already one of the best defenders in world football. Barca want him, all that talk of a relationship between Barca and ajax, de Jong just went to Barca... I'd say it's almost a guarantee he goes to Barca.
I think is very likley he goes there... Raiola will of course make sure he is linked with several other clubs to ensure Barca cough up a bit more cash but the potential plus side as I see it is that umtitti has already fallen out of the team and he is far too good to be a 4th pick centre back (and far too valuable)... Might be able to pick him up at a decent price and I could see him and lindeloff as a good partnership

Does this happen in real life though?

Players have one or two clubs they really want to play for, and if none of them want to sign him the player spends their entire career not bothering their arse?

He could always sign for Barcelona in less money if that’s what he wants to do.

I'd love to sign him. Let's be realistic though. He would be fecking mad to come to us. Barca or City most likely.

"Hey Matthijs, so you can play with Pique, Lenglet & Umtiti, or Laporte, Kompany & Stones, or Lindelof, Jones & Big Mikey Smalling... Which one you fancy?"

Real tough choice for the lad there.

Would you like to be captained by Leo Messi or by Ashley Young?

hmmmmm

Raiola is his agent now when it comes to transfers and contracts. De Ligt has another agent Hulshoff, who was previously his only agent but he has no experience on dealing with transfers on this level. Hulshoff is a former Netherlands and Ajax player, he helped De Ligt develop as a player, and nowadays acts more as an advisor and mental coach. Hulshoff and Raiola are opposites in many ways, he likely advises De Ligt to stay with Ajax or go to Barcelona.
Oh is that permanent? Thought I saw that it was just for this transfer.

Isn't that the title of most articles? I didn't click on any links to read through... As for Raiola : random google search gives one of the following links https://www.calciomercato.com/en/ne...de-ligt-away-from-barcelona-juve-and-ma-42222 : the first sentence is "Mino Raiola is pushing his star client Matthijs de Ligt away from Barcelona".

My point remains, if his heart is set on Barca, he should go there.
Yeah, but that's just how Barca and Real work in the media. Every player they're linked with dreams of playing for them apparently. With another Dutch youngster already having left Ajax for them, it's an even easier story to sell.

Yeah, it's not just for this transfer, it's more that this transfer is what caused De Ligt to first hire Raiola last year. He knew he needed someone else besides Hulshoff.

Ah alright, thanks for the info. Good choice by him.

"He will have the choice to join whoever he wants, but he has no interest in going to United. They are not the attractive proposition they once were."

In that case, Koulibaly would be the best option. Let's hope we are attractive to him.

I’m not betting on signing him, but I’m not writing off the possibility based on a made up Daily Star quote either.

Barca are going to win the CL and reinforce by signing the best young midfielder and best young defender in the world.

That mentality is why we are miles behind them. Watch us spend cash on shite.

If we played like Barca, and competed for titles they'd want to join us too. But we are busy backing up and another unworthy manager.

We could do with Umtiti if De Ligt joins Barca, right? He's been pretty good whenever I've seen him play, mainly for France.

Injury prone?

I don’t see us a chance getting this guy, basically almost zero. There are lots of competitors and those clubs have already established their squad to be major Comp challenger compared to us, let’s move on.

Which brings me to the point: with everyone jizzing their pants over this guy, should we give up on him and focus our efforts in the likes of Koulibaly and Skriniar?

After Barca's crap show tonight they will be going all out for him on Messi's instruction.

Forget about De Ligt another Dutch defender who is miles better than most of our centrehalfs Nathan Ake.

Even Koulibaly looks impossible. The best that we can get is Maguire or some not very well known one like how we got Bailly & Lindelof.

"... his agent Mino Raiola is now trying to get the Catalan club back to the negotiating table...
Barca remain interested in doing a deal for De Ligt, although a club source has told ESPN FC they "will not go crazy" when it comes to matching any new demands Raiola may put forward. The Catalan club have a spiralling wage bill and do not want to push their salary limit even closer to the edge..."
