Mason Mount's Many Misfortunes (please don't make another waste of money post)

Donate his body to science, I like it
day 327

ugarte has complained of a tight hamstring. we will study the effects of hot and cold therapy. test subject m is strapped to the table and ice will be applied to one of his hamstrings for 10 minutes. dr. length will then administer a steady stream of hot golden medicine to both of his hamstrings and see if the iced one feels looser. test subject m was hesitant to the ice but compliant. test subject m reacted extremely negatively to the hot piss element of the test. further tests required before ascertaining suitability for human subjects.

He’s going to join the Phil Jones/ Owen Hargreaves club.

The most un-number 7 like player we’ve ever had. Even Michael Owen actually made the difference in a derby once upon a time.

at this point easily surpasses sanchez for worst signing. Both made zero sense during the signing, and both still have made no sense after seeing them play for united. At least sanchez was available to play

On what basis.
Because he gets injured playing for the club.... which he has a contract for.
Yes. It's not like opposition players are targeting him to make him injured. If he is not fit for the job he is contracted to do then part the ways à la Ashworth.

He didn’t miss that many games for them apart from the last season though.

Still kinda feels like we bought another Shaw. Hopefully he gets well and soon cause I like Mount. I think he's a fantastic player but just needs to stay fit as he's got a lot to contribute to this team.

Tbf if you've had the injuries he has any slight strain you feel you're not exactly going to chance it, and you'll get them just from how long youve been out. Hopefully it's nothing worse than that.

From what i've seen around the interwebs, it doesn't sound like it was very bad.
Hope he gets back quick, since Amorim likes him.

I don’t think he can start a game until a month after being back, should only play 15 minutes here and there.

I think you really understand how contracts work.

@cyril C said Sabitzer did score for us
Thanks for the clarification.

Regarding Fred, I recall he was near end of contract and was crossroad whether to extend contract with a pay rise. Do any of you believe Fred deserve a pay rise, longer contract such that no other club could afford him, and we will be stuck with an expensive Fred for another 3 seasons?

Letting Fred go was fine, didn't work as expected so good luck at al. Letting McTom leave was a mistake.

At this point there's easily 4-5 signings worse than Sanchez after Sanchez, which is a statement in itself. Sancho, Antony, Mount, Malacia come to mind.

That’d cost around £80m which just won’t happen. £35m amortisation and £45m in wages. Best bet is a sale for a cut price and Mount agreeing to take a wage drop or Utd supplementing.

Even if you could get rid at £20m and pay half his wages you’d still lose almost £40m
Punting him on other club won't work. Keeping him on payroll will cost money anyway. Mutual termination is the best way albeit at a significant cost. It's a bitter pill to swallow for the club otherwise risk having handicapped squad with one less member right at the time of rebuild.

It's very unfair to lump Malacia in there. He was a cheap punt not a star signing.

hmm not bad, but not good either. Reoccuring muscle injuries can destroy players careers pretty quickly. Martial and Anderson could be named among our players. any kind of intensity they had slowly died with each injury. Ando had two ACLs too, which destroyed him, but Martial never used to be an intensive player so after giving him more pressing instructions it was a shock for his body. Hopefully Mount can get over it, but I am very sceptical tbh.

I feel sorry for him. The injuries are destroying his career.
I'd go along with that sentiment as well.

Unfortunately injury prone players do have that problem of recurring/adjacent injuries. Whilst resting the areas of injury, it's difficult, even with modern technology, to keep the rest of the body fit.

A case of "have had my mouth fixed, now my teeth won't work", but its not funny when it happens to someone who is desperately trying to make a good impression.

Prime Mason Mount was actually an excellent player to be honest.

Exceptional work rate, great short burst of acceleration to break through the lines, excellent turn/half turn, able to drive forward with the ball, always a threat in and around the box and was incredibly mobile across the middle and either wing.

IF we get that player back we're in business. Big If though, sadly.

Saw something Michael Owen said the other day. Where he admitted he was scared to get those muscle pull type injuries so would reduce the number runs/sprints he would make in a game. So it shows you there is even serious psychological issues with such injuries. Like Owen, Mounts game is heavily based on his running ability so yeah the signs aren’t good.

Oxlade Chamberlain, Wilshere, Lallana, Mount, Dele Alli

The list of English midfielders not reaching their potential continues on.

Couldn't you make a similar list for France, Germany etc?
Yeah. It's not as if injuries are exclusive to the premier league. There are loads of footballers who have their careers setback with serious injuries. England might have had more because of the pace and physicality in the english game.

I’m no sports medicine specialist, but it seems to me that Mount needs to take a long layoff. For the good the squad as well as for him, that is. We’re building something without him, and trying to work Mount back into the rotation in February or March is just as likely to be disruptive as it is productive. If at the end of the season we have some dead rubber matches Mount can be slotted in to prep for him summer training and hopefully be primed for the new season.

Send him to some private rehab clinic all expenses paid for the rest of the season, have him come back in pre season fully rested and if he’s still got niggles send him on his way to anywhere that will take him.

I really like the player, we never needed him and it was a awful financial decision, but there’s a good player there.
