Hope I'm wrong, but looks like he's your typical failed potential journeyman. I'd expect him to be phased out gradually once Yoro gets eased in as a starter.

Diving in on Gakpo is the type of thing people overlook in a 19 YO CB, they think they will mature and be steadier, De Ligt has never really stopped that type of play.

1st goal he's trying to make up for Ugarte's error and dives in trying to block a cross. I think most defenders do that there.

His hand should not be in that position though, it's not unfortunate he's just stupid.
 
For the amount we're paying him, you'd expect him to be better than "okay" or "not the worst of our problems"
 
I thought he was great in the first half. He made two errors that just happened to be two huge, crucial ones that led to goals. A little bit more unfortunate with the second one (the handball), but he should definitely have been more intelligent with the first.

Players hands constantly end up in places they "shouldn't be" when moving or adjusting. Punching the ball is stupid, this wasn't.
 
He doesn't look a good buy at the moment, far too mistake ridden, very rash at times and his passing is shaky

He was just getting himself set. Players don't walk like penguins with their hands below their waist all the time.
 
Slow. Average passing. Bad to mark his man.
But you already know. He failed in Turin and in Munich. I don't know why you bought him.

To be fair, most of us haven't seen him make said mistakes before (I don't think he has at United).
 
He's not the biggest problem, and he'll probably end up being a decent squad player for us, but I think we all hoped someone with his reputation in the game would not just come in and improve us but be a leader.

Alas.
 
Weird thing to say considering he had a role in both their goals but he did a lot of good stuff too, was impressed by some of his tackles and passing. The three centre backs did pretty well today.
 
He's a great player and I'm happy we got him.

But he does give away too many penalties, it's probably his main weakness. Was also a problem at Bayern.
 
He had a pretty decent game I thought bar the two critical errors. I have a concern that he’s a bit too easy to beat at times in these wider positions. The handball is just one of those freaks when he happens to move his arm at exactly the wrong time - never going to be anything other than a penalty sadly though.

Probably loses his place to Yoro who I thought looked really good when he came on.

there was a stretch at Juve were pundits actively started laughing at him and saying he should stop bring a goalkeeper.

He also had a few howlers for our national team.
 
I mean made 2 bad decisions for sure, but otherwise it was pretty good I felt. Not an easy game to be back there for but wasn't complete trash like some made seem
 
The penalty I put down mostly to a coincidence. Can happen to all defenders. The bigger mistake was going to ground when Gakpo dummied him.

Still think he's a decent defender overall.
 
Good to see some reasonable posts in here, he cost us the game without playing too badly. Thought he played quite well, but yes both goals are fully on him, which is disappointing.

I don't think he works as a wide defender, would even trust Maguire more in that role.
 
Frustrating mistakes today but I'm not too worried about De Ligt overall. He's generally pretty consistent in a poor side.
 
It’s not difficult to see why both Bayern & Juve had no issues with letting him go. No matter how much people tried to convince themselves it was about money. If he was truly top class both clubs would have done everything to keep him.

Not saying he’s a bad player. He’s just not that good. Maguire is currently better.

He's still been our best CB this season. Though that bar is shockingly low. I don't think he's going to be great but he should be a decent enough player for us.
 
Unlucky.

It's been a season of brain farts for United as a squad...but I feel today he was just very unlucky.

He was unlucky with the penalty. Very unlucky.

Made a mistake by tackling like this. Gakpo was in a tight angle, should’ve just closed him up.

Other than that, he wasn’t bad today. But he’ll be remembered to be responsible for both goals today. But for me, it’s not something that would make us write him off. Nope
 
Gakpo does him like a kipper on the first goal. Its so dumb, there's very little danger if he just stays on his feet and of course Gakpo wants to come in on his right foot.

The handball is again dumb. Theres no reason to have his hand up in the air like that. The only possible reason is to shield his face, but its a cross and a header. Nobody should be so cowardly that they're blocking their face from a header

I'm not sure de Ligt has defender's instincts to be honest. Far too often he looks like a fish out of water
