I couldn't be botherd to look through the twentysomething pages posted in this thread since I last checked, so maybe someone has already answered this, but someone was a little worried that he would struggle to settle with no italian speakers in our team. Spanish and italian are quite similar (lexical similarity 85%), and we have a truckload of spanish speakers in our team, so I doubt that will be a major issue.

French and Italian have 89% similarity, while I can see the similarities, I can't understand Italians, Spanish is a lot easier.

Doesn't matter if he doesn't understand English. It's the philosophy that he needs to grasp :)

Torino president Urbana Cairo has refused to confirm that Matteo Darmian's move to Manchester United has concluded and insists that the player still has some way to go before he can be announced at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils were reported to be concluding a deal for the right-back, making him their second signing of the summer after Memphis Depay, who they signed from PSV Eindoven in May.

The defender is believed to be close to a €20m (£14m, $22m) deal to Manchester, but Cairo insists that he will only let the move go through if all details are finalised with the club and player before the transfer.

"I'm very fond of Darmian. Matteo is a very important player for us. He's essential and well liked," the Torino president told La7,as quoted by Goal.

"Manchester United are a great club but there's still nothing done regarding his sale.

"Until there is something definite, I'd prefer not to speak about it officially."

Darmian is likely to replace Antonio Valencia at right-back who will be deployed on his favoured position in the wings next season.

A bit off topic, but anyone know when our tour squad is announced?

Im guessing any potential signings will need to be done by then so they can play on it?

Yesterday's news mate

Fans on Serie A forums (especially juve) seem to be of the opinion that he is amazing. Also, reason they didn't go for him is because Torino would not want to sell to them and would make things very difficult.

1 thing I like about his YouTube videos are the way he regularly intercepts, then charges forward at full steam leading a counter attack. That pace and energy really could help us break teams down quickly.

Yes, it's not always a connection between lexical similarty and actually understanding each other, but studies has shown that if an italian and a spaniard speak their native language to each other, they will both understand about 75-80% of what the other one is saying.

This better not be true! :nervous:

I like Tony - he's been a great servant to the club, but he hasnt been great the past couple of years tbh, but he put in a decent shift last season for us at RB & we gotta respect that.

We might see a different Tony next season though - he got the screws/pins & plates removed from his ankle & is in full pre-season training, so he might feel a bit more liberated now..
