Serious q: Do you really think that RVP should play in the wide position, as well as Rooney and we should then either wait for some of the to get injured or sell Kagawa (since neither will accept being 2nd choice).
And: Is there anyone in here who does NOT live in FM-World?

Ask the Daily mail those questions. That lineup is not the creation of the guy who posted it but of some DailyMail "journlist".

On top of that it's getting ridiculed from pretty much anyone on here.

So a bit weird to act like this is a general opinion on the caf that our team should look like this next season.

I really can't grasp why the media have decided to link us to Cavani. We so obviously don't need a striker at the moment, and there are so many great midfielders out there who they could have thrown blindly into the mix if they wanted to nab some transfer muppet readers. Cavani could hardly make less sense as a target.

They're idiots that are certain that we need to become Real Madrid and buy a host of marquee players players we don't need in multiple positions.

Because Ed Woodward is briefing his chosen mouthpiece, the Guardian's Daniel Taylor. Taylor is as reliable as you'll get in regards to United-related matters, he's been getting briefed since the Summer.

When I end my career, I don’t need to win eight championships, I’d rather have done something special. And that has certainly been the case here,” Hummels said. “That’s why I don’t waste any thoughts on this [leaving Dortmund] at the moments. I rather win one championship as a key player than four championships as a part-time player.

He's not leaving.

Ah, you know this do you? How, exactly?

Afraid it doesn't stand up anyway. The Mail reported Cavani links before Taylor did. Seems to me he's just parroted them the same as everyone else.

Well I know a mouthpiece when I see it, yes. Read Taylor's stuff since Woodward was appointed, it's written with utmost authority, and much of it makes a lot of sense in hindsight. Our firm and, at the time, ongoing interest in Mata was detailed at the beginning of September. As for Cavani, journalists were briefed last Monday by Woodward in relation to our transfer targets, or at least a reputable club source. If you're one of those people that greet these stories with cynicism then I'm wasting my time, but it's obvious to me, and others, that Taylor is currently the go-to man for Woodward.

You're right in saying that the Mail reported rumours first, it was back in January, but that was simply speculation. However, when a chief sports writer at a broadsheet, one who has been getting spits and spads of individial info all season, is confirming our interest, that a meeting has already taken place and details the reason for the interest on his Twitter feed for all to see then he's quite confident in his source.

You don't have to believe me, but look out for what Taylor writes throughout the Summer. Woodward needs and wants these guys on his side.

So would I, but we wouldn't get him unfortunately.

He's not in favour is he right now at Madrid or was the article I was reading garbage? We can really bring down the average age of the squad this summer. For me the spine should be young young

He's only 21 (I think). He may not be in favour at the moment but he is third choice behind Ramos and Pepe. One of them is suspended half of the time so I would just be amazed if Real Madrid let him go considering how much they need him and how good he can become.

I'd love to be wrong though.

The article was in the Telegraph I think suggested they would listen to offers. You never know if the President (started talking yesterday) is serious about a Suarez deal. You could hope a silly offer of 25m EUR
might make them take the money. We have young CBs so its not the "experience" some fans will want but to me they have plenty of that we just seem to think a 28 year old will benefit them. It will give them another excuse not to step up which they have used enough already!!

It's been reported by a number of very reliable sources which again makes you think it's been leaked by the club. Our approach to the media has done a complete 180 since SAF left and Woodward came in. Last summer's transfer targets were pretty much out in the open then you had United leaking Chelsea had offered us Mata/Luiz in a swap deal for Rooney, Moyes sacking was leaked to all the local press and now the Guardian reporting we're in for Cavani. Ed doesn't have a clue.

Cavani is another Fellaini deal....so wrong its a disgrace. Thats 70odd million better served paying down debt than buying the players which says everything.

Indeed. Fellaini actually made more sense, in fairness. We did need a midfielder. Unless we're losing two strikers, one of them being Van Persie or Rooney, then there's little point to this one. I'm going to assume it's been pursued in the event Moyes sold Van Persie come the Summer. Van Gaal, you would think, would veto this one.

I'd rather take Loic Remy or Lakaku and save the money if we lose Rooney or RVP we effectively still have a first choice player. Either way goals I dont think will be a problem if we can get the rest right it never has been before.

