Nah, that isn't visible body fat. He's in good shape, and the fat discussion is as much mythical as it is tedious.

There clearly is bodyfat on his lower abs, but this conversation needs to end now. I don't want to have to tell my eventual kids I once stayed up after midnight discussing the body fat on Luke Shaw's lower abs

If you look at Rooney when he was 20-21 he was pretty bulky in comparison to most footballers. Yet he had a decent enough career?

Does Di Maria speak any Italian? Might be a remote chance....

... Googled it and there's definitely a fat something on his lower abs... :nono:

I'm saying nothing about his ability as a footballer. I actually think he's very good and will be a mainstay for the next decade. I'm just pointing out that he carries a bit more fat than the average footballer, something which the staff at United seemed to agree with around the time that photo was taken

So does Chiharito.

Thought I had seen enough adult photos googling Luke Shaw topless, but no, it gets worse. Googling Lionel Messi topless actually turned out to be a slightly bigger mistake.

Note to self; Never google a mans name followed by topless.

I don't believe this either.
Schneiderlin was a done deal 2 weeks ago.

The sources should be fined for telling lies.

I really wish I was as fat as Shaw but, really Shaw's body fat becomes even less of an issue because he quicker than everyone. Oh and Darmian he is the best we can do in this market and I think it will happen.

Koeman said to BBC that United made a bid a few weeks ago, which was rejected and that we hadn't followed it up with a new bid. Can't really blame the sources in that incidence since there's clearly something to it.

Let's hope it won't take another 2 weeks for us to resolve this 2m difference.

Throughout his career Louis van Gaal has reiterated his desire to have two good players that fit his profile per position, he likes competition for places. Darmian makes sense considering the price and Rafael's injury record.

You cannot have 2 equally good players for a position. That is when issues start creeping up. LVG surely knows who he wants as his #1 RB. If he was fine with Valencia there, he would have either promoted from within or bought someone who would have been happy with sub appearances or being a backup to Valencia. You don't buy and Italian international to rotate with Valencia.

He is happy with Valencia but you obviously need more than 1 competent player per position. Look at Chelsea. They had azpilicueta and Luis at LB. Similarly we have multiple LBs but only one competent RB. Rafael isn't reliable to be fit when called upon and McNair is just starting out. Neither Jones nor smalling are competent to play RB for a top side. So darmian and Valencia. Who is #1 would be based on who performs better in the training. LvG doesn't care if you are a superstar . If he likes them he will play them.

Also, really good value given Darmian's football CV - a full international, nearly 200 career club appearances, a good age (25).

I don't disagree with that, but LVG has claimed that McNair could be the future RB for us and he has even played him there ahead of Rafael. So if he feels Valencia is good enough for us, he could easily promote McNair as a regular backup to Valencia. We don't need someone like Darmian for that. We have been actively scouting for a first choice RB. All the names we have been linked with are first choice RBs for their respective teams and are established in that position. This clearly shows we are looking for an upgrade on Valencia.

problem is McNair is backup CB as well. So if we promote McNair as our second RB we may very well end up in a position where we are short on RB and CB. Similar to how Calum chambers was seen as second choice RB and CB but an injury to both debuchy and koscielny meant Monreal an LB had to play in CB. Even for us blind rojo Jones and Carrick were injured at the same time. So we had to play Herrera and McNair.

I think he said that after we beat Preston or whoever it was at home, I forget. The next game we played against a premier league team he showed his limitations there. We shouldn't hesitate to buy just because he had a decent game there.

McNair is not RB just the same as Jones isn't a RB

Valencia and Rafael are the only real RBs in the team atm and the latter is always injured and the coach wants to see him replaced.

So yes we are signing Darmian for RB, I think he'll be an upgrade on Valencia but the very least there will be serious competition for that position.

You cannot plan for a contingency like that. What if all but 11 players are injured! You don't buy thinking that we will have such a horrendous injury crisis. As things stand, we are already targeting a CB so McNair's role as a back up would be further limited. We only have Shaw as our primary LB, while Blind and Rojo can do a job there. Similar to how Jones/McNair can do a job as a RB. However, we are actively seeking a RB and not a LB. Just goes to show that LVG may not think as highly of Valencia as some here claim.

I just brought up the McNair example to point out that LVG thinks he has a future as a RB but he is not waiting around to groom him there but is buying a well established RB. I see Darmian to be our first choice RB this season with Valencia as cover.

I agree. I don't rate McNair highly but that is for another thread.
