Huh?18 days until announcement![]()
What you basing this on?Stay strong muppets. This is on![]()
He's never had a hard on for defenders. While they will need to replace him eventually I'd be surprised if it's now, especially with Hazard or Eriksen possibly this summer. As others have mentioned Militao is coming so they'll be fine another few years. It's quite possible. He's now 33 and with De Ligt being the latest must-have star, it would be typical of Florentino to go for him and if Madrid do go for him, can't see De Ligt turning the opportunity down: Champions League at a huge club on offer, huge wages (more than Barca) and probably has been told he will replace Ramos which would tickle anyone's ego.
You that guy that put his neck on the line two years ago about Griezmann aren't you? I believed you back then actually, I think you know something don't you?????!!!!Stay strong muppets. This is on![]()
Aside James I wasn't aware that these guys were all pretty much certainties? Perhaps I've not been keeping up.Awb, Rice, Longstaff, James have yet to be announced yet so gives me some false hope that De ligt hasn't been revealed yet for a more adequate time and place![]()
It's not that they are certainties - we are being linked to them and yet not signed anybody. If we had signed say 2 of these players now, I'd have less hope of then going to buy de ligt.Aside James I wasn't aware that these guys were all pretty much certainties? Perhaps I've not been keeping up.
This is true.Whilst some people may not be happy about his wages if he does move here -
De ligt becomes our best defender almost instantly - I can't see how people doubt this.

Sanchez for me was coming in to a place we were already strong at - atleast in terms of views of the whole squad. We needed a RW more than a LW.This is true.
But then are we not making the same mistake as for many of our other players?
When Sanchez was signed, he was made the top earner, under the assumption that he would be our top attacker. A Galactico, by all accounts. Unfortunately, he turned out to be a complete dudd and now we are stuck paying him big money.
With De Ligt, what if he doesn't turn out to be as good as you think? Surely this would become Sanchez, all over again.
That would be the department of wishful thinking doing that. As for De Ligt, I suspect that this will end up as the latest summer wankfest with everyone and his brother speculating before he signs for someone else.Announced?
They haven't signed for us....why would they be announced?
Jesus Christ how difficult it is to comprehend what I'm asking? I'm not cherry picking anything, I specifically said that I was referring to this very moment, not yesterday, not last season, not the last decade.By present you mean the season gone by only because that is cherry picking to suit your narrative. Real won three CLs on the bounce, while Barca have won La Liga for 2 seasons in a row. So yeah, they are still better than Pool by a mile.
So if god forbid cardiff somehow beat them they're better than liverpool? Or levante better than madrid?Jesus Christ how difficult it is to comprehend what I'm asking? Real Madrid struggled the whole season and Barcelona got schooled by Liverpool in their most recent face-off.
Liverpool is better than Barcelona and Real at this very moment, and that's all I'm claiming. Close your eyes if you want, but Liverpool and Manchester City are arguably the best teams in the world right now.
On what frickin ground are Liverpool one of the two best teams in the world now? Because they reached CL final? You can choose to believe that all you want, does not mean all will need to suck up to them. They had a very good season, but that does not mean they are better than Barca/Madrid. If that was the case, then a team would only be judged based on the last match it played. If all it takes is one season, then Leicester were also the best team in the world at one moment in time based on how you judge teams.Jesus Christ how difficult it is to comprehend what I'm asking? Or Watford being better than Pool as they reached the finals of the FA cup while Pool didn't even make the QFs.So if god forbid cardiff somehow beat them they're better than liverpool? Or levante better than madrid?
If people are willing to call Man City the best in the world, Liverpool almost definitely have a good case as well.On what frickin ground are Liverpool one of the two best teams in the world now? We also beat PSG so surely we must be better than them by that immense logic of yours.
Completely off-topic but I when I remember how much stick Nani received from some MU supporters it's just unbelievable. Guess we were really spoiled back then eh?Nani was/is a terrific footballer, my tagline was a banter from mods (Nani fans) at the time I dared to say Valencia is a good player (around 2011).

Exactly. Somehow people fail to see that it's not a flukey CL final. It's deserved back to back CL finals coupled with 97 points in the Premier League, losing the title by a point. There's nothing that indicates Barcelona or Real are better than Liverpool at this very moment. Still I'm the one accused of cherry picking. If people are willing to call Man City the best in the world, Liverpool almost definitely have a good case as well.
It's some dickhead 15 year old in his bedroom. So about that amount of reliable
Bottom tier.
Back to back CL finalists, 97 points in the EPL - that’s a very consistent run of very good form. You can argue whether they are number 2, or not, but they are right up there - and light years ahead of us. Makes me puke admitting it.On what frickin ground are Liverpool one of the two best teams in the world now? Because they reached CL final? Nah, they are just same old Liverpool.Like it or not, I think right now, Liverpool are definitely among the best 2 or 3 teams in the world.
Yep, outrageous what they're doing without a great midfield. Probably the reason they don't seem to be in for De Ligt.Like it or not, I think right now, Liverpool are definitely among the best 2 or 3 teams in the world.

They lost 3 nil it doesnt tell a storyExactly. Somehow people fail to see that it's not a flukey CL final. Also, Liverpool didn't get a fluke victory against Barcelona. They lost the first leg with a score that didn't tell the story of the game, and in the second leg it was very clear what team was better.
This does not compare in any way to our victory against PSG, or occasional victories of small teams over big on the league. Your analogies are not standing on firm ground.
If hopefully they lost the final all will be forgotten in a few year.Like it or not, I think right now, Liverpool are definitely among the best 2 or 3 teams in the world.
Real weren’t even the best side in Madrid last season! They might be ahead of us but they're nowhere near Real or Barca
Even so, 4-0 in the second leg (the one that counts) was a demonstration of superiority. 180 minutes of Champions League football is as good a criteria as any. And Liverpool emerged not only as the victor, but as a team one notch above the opponent. That's my take anyway. They lost 3 nil it doesnt tell a story
They won 4 nil they're the better team
Ok.
Barcelona won 3 is abit flukish, but liverpool scoring 4 nil was also fluekish. You cant have it bothways my friend
Don't bother. Some fans don't have neutral glasses as a way of showing their non stop love for United.Even so, 4-0 in the second leg (the one that counts) was a demonstration of superiority. 180 minutes of Champions League football is as good a criteria as any. Real will certainly improve over their last season. Barcelona, I'm not sure, and they will have to improve because right now they are between top 3-5 in the world imho, but no way they are the best club in the world with their current squad. If I was wrong they wouldn't be on the verge of sacking their manager. And if Messi gets injured or starts to decline their troubles will be endless.
Still, this is a de Ligt thread and I think I have done more than my share to derail it.
The whole point of this debate is trying to determine if Barcelona is that much irresistible for players in the current atmosphere, that's what matters. MUFC got a lot of problems but Barcelona also has worries to address, next manager included.
From MdL's perspective, there are pros and cons in both Barcelona and Manchester United. Main con in MUFC is no UCL, but that can be a season-only thing if we get our stuff together. What I'm strongly against is the notion that signing for Barcelona over MUFC is a no brainer. It is not.