I'm not saying it's a god deal nor I am for it. I was responding to a post which was claiming the media had invested the entire story when it seems pretty clear to me United have leaked it along with the renewed interest in Fabregas.

Yes I know what you were saying sorry if I wasnt clear in my response. I much prefer the quiet approach, stealth, Leon.....now strangely we are becoming like Madrid. Watch the former approach being used by Arsenal to get Fabregas from under our noses as we embarrasing tell the world he's our target. I know little about Cavani except from what I've seen this season where he looks like Carlton Cole. We dont need a striker, if we did, we need young world class players with a sell on value. I look at our team right now and bar 2-3 I dont think there is much value in selling the majority of our squad.....

Why are you asking me as if I complied this picture in photoshop? It accompanied the article, thus I posted it. It wasn't my opinion. I thought that would be fairly obvious.

@NoLogo I only managed to find this part. That was the one I was referring to. Maybe Sphaero or someone else has read the thole thing

He also mentioned how he wanted to see Kagawa back haha!

Yeah thanks. I think I'm just going to buy the kicker on my iPad when I get home.

Thats my point exactly. One does not know what is peoples "serious" opinion, and what is just FM-talk etc. You see why I ask? It's not like irony, humor, serious face etc. is a given on the internet. I just ask!

Well okay then. Thought it was obvious that no one really agreed with that lineup and was having a laugh at the DailyMail nonsense.

Difficult to know for sure these days ;) (by no means no offence to you, personaly).

if we sign cavani then he has to be the number 9. meaning that one of van persie or rooney has to leave. playing him alongside rooney and persie would be a dream in football manager maybe, yet even in fifa or PES i don't think this is going to work.

and given that he is not proven in the premiership yet, this could well be a huge gamble. fellaini was never needed by united, that was just a package we got for appointing moyes.

cavani is a proven striker in italy and europe, and could be a success for us, but one or two has to go to get him into the team and there are other areas that need major reinforcement than our strikeforce.

opps just realize this is actually a matt hummels thread.

God that signing will IMO really be the watershed moment of our club becoming a chelsea! I'd so much rather we actually build a young potentially world class team now our former world class players are leaving. Rio, Vidic and Evra with Varanne, Stones and Shaw. Giggs with Reus. Carrick with Carvalho (yes replace before you have to!) and then a CM less than 24/25 years old.....

varane is unlikely to leave real unfortunately, although haven't heard much of him lately, is he injured?

about stones, is that everton's stones?. the first time i watched him was the everton v united game and for a young lad he look pretty good. shaw is a good prospect and although we will have to pay 10million more than his original value to get him, he seems to be a very good signing, being young, english and of course got the attributes to be a top fullback. could be our LB for the next decade or so.

i'm with you about signing the top youngish 21-24 years old around, but if a world class 28 years old become available, then why not? as long as the money is right and of course the player will improve the team.

btw hummels is 25 and maybe this is the time for him to move abroad. hope we can sign him. could be a great replacement for rio.

My favourite CB in the world atm, very technically gifted and excellent with the ball at his feet. Would be delighted if we got him.

He's out of favour and according to telegraph/independent may be an option. If they want Suarez who knows they may be willing to balance the books....Stones with a ball at his feet reminds me of ferdinand of old..very assured coming out from the back and someone Van Gaal could certainly progress. Hummels appears injury prone to me and we alreasdy have very injury prone young group back there. Class act mind. Not a defensive rock ala vidic though and prone to the odd error.

I think he is the perfect replacement for Vidic. But unfortunately we won't get him.

I think now Reus won't be leaving in the summer opens up the possibility of this transfer. Much more likely to happen now Dortmund know they have Reus for at least 1 more year.

We're going to need a defender but I don't think we are going to spend 60 million on Hummels and Shaw. We'll probably have to make do with a cheaper centre half (although I don't like this idea, we're going to seriously lack experience there next season).

Hummels is probably even more unlikely to leave Dortmund than Reus, which is already almost impossible.

Strange as I'd have though he was one of our least likely targets. He loves Dortmund and they love him.

I suppose if we convinced Dortmund to sell then he'd be unlikely to turn down a move. Who wants to stay with a club that's willing to sell you?

Don't see them selling though, so that theory doesn't really fly.

I think he's getable, it'll be Reus that Dortmund will be loathed to sell this summer not Hummels
