I doubt a 19 year old is going to be that bothered about not being in the CL for just one season.

He either gets us back on top, competing in the PL & UCL or he just ends up moving to another club when or if that fails.

As @Sterling Archer said - whether he moves to us or not; he seems to have this hard working captains personality & he himself talks about the chances to grow and improve once he does move.

Whilst true he could do that anywhere, he might potentially see the chance to settle in this year with United and improve step by step; much like the club itself need to do to reach our ambitions.

Ajax had a wonderful team but de ligt grew as the captain of that team to have them competing in the CL semi's - arguably growing at the same tempo as the club itself did. I can see why a player like that may want something like United to grow whilst he himself grows in to the best of his ability.

As I said before - I don't see de ligt as a character that holds de Jong hand and goes to Barcelona with his best mate, his Ajax/Cryuff DNA type that always ends up at Barcelona - it feels kind of like the easy way out or the easy thing to do for someone who looks like a generational talent or even better possibly whilst having the ability to truly stand out. This also goes in line with him talking about the PL being the league he would like to go to possibly because of the sheer competitiveness of it. De Ligt will just go and be the next Koeman or whoever at Barcelona in my opinion & I wonder if that makes him like that or dislike it.

Utd need to make sure they have another CB in the pipeline if their top target goes elsewhere

Anyone seen the instagram post by a Dutch-Moroccan comedian , Najib Am Hali? He took a photo with De Ligt and added this caption:

"New launch @lifeafterfootballofficial with on the cover @mdeligt_good luck against #englandand have fun at your next club @afcajax @xplctstudios"

Hope that it does not mean he is going to Spain....
Would have said 'Good luck in the Semi and have fun at your next club' instead if He just wanted to wish a good luck, why bringing up England I wonder... unless if England has something to do with something of importance. Hmmm its a hint!

He means : 'Good luck against your next teammates and have fun with them at your next (english) club!'

Also De Light has said Rashford is his toughest opponent.

He also never praised Barca that much despite being linked to them for months. If He wants the move He would have hinted it.

Coincidence? nope.

Done dealio.

What's the odd on Rashford netting a hattrick against Netherlands and make De Ligt prefer joining Manchester United to not having to fight Rashford anymore?

What exactly makes it a Spain bound comment?

hmm there is a spanish flag emoticon at the end of the message.

Well that was fun while it lasted, Simon Stone was right, it seems we were being used. On to the Maguire thread.

Don't give up! Could just be more wumming on De Ligt or the comedian's part, to drum up more interest before the transfer.

Doesn't surprise me that he put a spanish flag at the end of that post. I think that is just him giving his own views on where De Ligt should go.

He can choose anywhere he wants, so I don’t think he will join us. I just don’t see it, there’s nothing here would attract him to fancy a move.

- club heading to downhill, in big transition
- no attractive football style
- no CL football
- not trophies contender
- 30 pts gap behind City/Liverpool, we won’t close this huge gap even we manage to sign peak Beckenbauer or Baresi.
- fans are toxic, squad are toxic

Let’s face it, the only thing we can attract him to come, is by overpay him, and hope money would do the talking.

Huge wages
Global exposure
Chance to be part of the rebuild
Guaranteed starter
Likely to be captain in the near future
He has an affinity with English football
Playing in the best league in the world

It's funny how our fans are ready to give up as soon as the slightest link to Barca comes up. Have more faith guys. It's not done until I see him in a Barca kit.

Just had a thought, is the spanish transfer window open yet? I know England opened early again this year.

The club isn't heading downhill, one bad season doesn't define the trajectory of the club.
We're still in with a shout for all competitions we enter, no reason we can't win something next season.
Fans and expectations are the main issue, especially with this current squad being so misbalanced.

The opening of transfer window has no bearing on deals being agreed and announced. You can only register a player during the transfer window but you can sign them any time.

It’s funny to see lots of people saying part of/core of the rebuild is an advantage for us to sign De Ligt. This is absolutely wrong.

I just want this thing wrapped up, one way or another so we can move on to the Wan-Bissaka and Sancho thread.

The problem is that Koulibaly is not worth anywhere near what’s being quoted

I don’t really get your logic. I think DeLigt would be a much better fit for united and he’d have a better resale value if it doesn’t work out.
Don't get me wrong. I'd be over the moon if we sign De Ligt. As I said in my previous post I think he is a generational talent only that I have a little tiny reservation about this because he is still very young and ours is not a settled team yet.

I hope we sign him and I hope I am very wrong.

Course it isn't. Being a cornerstone of a rebuild and having a team, in part, rebuilt around you, can very attractive. Silly to think otherwise.

Are we realistically going to sign Sancho though?

Seems like another wild goose chase to me and hes already put me off with his attitude of only signing once we've sorted ourselves out. Don't need another player whose ego is bigger than his talent.
