And not a mention of us when he is exactly the type of signing we are crying out for.

He is not what we need now. I get it, he is brilliant and has huge potential but he is a 19 year old kid from Dutch league. Will take atleast couple of years to even start playing well and would demand close to 80m. Since we don't have unlimited budget, What we need now is a CB who can take over the complete backline . For greater goods, its ok to pass up certain young talents. Its only temporary .

He's actually playing incredibly well now, which is amazing for a 19 year old CB. This lad is for the future and for now.

I am no football expert, but how much football I have seen, I haven't seen any defender in past 20 years who looked so mature of his age as this guy looks. He literally is complete in every aspect. Some of the things he does, reminds me of peak Vidic and Rio. Most astonishing thing is that he has all the best qualities of them both. There is a reason every club in the world in dying to have him in their team.

Raiola does not want to sell the Dutchman to the Catalan club. He prefers United .

Erm, he's actually delivering in the Champions League as well.

Sometimes age is a good indicator and factor when trying to asses things in life. Other times, the fixation on age can be stumbling block when trying to asses outright quality. Here we have a once-in-a-lifetime generational talent that has proofed himself on the biggest stage for a significant amount of time (played EL final in 2017 and is on the verge of bringing his team as a captain to CL final), yet some people still obsessively fall over his age.

De Ligt is no talent anymore. He is already an established world-class player.

Raiola has said in the past that he always advises his players to join a club where there is a great need for them.

I think there's a great need for De Ligt at United I'd say..

Great need is quite subjective...
Presumably a club can show exactly how great it's need is by making a proportionally large payment to his agent

Um, do you think it's still 2017 or something? He's been excellent for some time now, far more than just a young talent.

Yeah, with Solskjaer's appointment he's sniffing another £200m summer.

Raiola for DOF

:nervous:

His heart seems to be set on Barca, anyone buying him for more money in their stead is just providing the shop window for Raiola to pawn him off at a higher price to Barca eventually.
It is in Raiola's interest that he does not join his dream club immediately, he makes more money if there is a stepping-stone (and so does the player).

If De Ligt delivers on the pitch I can live with the Raiola drama off it

Who told you? I'm also pretty sure Raiola isn't actually his agent either.

Will you guys love Raiola if he got us De Ligt?

I think it's more a case he's using us to get more money for him and his client off the back of Ajax success in CL. I think this deal has already been agreed, and now they want to squeeze a wee bit more out of it. Of course we'd love to have him but bit like the Ramos talk a couple seasons ago,I don't see any chance.

I’d love it. Dream signing. Amazing prospect. He’ll he’s one of the best already. I’m not getting sucked in though. Too old too sober.

It's certainly not Madrid. They've got Ramos, Militao and Varane (who Zizou has confirmed as staying)

Raiola for DOF

:nervous:

Seriously - a large part of a DoF's job is to negotiate with players, agents and selling the club to top players. Raiola can do that part of it very well and you can hire someone else to determine transfer policy. The manager, the chief scout and the DoF together need to have a combined skillset to identify players, identify if they fit our philosophy and negotiate with clubs / agents and get it done. It doesn't matter how the exact responsibilities are sliced and diced between them.

On the other hand, being an agent I assume pays a lot better than being a DoF for Man Utd (I assume there's some conflict of interest rules around not doing both jobs at the same time)

How long before he is average, lazy, couldn't give a feck and not as good as he thinks he is though. I would love us to sign him just to see if he would turn to shit or not.

I often hear that Scholes son is one of the 'don't you know who I am' types...got a reputation in the local area for being a bit of a knob! He's just been convicted for assault recently in Uppermill.
To be fair to him, I don't think you'd find many 19 year olds that have an opinion that strays far from his.

What if he stays at Ajax?
Could do being captain an all that but this squad will get pillaged at the end of the season and I would imagine once De Jong and Van Der Beek or Ziyach leave then it will be a sign to the rest of the squad that we're not going to be competing at the same level this coming season.

Hard to stay motivated for something like that you could argue.

Raiola is his agent now when it comes to transfers and contracts. De Ligt has another agent Hulshoff, who was previously his only agent but he has no experience on dealing with transfers on this level. Hulshoff is a former Netherlands and Ajax player, he helped De Ligt develop as a player, and nowadays acts more as an advisor and mental coach. Hulshoff and Raiola are opposites in many ways, he likely advises De Ligt to stay with Ajax or go to Barcelona.

Only confirmed exit is De Jong though?
