Evans and Hummels doesnt have the same invincible look either!
Kompany and Benetia has the possibility of being as good a pair as Vidic & Rio in their prime...I consider both of them that good.
I truly hope City doesnt get Benetia and we get Hummels, having said that City can get Benetia way easier than we can get Hummels.
I'd honestly rather sign Subotic.
If we got either of them I'd be happy. Can't see it though.
Seriously wanting this to happen as much as Verm is experienced and De Vrij having a blast on the World Cup but the German guy would put an end to our problems in defense almost instantly.

Different sort of players obviously but I honestly think we have more of a chance of getting Vidal than we do with Hummels. I really think it's that unlikely.
Dortmund don't want to sell him and would most likely need a ridiculous fee to even contemplate it.
The player however is not ruling out the transfer someday. It's a good move to start acting now and even if he won't come here in this window it will help us in the longer run to get him sooner or later.
I agree, I actually think we have a decent shot at Vidal whilst Hummels is another kettle of fish entirely... the player doesnt want to move, the club doesnt want to sell, they have a great coach and are in the Champions League.
What we do have is LVG + a boatload of money...the reports of 20M seem way off the mark to me.. I would think the bidding for Hummels would start at 40M... he is my #1 choice for CB.
I'm all for us trying to get him like, if you don't ask you don't get and all that, I just can't see it happening. He would be a great fit here if we could manage it.

I dreamed of us signing Hummels as a replacement for Rio a couple of years back. He looked excellent in BVB's two title winning seasons. The partnership with Subotic was top class. The last two years have me a bit skeptical, though. He has been troubled by injuries during the time, and has had a mistake in him nearly every game I have watched. Dare I say, a bit like Johnny Evans.
At this stage, he is overpriced at £40m. I would wait another season before we spunk that kind of cash on him. At £20m, get him.

That can't be. While Cahill is good, Hummels is just on a whole other level - and younger too. Even though the current generation of top-quality CBs is sparse, Hummels is comfortably better than Cahill.
I read someone on another forum who posted that Cahill was better & everyone seemed to agree with him & lay into the guy who said Hummels was better which kinda made me think Hummels isn't the player people make him out to be
Seems a bit silly to me, wonder what forum it was. I'm not discrediting Cahill, it's just a no-brainer to me (and many others) that Hummels is one of the best CBs in the world. Is Cahill? He's good but he's not in that top echelon. Another thing: Would Cahill get into the German starting 11?

I don't hugely rate Cahill tbh so when I read that I figured maybe Hummels isn't that great which is odd cause I always thought he was a top CB, I mean I usually try to sign him on FM at least, I can't imagine Cahill being thought of by anyone as "world class" myself but I suppose Chelsea fans might? I wouldn't have thought he would get in Germany's squad tbh, I rate them pretty highly and they have some fantastic players, Cahill might be a starter for England but given how dreadful we are right now that's hardly something to use to suggest he's world class lol
Agree. Not doubting Cahill, I think he's one of England's better defenders and one of the better defenders in the PL. But better than Hummels? No chance in book.

I think there's far less in it than the cool kids would have you think. Hummels has a LOT of flaws IMO and the fact that he's held in such esteem shows just how few really top class centre backs are currently in the game.
I think he's a good defender aye, just think he's got nothing on say Rio at his peak, Hummels has always been someone I've rated highly though so it kinda threw me reading that!

If we do sign him, which is unlikely, it would be a real shame. We should have sign him last season. Imagine Vidic, Rio and Hummels being shown videos on how the Jag plays
Hummels is a good CB and fits the mold of what LvG likes i.e he can put the ball on the ground and distribute from the back. I've seen him commit some errors here and there but its not so bad. He is definitely one of the best CBs in the world however for me he is a bit on the low end when compared to Thiago Silva and Kompany. He would be a good buy I think but I doubt BvB would let him go and it seems like he isnt interested in a move right now. I would not break the bank for him either I would rather do that for another midfielder.
No pace whatsoever, lacking in physicality, prone to errors (seems tp be getting worse for this rather than better). Also very concerned at his injury record recently.

If we play a three man defense Hummels would be unrreal in the middle spraying the ball around.

This is becoming ridiculous now. Find me a single Dortmund fan - or even a fan from other German teams, i.e someone who watched Bundesliga every week - (and we have a few here) who agree that Subotic is near Hummels level, let alone better than him.
Shaw is young english talent,bright prospect.transfer among the league is always costlier.Whereas when you compare transfers in bundesliga its much cheaper.
Also you need to note that Saints had developed shaw from the youth stage.
He's just wrong in all three points. It's crazy. I've not the slightest idea why people call Hummels slow all the time. He's not and also certainly doesn't lack physicality. I can't remember him ever being bullied physically by a striker at all.
Subotic played one better season than Hummels out of 6 in which they started together as a centerback pair. I started to doubt Hummels myself, when he clearly struggled after the Euro 2012. He had problems to adjust his game in the nationalteam and performed below par for Dortmund for about a year, but he's clearly over his problems and is the standout centerback in the Bundesliga and in the nationalteam now.
Yeah, the slow part is very interesting. I mean, he isn't fast for a centerback but I think that he is comfortably faster than Vidic. While being weak physically is just absurd. I really think that people who say that Hummels gets bullied from strikers and Subotic is better than him, I doubt that they have watched regularly Hummels playing. He is easily the best CB on Bundesliga and IMO only Thiago Silva is better than him in entire football. Some may say that Kompany is better too, but I would prefer Hummels.

Id say its the most unlikely of all our summer targets. I suspect we'll end up with Vermaelen or Miranda.
