Mats Hummels

Not likely. He's very important to Dortmund and we don't have CL football to boot. We'll have to offer big money for Dortmund to even consider(50m+).

I doubt it will be that much but certainly around 40m.

I know David Luiz went for 50 but we aren't mad like they are.

Feel we need two big signings for the spine of our team a CB like Hummels and a CM like Vidal will give us one of the strongest spines in the league/world.

DDG/Hummels/Vidal/RVP

Dortmund are under no pressure to sell him remember. Furthermore, they dont owe us anything. The market has spoken(and recently to boot), a CB just went for 50m,why cant they demand that much for Hummels. He is every bit the player that Luiz is and probably more. Like it or not, these crazy deals affect the market.

Sorry, to add to this didn't Andy Mitten say that the squad will be trimmed and without naming names some players have not performed as they might have been expected to? I'd say Kagawa is maybe on that list.
I'd think a host of others would be jettisoned before Kagawa, including the likes of Nani, Anderson , Young and valencia...

Well or more as the semis showed..

If he was desperate to leave and throw a fit, maybe, just maybe, Dortmund would sell him for a world record fee for a defender, I.e. In excess of the David Luiz fee.

We don't generally break records when it comes to the transfer market, at least not in the last ten years.

Would be a extraordinary occurrence if it happened.

Having a poor game tonight. Lack of pace really showing and diving in needlessly on a few occasions.

Looked vulnerable to pace first half but has had an excellent second half. If he had pace he'd be the complete defender.

If he had pace he'd be a 25 year old Rio Ferdinand.

Agree with this, I don't think there are many centrebacks that can keep pace with the fastest forwards. Boateng may be one, but he's often shunted to fullback. Reminds me of Stam vs Anelka in that Charity Shield game, look how that turned out.

He looks exhausted atm.. Don't think he has much left in the tank! Going to be a weak link for Argentina to exploit.. Boateng on the other hand has been immense!

The BBC commentary has been slagging him off all game (and Rio in the studio) so everyone will think he's shite now.
He hasn't even been that bad. He got beat for pace once or twice, but he has made some very solid tackles, intercepted a lot of passes on the counter and has looked dominant in the air (although the Argies are tiny).

He negates his lack of pace excellently with his positioning and intelligence. It's testament to him that he isn't roasted all the time with how high a line Germany play and his complete lack of pace.

Think he's shown that he'd be very comfortable in the PL during this WC.

He'd be superb in a back five with a pair of aggressive, quicker defenders beside him. Like Evans and Jones...

He got skinned 3 times for Pace. Got caught under the ball once.

Got lucky or bailed out by others on all occasions.

So we are just going to ignore, that he had clear problems with his knee and was nearly unable to play, huh?

Boateng was clearly better than him today, but this does not change the fact that Hummels was overall the best defender in the tournament.

Nah, not really. I'd even have Ron Vlaar ahead of him just based on this tournament and even De Vrij, Garay amongst couple others arguably like Omerou/Manalos/Varane/Thiago Silva (Though his YC and yesteday's game are low points.) assuming you mean CB's but they don't have the same hype and their teams didn't win the WC.

Fair point that he was maybe injured today though Had similar dodgy game vs Ghana too and a Okayish group stage. It's just the france game where he was very very good that got him back with hype but though he has been pretty good this tourney won't have him among the best 3 CB's. Maybe top 5 CB's .

He's been mercurial. Barely anything has gotten past him. I don't remember one defender making so many important interceptions. You've no idea what you're talking about.
He has been average. A mistimed header nearly cost Germany the title, lucky for them Palacios first touch and finish was beyond shite...

Lack of pace showed on several occasions as well. I wouldn't call his performance mercurial.

That's the problem with Hummels and why he'll never be one of the great CBs. He is too slow. You don't have to be Ferdinand in his prime pace wise, but you have to have a certain pace to be one of the very best.

Got found out today on numerous occasions and was also for Dortmund. Don't get me wrong he is a very good defender, but I've seen him costing Dortmund a few goals, because of his lack of pace.

Problem is that he has pace of Vidic, but he defends like he is Rio if it makes sense. It really stands out in a open game against pace like vs Ghana or against top quality pacy opposition. If you are slow sometimes you got to do what you got to do rather than take on say a Messi for pace. Another thing is He gets caught under the ball too from time to time.

Anyway, he is still a very good defender whose standout feature is also his distribution which makes him rated higher than what it should plus the teams that he plays for.

Not too sure we need him.

A lot of our issues defensively last year were that the FB and CB got no protection from midfield and we changed a lot. If we get a DM, or someone to do the legs for Carrick I would be quite happy with what we have.

Prefer Vidal type player and a tricky winger that can cross.

Didn't think he was poor at all today.. Was caught out a few times because Messi does that to everyone, and Howedes was caught up the pitch leaving that side open, but Hummels did really well given he played with an injury. Looked knackered at the end too, but he perfectly timed his tackles and positioned himself very well to not get caught out by his lack of pace because of Germany's high defensive line.

He doesn't even have the pace of Vidic. Vidic wasn't that fast, but could deal with any striker in the world, bar Torres. Agree with the rest though. Would still love him here, but he simply isn't a truly world class CB like Thiago Silva.

Got outapaced by Lavezzi and Messi, which happen to be 2 of the fastest players in the game. Do not want. Vermaelen would have never let that happen.
