Boring, DVB style transfer at 40m. At 50+ it feels like a criminal waste of money. But hey ho, what do I know.
I think we need to just forget about how anyone does in the England team. No one looks particularly good. It's not a signing that excites me I'll be honest.
He's underwhelmed me every time he's played for England, not sure what he really does. He had some very good seasons for Chelsea though before this year.
Some of the meltdowns on here though about it are ridiculous
So in the last year he's become someone who can't make an error of judgement?
To be fair, I feel like the club being unable to negotiate a reasonable fee is being taken out on Ten Hag. He's a decent to good player, off the back of a shocking season, wants to leave, 1 year left on his contract, and we're hearing figures of £60m... We can reserve judgement until we know the final fee but it hurts more when you get your pants pulled down for a player who isn't even that great.
Erm, Mount was widely unpopular with England fans on here and in general because he's been Southgate's teachers pet and starts every game despite Mount never actually doing anything on the pitch to warrant his place in the team.
I don’t think anyone is doubting he can be a useful squad player, but to pay over £50 million for the English John O’Shea is ridiculous. Chelsea will be laughing all the way to the bank.

“exotic name” card in 2023, and “bloody foreigners” type posts from that other guy, get in the binThat's my point. People are crying over Mason Mount and how disappointed they are, only to then suggest 21 year old player from any league because he has an exotic name.
Says you. If he's the managers number one target then I'd argue that he cleary does fit.Pretty much this. Add on the fact that he doesn’t have a clear fit in our side and yeah I’m pissed off. But I also feel like Ten Hag deserves blame as it seems in his time here that he finds obsessions with certain players and is never able to move on to other targets. And I don’t like the pattern of every signing/target of his seemingly being influenced by the fact that they played against Ten Hag in the Dutch league.
Antony
De Jong
Timber (and then Martinez)
Eriksen
Dumfries
Gakpo
Mount
Weghorst
Malacia
Starting to see a pattern here
O’Shea is Irish, not British.I'm not even a massive fan of Mount but other than being British and being able to play on more than one position, what does he have in common with O'Shea?

I know a Celtic fan that cried when Liam miller left.Never been mad about him for England but I know a lot of Chelsea fans who rave about him and seem gutted that he's leaving which is always a good sign.

And you clearly have some sort of weird agendaYes but you clearly seem unable to form an opinion of your own so it doesn’t really matter anyways.
Aye its not like we've signed players before who haven't fit the teamSays you. If he's the managers number one target then I'd argue that he cleary does fit.

Maguire looks good for England to be fairI think we need to just forget about how anyone does in the England team. No one looks particularly good.
Sancho was the last managers number one targetNumber one target
It's obvious he is Eriksens replacement.
I didn't say thatSancho was the last managers number one target
Pogba was Mourinhos number one target
Both a terrible fit for us.
For what it's worth I think mount is decent. But I take issue with your narrow minded attitude of Ten Hag is right, everyone else is wrong. Obviously managers get things wrong
I'd have preferred him than that 3 legged giraffe we borrowed from a Turkish zoo.Ten Hag also wanted Arnautovic last summer.
He's not a No.8 IMO. He's clearly at his best in the attacking midfield zones whether that's centrally or out wide.
I expect us to sign another CM that has more defensive qualities.
I think Mount will start off as a rotation player as his role is occupied by Bruno. Wouldn't be surprised to see him force himself into the team somewhere though.

40-50 and add onsWhat’s the most everyone would be happy to pay to consider it a good deal?
id say 40m
He's been Chelsea's best player in 2 out of the last 3 PL seasons. This year I don't think they have had any stand out player either tbf.
Way people are cracking on is like we are signing Jonjo Shelvey. It's a bit silly.
Don't think that's true. He's been injured/frozen out due to hit contract situation. Also Chelsea has had little to play for for a while now. When the guy is not doing enough to be a part of the solution in that Chelsea team, that is a serious red flag.
Besides, a lot of people, including myself, have had enough with overpaying for a very overrated turd (Maguire) just because he is English. If filling the homegrown quota matters, then find a way to get them through the academy as it would cost nothing other than the basic wages.
As a coach, yes (although there are mixed messages in terms of improving possession retention and transitioning through proper interplay as opposed to Bruno-ball or Licha finding a long pass from deep). But all the signs are that he needs an authoritative, high-grade DOF to push against him both in terms of signings and in terms of introducing the very best academy prospects to develop them and minimize first team squad exhaustion through under-rotating. Bringing in someone like that, as much as signing a Caicedo or similar to both dynamize and solidify midfield, should be top of priorities for new owner...Tbf if we are going to have any bloody hope left we have to hope that Ten Hag has a better vision than Jose, Ole Rangnick or anyone else that's followed Sir Alex.

John o Shea isn’t British, try and keep up chap.
This isn't a ten Hag signing imo but rather a signing that they've decided collectively to bring in to develop the play style ten Hag wants to implement.
This move won't stop us signing a deep lying midfielder. Mount and Bruno if paired as interiors in a 3 man midfield with Casemiro as the pivot, can potentially work. And it can work due to the fullbacks inverting and creating a box shape. I think we'll see that at times next season with the defensive line being higher. Erik ten Hag is going to create a 325 shape in possession imo.
So the control in possession has to come from the GK, CBs, deeper mids and fullbacks. With the forwards having to control the game by defending well from the front. And those players will be the two advanced 8s, wide forwards and striker, with the players behind them in close proximity closing off the space and cutting off the passing lanes between the lines.
We'll sign more players and I think we'll sign a deep-lying midfielder as well. But something like the below shape in possession is what I believe ten Hag is aiming for.
If the left side is active in possession, then Timber forms part of the back 3 and Shaw inverts into midfield.
-----------------------Sesko-------------------
--Rashford------Bruno------Mount-----Antony---
-----------Casemiro-------Timber-------------
------Shaw------Martinez--------Varane---------
----------------Costa/Verbruggen------------
The team definitely requires a deep lying midfielder as well. And I can see a deeper lying midfielder being bought which will provide even more tactical flexibility rather than the tactical predictability we see see right now.
