Mats Hummels

That first tweet is meaningless for everyone but maybe Real Madrid. He`d certainly start whenever healthy here, you would think.

No, the tweet is actually meaningless because it is not his full answer. Here is the whole passage:

Q: Nearly every week there are speculations about a transfer abroad...

A: I don´t need to habe won eight league titles at the end of my career. I rather do something truly special and that is abolutely the case here (in Dortmund). This is why I don´t have any thoughts in that direction at the moment. I rather win one league title as a key figure than four as a part time player.

With key figure Hummels does not mean just being a starter, but rather a lead player, potentially as captain (something he will certainly be if he sticks around long enough).

There is also something in that answer that sets him apart from interviews by Sahin, Götze, Kagawa, Lewandowski or Reus. Hummels is probably the player who identifies himself the most with the rise of Borussia Dortmund. He does not measure himself with the number of trophies but the role he has played in the success of a club. He always stressed the fact how much he enjoyed being a player in charge on and besides the pitch.

Something that is also completely ignored here is his contract situation. People always cite the star players who left Dortmund as a reason for Hummels leaving aswell, but ignore that in three of the four big cases (Lewandowski, Götze and Sahin) the officials of Dortmund had completely tied hands by either release clauses or the end of the contract. Kagawa was the only case, where the officials could have vetoed a transfer, but this would have also had the consequense that they would not have gotten any significant money for him, because he would have entered his last year of contract. Back in 2012 Dortmund was not in the position to simply give up 15-20 Mil. € just to have a player for another year.

In Hummels´case there is a contract without clause until 2017, so Dortmund could simply refuse to let him go even if Hummels would push for a move, which I doubt because he willingly signed a five year contract fully aware, that would bind him for at least three years to Dortmund. The soonest I could see Hummels leave would be 2015 for big money or 2016 for less.

Number of times dribbled by an opponent this season:
3 Smalling
4 Evans
7 Ferdinand
8 Vidic
27 Jones
39 Hummels

Jones has played 9 games of his 32 starts in midfield, that would explain why he has been dribbled more than the other 4 defenders. Hummels played 29 games as CB, why was he dribbled by opponent so often? Is it wrong to be concerned about having a player with this type of weakness playing in Premier League?

Definition of "dribbled" - Being dribbled past by an opponent without winning a tackle

Dribbled by an opponent? What kind of stat is that?
I think the stat of "did they get past him " is more important ! (Or is that what dribbled at means ??)

Its like saying a keeper is no good because he was "shot at" more than any other keeper .

Come on opta keep it real for fecks sake !

Not sure but sounds like it has something to do with defending. Might not be though, it could be number of times an opponent dribbled saliva on him because he was so in awe

So you posted something without knowing what it was just because it sounds like it was about defending? Well done.

Whenever I've seen him he always seems to go bombing forward a few times. Heart in your mouth stuff.

I have heard Hummels is prone to the odd mistake. I haven't seen a lot of him live. What are his strengths and weaknesses?

He already signaled from the bench that it is not that bad. Could also walk and celebrate after the game with the fans. Appearantly a light thigh injury.

Did hummles play a few games in midfield when dortmund had injuries with subotic and sokrates at centreback?

No.

First of all, our main injury crisis were CBs, namely Subotic and Mats himself.

Secondly, Mats said in a number of interviews, the last one just 3-4 days ago, that he's to heavy & slow these days to make a reasonable DM.

No. For starters, I'd recommend reading what Sphaero had written just a few posts above yours, and absolutely nothing has changed.

If we bid big enough, he would be ours.
I cant see BVB turning down a 60m bid for him.

Classy CB, makes the game looks effortless at times.
He's even more classy off the pitch in interviews. Totally natural behavior, no BS-ing, no pretentious phrases, honest, says what he thinks whether folks like it or not, sense of humor. He's too intelligent for most managers & interviewers. One fine day, he'd make a brilliant manager or TV expert.

Obviously they wouldn't turn down a 60m bid. We aren't going to be paying 60m for Hummels. Woodward is going to come in with a nice clean 35m bid which is about the his worth in the current market.

That's the problem if you don't have access to months and years of interviews and reports in German language: The lack of insights into a club and i.e. into the personality of a very special and absolutely unique player. He wouldn't be yours even if you bid 120m. For all other players (except for Reus but that's BVB blocking him, not the player not wanting to move): Perhaps. But Hummels? Just no.

He's the ideal CB to sign, but can't see him leaving Dortmund. His passing is phenomenal.

Based on the fabregas debacle from last year I suspect woody will bid more like 20...
And based on the fellaini debacle he will be waiting for the reuss buyout clause to activate next year then make a 60m bid for him.

Usually he's performing much better at Dortmund as the system suits him so, so much better than the N11. Last season with the injury crisis in the complete defense line and DM is a bit off; I don't think we played more than perhaps 2-3 times with the identical defense line and DM because of the injuries.

If Mitten wouldn't have said anything, I wouldn't hope at all. Damn him.
