 He's not going to PSG. Mino is probably there to spend some of his agent fees on a nice suit for himself.

People underestimating the power of CL football. At least players came for Mourinho and his CV. Which player is going to come to united believing Ole is going to make a difference?

I also think we have up on him a long time ago.

Don't worry guys, Sport Witness will now unearth some vague mention of United and De Ligt in some gossip roundup, which will keep the hope (and clicks) alive.

He could be in Paris doing the bidding for Pogba, though.
I was thinking the same thing, would make sence, young, French, popular, they need some football celebrity to get them more fans, and will be able to afford his wages and give us 189m for him, and he will win trophy, just like he won with Juve.
If Railoa is in Paris for Ligt, and hegoes there, then, good night football as I once knew and loved, no really point to watch it anymore, 19 yrs old going to PSG for money, challenge.

Looking at PSG’s downfall last season though, the game against MUFC, it came down to comedy errors at the back. Signing De Ligt and De Gea could push them that bit closer to CL contenders.

De Jong was off to PSG even though he said Barca is his dream club, then in the last minute Barca came back with the biggest wage offer.

Young people will see the PSG club differently, they're exposed to a lot of positive marketing by the club and they also have Neymar and Mbappe.

I don't see Barca getting carried away with De Ligt like they did with De Jong. Maybe they can offer him an incentive when he's 21. Getting Raiola involved seems like he wanted to be on what he thinks he's worth which is similar to his friend De Jong. Being on half the money as Frenkie probably doesn't fly with him.

For De Ligt, if he signs a 5 year contract he best be prepared to stay there. I'd imagine they'll win a CL by then anyway but other clubs can't really bid for you unless you play really poorly and PSG want rid.

Would be a disappointing choice.

He is a very good young defender but last two nations league games showed that he isnt the finished product. He would learn and improve so much more in the premier league where even the bottom clubs have fairly good strikers. One mistake and it could be punished. When playing for PSG you dont even have to show up and you will still win the game and most likely also the league.

I guess in the ‘money vs oh so dreamy Barca’ argument, PSG has money plus league titles and the CL against us.

But I don’t see anything in the tweets to get worked up over. We already knew PSG was negotiating.

A mix of no Champions League and Ole as manager is probably a turn off for many players! I like Daniel James, looks a good player. But doubt it very much he will be anything but a decent player for us!
I think the best we can get under the circumstances is a Wilf Zaha! And he would cost a fortune!
I've watched De Ligt against Spurs and in the nation's league, didn't look like the beast he is portrayed on here anyway!

Will still be amazed if he actually goes to PSG after what he's said and the type of character he is. This smells of agent pressure to me.

Everyone would have second thoughts, if you would have to play under Valverde.

Looks like he's off to PSG. He'll get playing time and also rake more league trophies in the farmers league while also playing Champions League on a regular basis. And when the time comes, he'll make a switch to either Barca or Madrid. What a shame.... That's two players now that PSG have snatched from us and we could possibly lose De Gea to them as well.

CL football, first team football, league trophy every season, stable club with a clear plan (win the CL) is my guess.

Tuchel is also a good coach for someone coming from Ajax, perhaps aspiring to play for Barca or Pep one day.

Neymar, Mbappe, and Verrati all want to leave. Rabiot already gone.

I don't believe for a second he'll go there.
you need to understand the power of money. If city and psg want a player nowadays they will most likely get the player. At least we know the kid is a bit thick to chose psg over barcelona.

Im kinda salty he isnt coming here if the reports are true so i'll end it with "he was overrated anyway."

It’s quite disconcerting and difficult to root for many players at all these days.

Money has totally fecked football.
yeah, also the way they happily whip up a frenzy across Europe liking clubs posts on social media for shits n giggles. Just un necessary. The arrogance of 'go here first, then go barca in 3 years time'. King of makes you want them to fall

Don't they 'need' to sell anyway to comply with FFP
Yes, yes they do. And recoup a tremendous amount at that. All the talks about CL, there'll be no CL for them soon enough. They've been hitting that hornet's nest for a while thinking they're a honey badger.

Tell me what is so unrealistic regarding this pursuit? We are among a very, very select number of clubs that actually has a realistic chance of signing him. It's not like we're Everton ffs.
It's one of the biggest and richest clubs in the world going after a young talent. Just because there are offers from clubs who happen to be in a better moment it doesn't mean that the player will automatically reject us.
I'm sick of people who think we have no chance of signing him. You speak of Manchester United as if it's a trashing bin that only attracts mercenaries and decadent players. You think we should just roll over and die like cowards if the almighty Barcelona wants the same player as we do.
The main reason I want this guy to come now is to sow the mouths of those who belittle MUFC shut.
Nice speech. Now the reality check that this guy was never coming to us.

All of you getting your knickers in a twist. We're signing him.

Easy game, this:

If he chooses Barca - solid decision. No shame as it's another historic club and we're not in great shape at the moment.

If he chooses Juve - okay decision. He gets Champions League and a guaranteed Series title. Plus plays with Ronaldo.

If he chooses PSG - the kid's a greedy idiot with no ambition going to such a nothing club. Raiola is definitely making tons of money in this so feck him too. PSG still won't make it to a CL semi any time soon.

If he chooses United - bloody hell, that's the kind of character we need. Young, courageous and willing to shoulder some responsibility and the challenge of getting United back on top. Born leader. Has a chance to become an all time United great, Legend in the making. #nooneislaughing

I'll just quote my response for whichever option winds up being true.

Let's be honest, De Ligt is a long shot, and we have played a good hand. But the reality is that we are a team in the process of being ripped up and put back together piece by piece. We haven't got CL football next season, and we cannot offer the lifestyle of Paris or Barcelona. We need to focus on players that want to come here and play for us, not because we offered them the biggest salary, but because they believe in the project and want to contribute to putting us back on top. It is only when we have a successful winning team with the right mentality, that we can start touting the world's best, from a position of strength. When you are negotiating from a weak position, people will always take advantage of your desperation.

There are plenty central defenders out there who are better than our current ones, and we can get them in this transfer window. Spending 100m on one player is ridiculous and short sighted when you have just finished 6th. Nathan Ake and Alderwiereld would be a huge improvement to our squad. And they'd cost about 65m combined. Then we have Tuanzebe coming back from Villa. AWB would be a mammoth signing at right back, and Shaw will do for now. I think we can do some really good business this summer, if we forget about the Bale's and Rakitic's, who will bleed us dry, and get in someone like Maddison or Neves who will roll their sleeves up and give 100%.

It's a good move financially to shore up his bank account. He is still so young. Can easily move after a couple of years to another club. Can't fault him if this what he decides actually.

Meh, his salary is only one component. Think about the endorsement deals coming to United or Barca. Not sure PSG carries the same gravitas. And it's not like we're going to offer him peanuts.

The issue with that is PSG don’t sell players easily.

If PSG get de ligt and de gea they will win the CL at some stage over the next 4 years. They are picking up the top available players and paying whatever it takes to get them in. It’s basically what Ed described united as being to klopp, Disneyland. Our Disneyland has been like the set of a horror movie for the last 6 years though.

The PSG link doesnt make sense, how does he think he'll be able to escape them to go to Barca in a few years? He'll be locked in, at least we'll set him free!
