The only way to keep top players is to have success. Being British does not make a top player bound to an underperforming English club. There are exceptions yes, but usually no. Even Liverpools golden boy Gerard wanted out at some point. Heck, the very reason we were able to get the very best of the premier league was because with us players had the best chance of winning trophies.

So if we get De Ligt, Mbappe, Sancho or whoever and in 2/3 or so years we are in the same situation, then of course they should be trying to leave. It's the clubs job to build a team that can compete and as a result keep and attract the best players.

If Jennifer Lawrence offered me a 3 year relationship before going back to a rich, good looking movie star boyfriend, I wouldn't say no based on some sense of self respect.

 As funny as it this is, I'm one hundred percent of the same mindset. And I'm not any sort of masochist. Life's about enjoying the now not worrying so much about the future.

Who cares if he could help us get back to challenging ways. If he became so good and Barca wanted him we wouldn’t lose money I doubt.

Sticking with the Jennifer Lawrence analogy, dating her raises your own profile. So even if she moves on in a few years there'll be more suitors down the line.

Funny how we're talking about Manchester United as if it's as unattractive and poor a dating prospect as us caftards are. In fact, United is still an A-list celebrity. Like, say, Robert Downy Jr, all it will take is one or two good seasons to forget all the mugshots.

At this point De ligt and his camp are playing games. We can't waste a whole summer chasing after him. We need to put a deadline for end of his week for him and his people to either accept or reject our offer. There are other targets that we can focus on. Maguire for example, City might be interested in him so the sooner we start going after him the better.

Just can't see De Ligt will pick Man Utd over Barca, Juventus or City. He can learn a lot more tactically in Juventus and City, he can also earn as much in City as well. Barca being Barca has the best weather and also a playing style he can fit in seamlessly. I just don't see any reason why he will pick Man Utd over other options he has on hand. All the 3 teams mentioned are challenging for league and CL trophies every season too.

Playing in a team with CR7, Messi or KDB or a team with Martial & Rashford, which one will you pick?

On a serious note, it's obvious United is the worst choice on paper for him tactically/trophy wise.

There's every chance J Lawrence might love the under dog after 3 years rather than what she initially thought.

Jennifer lawrence is average though.

I think he is interested in working alongside the reputed J-Lingz in building up his brand profile, ‘MDLit*flame emoji*’ perhaps ?

The one that offers a starting place. De Ligt is captain of Ajax, he's not going to go to a club where he is relegated to the bench frequently.

These players are much less fanboys when they are already at this level. Messi and CR7 only have a few good seasons in them before their careers are sadly over. Finances absolutely do count, and City can't match us there.

In my view PSG looks like a likely destination if they match our financial offer and can promise first team regular football. Not so much because they have star players, but because they are always challenging for Europe, play in a good competetive league that he can continue to develop in, and have the finances to keep being strong.

Manchester United at this time can offer De Ligt a stupid high salary, Premier League starting XI football, and similiar circumstances that he came up in Ajax with - a team on the build. If a miracle does happen and he goes to Man United, Premier League matching and starting XI + money will be the deciding factor, in that order.

While PSG must be tempting, the French league is underwhelming for someone who wants to be a star of the game.

When the god of trophies invites you in you have to be an absolute idiot to say no.

I think we should take the gamble and go for De Ligt even with the uncertainty of him leaving in 4-5 years because I doubt Messi-less Barca will be as dominant and appealing then.

On a side note that's why we are after Ryan Fraser instead of other popular choice in the market. But even then we may not get him this summer because of the 40M quoted price.

So? We should also lower our ambitions?

Looks like you're paying 25m for Carrasco in installments.

Kroenke could be the worst owner in the league.

Im telling you this guy is 1000000% coming to us. Hear me out this is how its going down:

- Constant stories about him not deciding where to go and it will be after his holidays
- If he was that serious about Barca do you think they would still wait for him in a few weeks? No Chance.
- This is all his fat agents plan to get all the hype drummed up because he has agreed a deal with us.
- In return.. we will allow pogba to go madrid and we will get some money and a player or two in the deal. Madrid cant afford him with the money they have shelled out already. Only way we let him leave is if we get a player or two our way. I can see a 2 year Bale loan deal where we just pay half his wages with Madrid (the other half Madrid use for pogbas salary & also a fringe player (maybe odegaard).

So all in all heres my prediction.

We get De Ligt with some insane marketing like we did with pogba. Pogba goes to madrid and we get (odegaard & bale).

