Just seen he was let go by AC Milan.

No wonder they dropped to 10th. Their decision making is appalling. Pirlo is a key example of a player they let go when they really should have kept him.

Easy to say in hindsight it was an awful decision for them to let Pirlo go but he needed a change and it was seen as the right choice at the time.

Come on where's the official announcement already, don't have to wait till tomorrow do we..?

Didn't we already know we'd struck a deal with the player?

I thought the outstanding issue was the two clubs agreeing a fee?

Yeah.

It is/was, breaking news from Turin and the rest of the Italian journo's is that we've agreed it now at €18m + €2m.

Until the BBC report it of course, by which point it will probably be £20M rising to £25M or something
Di Marzio is probably more reliable than BBC when it comes to Italian players. BBC will not report anything until it's confirmed by Torino or United.

Great news, so looking forward to this season already.

Apart from that one sky sports report a few days ago when they quoted sky Italia, has anyone in England mentioned anything at all? They really don't know feck all when it comes to our transfers

And then it will be "United's new £25m right back starts day alongside Chris Smalling..". Does irk me when they describe Memphis as the £31m signing from PSV.

He was 19 at the time, not like they let go of a World Class player...besides there are loads of players like him in the primavera, they have to let some of them go at some point.

Pirlo was offered a 1 year deal and Allegri had big plans for the younger players so he would been played out of position.

Credit to Di Marzio and Sky Italia. Di Marzio reported it like he was Darmian's agent.
Yep should enhance his reputation on here, at least for Italian/Serie A players.

According to Pirlo's autobiography, Milan wanted to keep Pirlo, but Allegri wanted to use him in an unfamiliar position as a left sided attacking midfielder. Conte presented him with an opportunity to come to Juve and be a #6, and that's what he wanted.

Probably more of a mistake by Allegri, trying to get something out of an ageing Pirlo that probably wasn't there, rather than letting him go because he was seen as surplus to requirements. I don't think it was the latter, going by Pirlo's account.

But his book is a bit mad, so it might not be 100% accurate. I envisage that he was blootered on red wine as he recited his story to the ghostwriter. I also can't imagine him admitting that he, Pirlo, the Pirlo, was ever considered unwanted.

From what I've read about him the last couple of days, he sounds like he's somewhat similar to Cesar Azpilicueta? More defensively strong than a rampaging right back?

He's better going forwards. In fact I'd say he's got world class potential going forwards, exceptional crosser off both feet.. excellent passer, great first touch and a decent dribbler. I have my doubts about him defensively but its an exciting signing nonetheless.
