I think it's clear he doesn't suit Mourinho's system. He relies on hitting teams on the break, rather than "slow build up" play. Mata hasn't much pace and likes to pick passes and unlock defences. He's also not well suited playing wide in that system because he does his best work in the middle.
He's a top player - no doubt and the type you build a team around.
Bit harsh on Schurrle - playing upfront on his own in a team that wanted the draw. He's not a forward anyway.

Probably true but would be worth testing them with a £45/50m bid. Over cost i agree but he is without doubt a quality player who is proven in this league and has an unbelievable pedigree of winning major trophies (CL, Euros, WC). I would rather spend that on him as i believe without doubt he improves the squad. and would allow us a bit more versatility for teams that our wing play is not working against.
Mata's not all that different to Ozil or Sneijder who Mourinho had no problem with so I doubt it's tactical. Must be personal.
