Mourinho has his reasons for not fancying him but he's a million times better than Rojo.
He's surely got to get on ahead of Rojo for God's sake! His fascination with Rojo in these matches is just as bad as his fascination with Fellaini. Mind boggling, IMO

He's the one player I actually rate Rojo above, Darmian is the worst player in our squad in my eyes.
Well Rojo at least has pace, power and aggression. Darmian has none of this and it's what Mourinho rates, the rest can be somewhat learnt or polished.I can see why is TFM getting his chance as RB despite it being his worst position..

Damian was an excellent wing back for Italy before signing and did well in a back three for Torino.
He can get forward; I've seen him do it. He played okay against Feyenoord. Martial should have scored from his cut back.
Darmian could become a good player for us if given the opportunity. Rojo is terrible. He's not a centre back and he doesn't show the same willingness to get forward that he has shown for the national team. He has zero intelligence and relies on pure physicality.
Darmian got torn apart against Alexis and everyone then dropped him like a sack of spuds. Shit happens.
To be fair before and after that Arsenal game bar his first few matches he was awful. Terrible going forward and average defensively.
We actually could have played a sack of spuds at RB and it wouldn't have made much difference, it would have been about as mobile as Matteo.
If we flog him in January I hope we dip in for a RB to scratch one off before the summer.

Don't really think a RB that is better than Valencia will be available in January to be honest. If Valencia keeps up his form, Fosu Mensah is good enough to serve as deputy until at least the summer.
I don't think he's terrible defensively. Watch him sign for Juventus and excel in a more familiar system.
Italian defending is very different. There are a lot more tactical fouls and they basically try to rip the attacker's shirt when defending set-pieces (Smalling would be in Heaven).
He started off very well and then had two nightmares against PSV and Arsenal. But what do you expect from a new signing entering a completely new environment? He needed time to settle. Eva was shocking when he first arrived. It took him almost a year to fend off Heinze. Darmian could have a good career here.
He will be sold though.
Quite a number of Serie A team looking for his service. A loan deal in January would be a good option for him.
I wasn't thinking of an immediate replacement, more a RB that can come in and understudy Valencia in the second half of the season and get ready for next season as he gets used to the league.
I understand he's your favourite player or whatnot but Darmian is off possibly this winter, he has no future here as he has no qualities for Manchester United.. And it's not about being skinned in one game by Alexis, he's showed he has zero pace and can't simply cope with the tempo and power in premier league in numerous games.. he had okay start but then showed he's mentally weak to bounce back after some shocking games and I am not even discussing his Rooney-esque first touch and next to zero contribution in attack...
He might have been good in Italy but that league is a joke... Sparta fecking Prague just won agains Inter Milano.. I also wonder if some of people here have a life, watching all games in different leagues, scouting all those players.. so I am judging him from what I've seen of him here... some players can't just step up to EPL - Kagawa, Depay etc...
As for Rojo, he's headless chicken but for the reason I wrote in my previous comment I can see why Jose gives him game time before Darmian... Next year hopefully with Bojack as backup..

Also, the classic Serie A is a joke retort. Juventus and Napoli are two very good outfits and Fiorentina won 5-1 the other night.
As for Inter, maybe they would rather focus on their domestic campaign. Banega, Miranda, Perišić and Icardi are all good enough to play for any of the big teams in England. It's not like English teams have been losing in The Europa League down the years. Oh wait. United and Liverpool have been dicked by the likes of Bilbao and Zenit in recent years. Maybe if English teams and fans didn't think they were too good for it, they would stop being shown up on the regular. Chelsea and Liverpool showed the tournament some respect and reached the final. It's still a European trophy, which this club doesn't have too many of compared to the other European Heavyweights. I want to win it. 4th place isn't exactly guaranteed this season.
Different players thrive in different environments. Some of our players would be lost in other leagues.
For us he has ranged from average to awful defensively for the most part. How he may fare in the future for another team in a less intense league is irrelevant to United.
Taking time to settle in and find form is normal for a lot of players coming to the PL. What i expect or would at least appreciate though is that he at least showed a bit more effort while trying to find form. Last year he often looked uninterested, totally unwilling to help the team attack camping out in his own half most of the time. And of course repeatedly going off injured every time he got the slightest knock. A player who i believe didn't miss a game for 3-4 years suddenly becomes injury prone, unfortunate that.
I said before the season started if Jose plays him i hope he improves and becomes a good player for us. But it looks like Mourinho just doesn't fancy him, to the point where even Young is preferred at RB. In that case Ciao Matteo, very few will miss you.

He plays well for Italy, though. I think the common perception in Italy is that he just isn't suited to this league. I still think he's rated over there.

I have a very hard time trying to wrap my head around the idea of Darmian being a wing back. In my mind i've always thought the role of wing back to be like a full back but with less defensive responsibilities and who attacks a lot more, provides width and needs to have really good stamina to get up and down the pitch.
None of that sounds like the player i've been watching for the last 18 months. Now i am lead to believe he actually did play that position in Italy which is fair enough. But going off what i've seen at United he has piss poor stamina, no real attacking instincts and is crap crosser of the ball, honestly i could think of few fullbacks less suited to playing as a wing back than Darmian in my opinion. Looks more like a converted centre back to me.
When I say wingback, I don't mean like Roberto Carlos or anything. He isn't good enough going forward for that. Just that in certain tactical systems he seems to be more at home playing out wide with three CBs behind him.
Yeah fair enough mate, they must play a less attacking variation of the position in Italy that i have yet to see. You're right he would definitely be more comfortable with 3 defenders behind him, could probably do with a winger or two in front of him also if you are looking for any sort of attacking threat down his side.
I think he'd be more comfortable with another RB beside him to do his job as well. Clearly, why he hasn't been at his best here.
What happened? I remember his first few games thinking he'd own the spot. Honestly ever since the Moyes season when Evra and Rafael lost form I've had this theory that our fullbacks have been a major cause of our downfall. We haven't had solid fullbacks that have owned the position since. This year there's Valencia and Shaw if he can cement his place so there is hope

I was excited when he came. An Italian defender always makes sense but he just hasn't adapted so well did he? If he wants to fight for his starting place i don't think they should sell him. If he wants to go the door should be open tough.

I wanted Darmian to have a chance, let him play and fight for his spot.
If he does leave in January, Mou seems pretty keen on Fabinho but I'm not sure if he would leave Monaco with them being in the CL and challenging for Ligue 1 this season.

Just nowhere near good enough to start for us and should head back to Italy to get his place back in the national team back. Jose is a superb judge of defender (him picking out Bailly again proves this) and he's not wrong with this one IMO.