Our summer will then look like this (if rumours are to be believed)

Ins
----

James
Bale
De Ligt
AWB
Odegaard
Bruno Fernandez
Rice/Raboit

Out
----

De Gea (promote Henderson/Romero & give them the season)
Pogba
Lukaku
Mata
Herrera
Valancia

Henderson
AWB De Ligt Lindelof Shaw
Matic Bruno Raboit
Rashford Bale Martial

...Thats my guess

Didn't Arsenal want Martial 12 months ago? Strange for you to use him in a derogatory sense

As Sanchez showed throw enough money at someone and they can turn down the more obvious destinations. Alas De Ligt doesn't strike me as that type but then he has got into bed with Raiola so who knows

I will conclude from the last few pages of this thread that the deal is on because of Jennifer Lawrence.

At this point I`m not certain if he is that good or if everyone is riding the hype train. Raiola certainly knows how to handle such situations.

I'm in, I'm invested, I am ready to buy a de Ligt shirt.

Just to it, i wrote on Facebook a month ago that it's going to happen.
I'm ITK. In the kitchen

But what if you fall in love with J-Law and get emotionally attached? What if, as the end of those three years loom, you grow anxious knowing that this will inevitably end in heart-break and you ultimately break down in a fiery cesspit of despair. The three years passing, and just as you thought you and her were beginning to build something special, she does what she said she'd do all along and leaves you for another, and you're left there, alone, after three years spent with the most wonderful woman in the world, you have to rebuild, yet again, from the ground up, you have to try find another woman, but you've already spent three years with J-Law, three damn years building a strong relationship, laying the groundwork only for it to be ripped apart from you by that lead singer cnut from Coldplay or whoever. You now wonder to yourself if it was really, truly worth it as you sit there depressed curled in a ball sprawled across your own feces with no hope left in the world. And what did you get out of it anyway? She didn't give you the best years of her life, no, she used to as a tool to mature before f*cking off to ColdPlay dude in the prime of her life and being an even better girlfriend to him.

Her boyfriend also paid you 60 million euros, you will be fine.

He’s a good prospect but I don’t get why fans get so caught up with a kid who has played a couple of good seasons of football. There are no guarantees with players and that’s especially true for players as young as him and, with all due respect, playing in a weak league. We should move on to the next best option unless we are clear favorites to sign him. Once he decides to go to Barca or whatever, we’ll end up fighting for next best player with PSG, Juve etc.

We are probably the only team where he'll have literally zero competition for his place. Anywhere else, there are strong players that he has to compete with. It does somehow feel like he's gonna choose us based on his comments.

In the mean time, I hope we are already focusing on a back up if this doesn't work out. Koulibaly and Maguire are too pricy. I have no clue about Ruben Diaz. Then we have Alderweireld who is a cheap option.

I really think that De Ligt won't consider going to PSG or Juventus. He would pick Man utd or Barcelona because when he was younger, man utd were one of the biggest clubs out there competing in all fronts. If you are 30 years old and choosing which club then Juventus would enter the equation. The Dutch have a different culture than South American or generally Spanish speaking players in looking for highest pay check or wanting to move to La Liga as their ultimate dream. They don't really see Italian league or French league as something big in that respect. They grew up with PL ,la Liga and the bundesliga.

What I am trying to say is that his motivations are not so money based that he would choose Juventus or PSG because I really think the PL and La Liga are his focus. I get this from his interviews but also his social media where he liked picture above one of the ex man utd players posting a picture of the CL celebrations from 2008. This is not taking into account the fact he would wants more playing time which he wouldn't really get playing for those teams mentioned.

We arent even in the picture according to all the reliable journos. Its between PSG, Juve and Barca.

And again, eh:

because they are always challenging for Europe

Moving to PSG would show a huge lack of ambition.

It wouldn't surprise me one bit if he came here and he's the sort of signing that would make Pogba stay. Equally we're not the most appealing destination right now, but the same could be said of Barcelona. Messi only has a handful of seasons left and he is their SAF and CR7 all rolled into one. When he goes it will make for spectacular viewing and I wouldn't want to be there as one of the game's top prospects when it happens.

In a strange mix of the plot of passengers and the real life "fappening" pictures, you could accumulate quite a highlights reel over the space of 3 years.

I'd sign all the necessary paperwork to ensure the videos were for personal use only and not to be distributed.

Any future partner wouldn't have a problem I'm sure as many couples have the "free pass" conversation about a celebrity.

Grab joy when and where you can, life is too short to deny yourself opportunities like this when they come along.
