Mathys Tel | talks with Bayern back on?

I'd just see it out until the summer now without making a new signing.

Last thing we want now is to get drawn into a desperate bid for Nkunku.

Oh no the team that are top of the German league, the highest scorers in the league and have Kane scoring goals every week and top of the goalscoring charts were willing to let him go

I'm not sure he would have been the right signing, but that comment doesnt make any sense. Of course players who arent good enough for the top team in Germany are good enough to improve us
Ageeing to a obligation to buy fee for 60m would have made this a very high risk transfer for us. What if he is no better than Höjlund and we waste another 60m on an attacker that will do nothing for us. We are not in a position to make gambles like that and if Bayern demanded a clause like that walking away was the right thing to do.

I mean if it's a loan move for Nkunku with no obligation I feel essentially similarly to how I did with Tel. Fairly risk-free way to give yourself another option up front.

I agree, though, that I'd rather we sign nobody than cave on some stupid obligation demand.

I was happy when we walked away from the Branthwaite deal in the summer and I’ll be happy if we walk away from this one as well. We’ve been pressured into overpaying for players for far too long as “United always pay” and selling clubs have used this to their advantage while selling players for way more than they are worth. We overpay and are then stuck with an unwanted player when they don’t work out. Should be looking to not pay above market fees and salaries, and INEOS seem to be working with that in mind.

I don’t understand why Bayern would insist on an obligation to buy for a 19 year old? That’s a red flag if ever there was one.
Because he’s barely played, isn’t that good, and those mugs Spurs were willing to pay a ridiculous fee for him.

What do you mean if? We already have done

Don't think the club can get involved in an obligation deal. It's a loan to help us and see if he's worth investing in, we have so many young players. Probably best for the lad if he doesn't come here with the pressure to score where ever he plays.

He needs game time so if Bayern can't find the minutes then he shouldn't refuse other clubs. Bale starred at Spurs and got a huge move to Madrid, Modric etc.

Told you we wouldn't let him leave with an option. Makes absolutely no sense for us.

Real shame that he’s a top talent. It’s worse knowing the alternatives are Nkunku and Bailey ffs

Bailey.

It's so depressing. Villa don't even play him in their first team, but oh, he'd be perfect securing this mid-table club a top 10 finish.

Aren't we supposed to have scouting departments so we don't go for the likes of Bailey.

I’m sure the scouts would/do recommend other players but we are only able to loan players so it’s looking for cast offs.

Amorim hit the nail on the head about balancing the urgency with making the right decisions.

“We are trying everything to improve the team without doing mistakes of the past, and trying to balance the urgency of the moment, so we know all the aspect of our club in the moment, but we are trying everything.”

“Yeah, we have to improve as a team to score goals, and we are trying the best to improve the team. This market is really hard on the clubs, to make some deals here, it’s hard. Then you have this urgency, sometimes when you are in this moment, you make some mistakes, we are trying everything. We want so bad to improve, I want so bad to improve the team, I know what the team needs, but sometimes it’s possible or not, but we are trying everything.”

We shouldn’t freak out and rush into the wrong transfer on the wrong terms because of how bad our results are right now. We’ve been here before and ended up with shite overpaid players that we can’t move on without incurring huge financial losses.

Feels like a club briefing. I’m ok with us walking away if it reinforces us not being mugs.

Fair play to United if they wanted 60m for him in the summer.

They were trying to exploit our weak position and it won't improve if we overcommit on players. Bayern know that isn't good value.

This is the benefit of having multiple irons in the fire at once, if one isn't suitable then walk away. Let's see what happens tomorrow

Can't say I'm disappointed because I've no idea how good or bad he us. But I know we desperately need attacking reinforcements

I'm glad we haven't agreed to an obligation. We need a straight loan to cover numbers in the forward line but there's too much risk attached to make it a permanent deal at this stage

If Garnacho goes we are worse off. He isn't going with Rashford and Antony also gone

I know, I can't see why Chelsea would let Nkuknu go without either an obligtion or Garnacho in return.

It's not like they're stacked up front anyway, Jackson looks pretty bad everytime I watch him.

Realistically, Tel was only ever going to have so much impact for us this season.

The real upside of the deal would have been being able to effectively test-drive a high reputation young player for a few months before deciding whether to buy. And given our track record in recruitment, the level of assurance that would provide would have been a definite plus.

If we had to commit to signing him now, then it's a lot less attractive.

Respect to Bayern on insisting on obligation to buy. Option to buy is rubbish for selling club. We should learn a thing or two here.

But, of course it is easy to hold your ground when you are not desperate.
Not if the club has not been willing to give that same player more than 3 90s in half a season, has not played its part in developing that player and yet would still be set to make a profit on the player despite all that. A club should be losing negotiation leverage in that case. Otherwise they're going to have an extremely unhappy player on their hands that they need to manage and risk losing the player on a free out of spite.

I don't get it - why an option to buy is bad for someone?
All parties assesing situation in the summer. No?
If we give you an option we give up any control over the player. We can only lose. Either the player is a success and you buy him, or he flops and we're stuck with him. Makes no sense. And I'm not trying to be mean here, but you are about the last club I'd loan a player to. The way you destroy a players value is alarming. Only sale made sense for us. A loan without an option maybe. But an option was rightfully a no go for us.

If this means we can somehow bring in someone experienced (albeit with a lower long term potential) on loan that could hit the ground running now then it might be a silver lining.

Why the feck would we do that? Some of you are literally insane by definition. We did the exact same thing 5 years ago with Ighalo. We need to wait to find the right players and build a side that can actually challenge, even if it takes 2-3 years. Ridiculous this obsession with just buying anybody to improve in the short term when we’ve already seen it just ends up in a top 4 cycle and no long term prospects. I hope this new board aren’t as short sighted given we’ve been doing the same thing for 12 years now, would be insane to expect different results. Time to properly take our time rebuilding.

I’ve always thought that he looked lively, with the potential to develop into a top player. But it’s only worth the gamble at a cheapish price.

He’s not what we need right now anyway. I don’t see how anyone can look at our squad and think, “Yeah, another inexperienced, inconsistent attacker struggling for form is just what we need.”

I see your point. Fair enough.

A 19 year old with 16 career goals to his name.

This isn't what our situation needs. Football isn't a who can field the youngest team competition.
