Technically, VvD was the major reason for Liverpool's success, so let us not underestimate what a world class CB can do.

That being said, yes, he is 19 and Raiola has inflated his head with a sense of self-importance.

People are railing against Arabs owning clubs, we should first look at how slimeballs like Raiola are ruining the game from behind the scenes. He could well be more detestable than any human rights violator.
Raiola is obviously very good at his job.

You should take a minute and reflect, this must be the most brain-dead post of 2019.

I really hope the rumors of him going to PSG turn out to be true, not just for his impact on the field, but also because I will never run out of salt on this forum ever again.

Oh man that's all I am thinking too

Paris is just not a football winning city (the domestic bullshit trophies aside). They should have taken over Marseille. There are certain cities in this world that for whatever reason will never produce major domestic/European/global winning habits, cities like Bristol, Dallas. Busan in South Korea, Lodz, Brasilia, and Khartoum.

You forgot to type Tottenham.

But that's not what he said. He said we never had a realistic chance when pitched against Barcelona & company, because we have so many problems at the club at the moment. Even if this rebuild does work out, it will be multiple seasons before it starts seeing true dividend and De Ligt has better offers on the table.
My biggest worry is that we get in the top 4 next season without spending much this summer. Notice how Jose was denied funding to push for success following the securing of Champions League football via a top 4 finish?
He was given money in his first summer (although Mkhitaryan and Bailly were signed behind his back). He was allowed to spend in his 2nd summer although they limited him by not flogging Darmian (trying to get more money) and haggling with regards to Perisic, only to sign Alexis 6 months later, a player who happens to be older than Perisic.
For those of you who will claim Jose Mourinho wanted Sanchez, am not too sure. Patrice Evra alluded to this in his interview with Gary Neville last month. Jose maybe what you call a cheque book manager but he doesnt usually sign galactico types. Look at Chelsea the first time:
2004: Drogba, Tiago, Carvallho, Ferreira, Cech, Kezman, Robben (I think the latter 3 were signed by Ranieri)
2005: Essien, Wright Philipps, Del Horno
2006: Ballack (free), Shevchenko, Boulahrouz, Ashley Cole
2007: Malouda, Pizarro (free), Ben Haim (free)
Only 1 player you'd call a real galactico and Jose hated him.

You forgot to type Tottenham.
That's not a city, just a riot district of a 2,000 year old dump. Unfortunately, Chelsea scarred London's dreadful CL record with a win. But Nottingham is still beating them 2:1 in European cups.

If de Ligt chooses PSG, he's not as smart as the press makes him out to be. PSG is a golden cage but a cage nonetheless. And not the best place to develop as an elite footballer. He'd do it for the money and just the money.

If he rejects us for Barsa, there's not much to say. Huge club, the ultimate for Dutch players; pays well, is guaranteed CL football year in and year out and the league is more competitive than Ligue 1.

If he chooses PSG he will be in a much better place than United next year. He will have CL football, walk the league, better manager, develop his game and still a step up than the Dutch league. He can sign a 4-5 years contract and in after it's done he can move at 23 before even hitting his peak.

Come next year we will still be restructuring and yet again no CL football.

Honestly not sure how moving there will develop his game. The rest is true though, depending on the contract he signs of course, PSG don’t really like letting players escape.

Those two don’t quite fit.

How does a centre half develop his game in a league his side walks? He faces stiffer competition at Ajax and he’ll do little defending at PSG.

I can understand many moves, but Mbappe and De Ligt to PSG just blow my mind, as a defender, De Ligt even more so.

As for ”he can move at 23”, well we’ve seen with Rabiot how PSG react when a player wants to leave.

If he goes to PSG I'll definitely think less of him. Moving to a league which is probably worse overall than the one he's currently in, he's hardly going to improve his game week on in.

That said, I still can't think of many reasons for him choosing us over them other than to play in the Premier League.

Well the French league is certainly a step up from the Dutch one. A physical league as well with some better players. It is not as bad as it made out to be. He'll be undisputed starter and gradually prove his worth. Moving directly to Barca at 19 could be risky.

What a bloody fool, I know the City itself is amazing but the league standard is not much better than Holland and he's never going to be allowed to leave unless he runs his contract down.

