Not that I should care what clowns like Samuel Luckhurst thing, but I'm curious to know what he has against De ligt. Gave him a 5 for yesterday's game, a game in which we kept a clean sheet.

You are spot on. If some can’t see that then they are really awful at judging the players as it’s very obvious he’s an excellent CB.

Gave Mainoo a 6 and De Ligt a 5. I love Mainoo but he was poor whereas De Ligt was great.

As an aside it shows how ridiculous rating players out of 10 is, it should just be the Roy Keane scale of did they do their job (Yes/No).
 
He's 25. Find it amazing. Feel like he's been playing at the highest level for 10 years. Amazing that Bayern let him go.

Him and Maz both. Now, i am not saying that they are world class players or something but they are top quality players. Strange decision by Bayern to let them go for that fee.
 
MotM for us, though Maguire was excellent as well when he was on the pitch. A much better and more aggressive performance.
 
I really do rate him but I also can’t help but this he’s going to have a really poor shelf life.

If we get 250 games out of him I’ll be very pleased.
 
He's just a very good defender, not that far away from Mazraoui in terms of his consistency to be honest.

Yep, was thinking exactly the same thing. Hamstring injury incoming and at least 2 months out.

A bit more mobile than Maguire, not as good on the ball or as aerially dominant.

Good player, solid signing for the price but can't be the best CB at the club if you want to challenge for the PL.

A main difference is that de Ligt his weakness is that he is not super mobile or has fantastic acceleration but Maguire his weakness is that he is immovable and has no acceleration at all.
 
The idea of buying new players is to upgrade on what you have. I don't mind De Ligt but he's not an upgrade on any defender we have.
 
I thought he would be better than this. Maguire CCB has to be the way forward. I'm afraid this might not turn out to be an objectively good signing long-term, even for just 38m.
 
Shocking at both passing and ball carrying. Good in the air though. Basically Harry Maguire but with worse passing.

I really like de Ligt's mental profile from what I've seen so far. Interviews, training footage, behavior on the pitch, etc.

But at this point in time I don't see how Maguire isn't a clear upgrade on him. Progressive passes, passing range, circulating possession, carrying the ball, aerial dominance, de Ligt is just not on his level.
 
Never a good look when a player is walking with the ball on multiple occasions, especially when you're losing or drawing.
 
He’s kind of what I expected, you can see why Bayern were willing to sell. It’s not that he’s really bad, he’s ok for the most part but he’s nothing special and he’s another player that is quite pedestrian
 
De Ligt's lack of ambition in possession is genuinely troubling. I didn't expect we would be getting the kid who picked up the ball and drove through the lines from Ajax. But I thought he'd at least have the cojones to hit a switch pass to a wing back in space. On the ball, right now, he offers less than Maguire. And his 1v1 defending is not really warranting being the last line of defence. Worrying. You could see it working in a back two next to someone sweeping up behind him jumping in. But in this set up..?
 
Worried about this signing. Lack of composure when under pressure. He usually just belts or heads it anywhere.
 
He's passing range is quite limited compared to Maguire. That switch pass just isn't in his locker and that's going to be the his undoing.
