If it's true PSG have offered 340,000 a week for a 19 year old then they're welcome to him :lol:crazy.

Love how salty Barca get when something goes against them.

Unfortunately can't offer him champions league football but can satisfy his wage demands and Mino's agent fees.

Woodward needs to get on a plane to Paris before it's too late.
This Champions League stuff is bollocks to be honest.

Let's be realistic, we're going to invest so much this summer that missing out on the top 4 next year (with Chelsea not allowed to sign players and Arsenal having £50m to spend) would be almost impossible.

9 months without Champions League football isn't the end of the world for a young lad aged 21. It's not like any of the teams he's going to join are going to win it anyway, if anything, we'll have a better chance in a couple of seasons if we keep recruiting players like him.

De Ligt is 19, not 21. He has far better options than United, plus you're taking it for granted that you're only out of the Champions League for one season while it's actually been 4 out of the last 6 seasons that you've missed out, so far from a certainty that you'll be back next year.

Funny that you start off with let's be realistic because you're just being optimistic instead of realistic.

I think its way too early to be making claims like that. Maybe once the window is closed and we've seen who we've brought in, but so far we've just got a terrible squad, our best players want out, and we've got a very questionable manager. We managed a month or two good form in the whole of last season.

tbf he's not wrong. Looking at it objectively if you get the chance to play for Barcelona why would you not jump at it?
Its all just speculation, but it seems like Barca might very well have been his first choice but that they cant compete with what we, PSG or even Liverpool has offered Ajax and himself. I dont really see how De Ligt can force Ajax to take what might be way less money just so he will be allowed to move there. And then there is Raiola wanting his take. As usual seems very entitled from the Barca brass. If they really want him, match the offers being made. Simple.

More like 2 out of the last 6 seasons, next season will be 3/7 though. Or at least we've been playing CL 4 times in the last 6 seasons I think. Man this is depressing, why'd you have to rub that in :(

Does anyone know how much Barcelona is rumored to offer him in weekly wages?

Rumoured to be offered the same wages as Frenkie de Jong.

19 then, even better.

He doesn't have better options. On what planet are PSG and Barcelona better options? PSG are nothing but an embarrassment to themselves and Barcelona are on the wane and will be fecked once Messi goes/becomes less effective in the next couple of years.

United are only going in one direction as long as they stay true to the current transfer model.

You missed out the part where Chelsea just lost their best player and can't sign anyone and where Arsenal only have £50m to spend. Can you guarantee Tottenham will strengthen an ageing team also? With their best midfielder wanting away? United will finish in the top 4 next season.

Well feck me for being optimistic about things...

The preachyness of Barcelona really does my head in. like it's some sort of universal privilege to play for that bunch of whiny tits. If you want him, match the offer of other clubs or feck off.

Twats.

I think we'll spend big regardless. We can't lose players and not replace them, we haven't got enough depth as it is. The squad is disjointed and a miss match of different managers idea's, hopefully keeping the current manager and letting him build something will come good in the end.

Our best players will stay now they've realised they won't get paid more elsewhere, we've created our own market. I'm not concerned.

Both Frenkie's and De Ligt's agents are smart. Barca are playing the "we are Barca, so we'll try to get these feckers cheap" game, both with Ajax and the players. It's such an honour blah blah. Didn't work before, doesn't work now.

Because there's the giant pile of money Barca and other big clubs make each year, so it's just business. The players should get what the market price is for their talents, nothing less. They budged when they tried to get Frenkie on the cheap and he was about to sign for PSG. The question is if they'll budge now, if their salary budget allows it and if the need for a CB matches the costs. If not, De Ligt will not be a philanthropist and essentially pay millions a year for the "honour", he would be a fool to do so.

You've missed out on top 4 in 4 of the last 6 seasons (18/19, 16/17,15/16 and 13/14) but I think were in one additional CL because you won the EL during one of those seasons. Sounds like a miserable record indeed tbh yeah.

United are only going in one direction as long as they stay true to the current transfer model.
I swear this would read like a negative comment in isolation because most on the Caf seem to agree that you're either stagnating or going downwards. In what alternate world do you think your current transfer model (do you even have one?) is going to get you back to the top while nothing so far has proven that? Of course it's your good right to be optimistic as a fan, you should be, but even your manager is unproven at this point. The targets you seem to be going to get are a RB, a CM and a winger coming from the Championship, they might improve you a tad but they're not going to propel you back to the top in one go, far from it.

In no scenario whatsoever is Barcelona, the team that handily beat you without getting out of first gear a few months back, a less attractive destination for him than United, and that's only thinking about footballing reasons, not living conditions etc.

People here are commenting "ah he's choosing money over football because he's joining PSG" but forget that the only reason he'd be even willing to consider United at this moment is exactly because of the same reason, i.e. you're able to give him a lot more money than most other teams.

You make it sound like the only clubs that are after him are mid-table minnows which isn't exactly the case.

And yet here we are, finished 6th in league, look miles away from winning the league and thinking this young lad is chomping at the bit to sign for us.
Don't worry, i'm fully aware of those facts. My remark was more about the Abidal Instagram post.

Dying to know how many who were all about us making him an offer he can't refuse are now calling him a mercenary for considering a big money offer from PSG. Any xG nerds have the data to run a test?

So far Utd are indeed going only one direction and it's backwards. On what planet are Barcelona and PSG better options than Utd at the moment? Planet Earth mate.

The money offered isn't surprising we offered around 16 million yearly supposedly so that's around the 300k mark. I don't think PSG would be good for his development but it's more a certainty he'll play there (starting 11) compared to Barcelona.

I was trying to put it more eloquently than that but basically this, yeah.

I rather give De Ligt 340,000 a week than Sanchez 500,000 a week. Regardless, it is an absurd amount, but PSG know that they are getting a quality player who has potential to improve. United should have offered something similar and sell Lukaku and Sanchez to help fund that signing.

I think Mbappe is on somewhere around 500,000/week. Surely no one slates PSG for overpaying it?
Look at the bigger picture: They are basically having prime Ronaldo and prime Maldini in the form of Mbappe and De Ligt in the same team, maturing and improving... I say 1 millions/week is still cheap for such a huge luxury.

There's a difference between paying a world class goalscorer that money, and a CB.

While I think De Ligt will be worth it in the long run, it's very risky to pay that sort of money if he flops.