Even if he didn't sign for us there were far better options all round for the lad. I'd love to know how much City and PSG are paying these players.

For starters he will have 10 games most probably in CL - something he won't be able to do at a club that has no CL booked for next season(and most likely the season after).

Regardless of we like it or not PSG is more likely to be a factor in CL than us in the coming years, which makes the move more appealing for him.

Then the French league is certainly better step up than Holland, also the style there will suit his game and improve it.

He will be a starter no doubt and even if he starts slow he can regain composure. Moving to City and Barca won't allow him that and if he didn't adjust well in the beginning might lose his place.

United from the clubs cited looks the less appealing place as he will have little chance for silverware and no CL football along with mess at the back.

He can get that at Juve & Barça though, and possibly Ajax.

It’s not better, PSG regularly twat and walk over teams, they wrap up the league in March. That’s an awful league to play in, the equivalent of the Harlem Globe Trotters.

Not sure how a defender improves his game by barely defending for the majority of games.

Agreed.

Nah, can't see Ajax repeating that feat from this year. Especially losing De Jong, De ligt and maybe others.
Don't think Juve can afford him as a salary + transfer package. They also have to improve other areas of the team and CB is less likely to throw most of their money on. Juve also walk the league and isn't that much different to France.

Still there are more top teams than in Holland. Also the league is much more physical to Holland which will make the transition then to PL or La Liga much easier.

He will be surrounded by better players and, yes despite walking it around March, is still a lot better league than Holland.

As I said PSG is still a step up and especially for 19 years old CB it's better to develop gradually than lose his place at City or Barca.

Barca have Pique, Lenglet, Umtiti returning, Vermaelen. By no means his place is guaranteed there if he doesn't perform straight away.

Choosing the money move over a move to Barca is astonishing to me. If its true and he goes to PSG I will have lost respect for him as a player. Hes only 19 ffs. He should be playing for anyone but PSG

His main issue appears to be playing time. De Ligt wont be a regular starter with Barcelona.

The financial side of this is all handled by Raiola. PSG appears to be offering both starting position and money, so we'll see.

Our hope is that De Ligt finds the Premier League a more tempting contest than Ligue 1

Young players might be tinged with idealism and choose the bigger more historical club but agents won't be. His agent will be all up in his ear, Utd are down the list.

Oh dont buy into that rubbish. Any CB brought in for 65m+ will be playing week in week out and if that isn't enough of a reason to guarantee playing time the fact he's better than Lenglet and Umtiti is

Why cant barca guarantee him a starting spot.? If it's because they see him as Pique replacement then ok, I can see the similarities in there style but De Ligt has much more to his game than just a ball playing CB. Hes a great defender too.

As for Lenglet and Umtiti, De Ligt is a better player already at 19. Umtiti is rumoured to be wanted gone due to his knee problems, and Lenglet is just not as good as any of the others.

De Ligt starts for Juve, Barca, UTD, City, Liverpool or anyone else hes being linked too!

Barcelona won't play De ligt on the Left CB area - that's meant for left footed CB like Umtiti and lenglet.

De ligt would play with his right foot at RCB so is in direct competition with Pique.

Like I said rubbish. If they buy him he plays

That's just fan narrative. Liverpool beat Barca 4-0 with Origi, Shaqiri, Henderson and Milner. The major reason is 99 % Klopp, VVD isn't anything special. Klopp made Subotic look like the best CB in the world at some point.

Feels sorry for all the transfer muppets camped in this one. This is not going to end the way you want it . Sorry but this transfer muppet is camping else where for the summer.

Everyone would have second thoughts, if you would have to play under Valverde.
Yes because of "Mén in call club" and all that... no second thoughts needed just like how Neymar escaped them at the very first chance

While you're not wrong on Klopp, being salty about VVD is just silly, he clearly is a bit special especially physically.

Interesting that he says he doesn't know what "his heart" says. So maybe, just maybe he won't just end up at barca as I fear

No it's fact. If it were 99% Klopp they'd of been reaching UCL finals before VVD came in

Still confident we’re the best option for a young lad wanting a strong challenge in the coming seasons while playing with some of the best and against some of the beat week in week out. Not to mention a big pile of money to go with all that.

If he’s got any ambition, he’ll end up in the PL
