Hmmm interesting. Wonder why ETH loves him so much then.

Same reason every coach who ever coached Mount loves him. I don't know if you know this, but Ajax and Ten Hag tried to sign Mount after his loan spell with Vitesse when he was like 18 or 19 years old. He was being chased by Ajax, PSV and Sporting at the time and Ajax appeared to be favourites to get him. I don't know how close he got to signing for them back then but in the end he chose one more season on loan at Derby and then Chelsea were hit with a transfer ban and appointed Lampard. The rest is history.

But he’s not involved in the deal? Again, posters were losing their shit about 80m and 20m has already been knock off that price since.
At no point have we, reportedly, ever come close to Chelsea’s evaluation yet the bid is progressing nicely for us.

We've already had 2 bids rejected, so it's unlikely to be a low price.

I'm ok if he ends up signing for 40m. I don't even think about the 80m bracket.

We'll do this deal, then realise later we have no money to sign a top striker, then sign some 35 year old 2nd rate striker on a 1 year loan, and then everyone wonders why we struggle for top 4 next year.

I only hope that our budget is actually 1000 million and not 100 million. We need that extra zero.

This is almost exactly what will happen and we all know it. We've been here before so many times before.

But rejected far below the price being quoted to us. I doubt we’d be back with a second or third bid if the fee doesn’t end up being close to our cut off point anyway.
It would just be better if posters just admitted they don’t want the player. I can’t think of the last deal we were linked with that posters cried about spending 10m too much. Every little hurdle has had roars of walk away! Walk away! And is disingenuous to think it’s because it’ll cost 55m instead of 50m

I think it was more a case of Mount being offered a contract he was happy with before the WC and then that offer was pulled when he returned from the WC. The difference being his dad was negotiating directly with Boehly before the WC (same as James) but Chelsea had hired two now sporting directors during the WC who decided that contract wasn't good for the club. They offered him a different contract, which he rejected, then they supposedly offered him a one year deal on huge money to give both parties time to resolve the standoff, and he rejected that too. It's been a standoff ever since. The club briefed Boehly himself would sit down with Mount after the season ended but I guess nothing productive came out of that meeting since Mount is still wanting to leave and Chelsea are actively negotiating with United for his sale.

I also don't think it's true to say most Chelsea fans are fine with him being sold. There are loads of us who indeed very bothered that he not only is leaving, but going to a rival club.
Apart from you and one other Chelsea fan on caf, I have not seen any Chelsea fan (on caf) who is happy or want Mount sold.
I’m on multiple Chelsea forums and am deep into Chelsea Twitter/YouTube/social media and the majority of our ONLINE supporters are fine with him leaving. May be different amongst matchgoing supporters.

‘Happy’ with him being sold is different than not bothered. I’m personally not happy that we’re selling him to a rival but am sort of indifferent. If he suddenly decided to stay I’d be fine with it. If he goes, oh well, we can replaced him pretty easily I think.

Any chance we get this done by the end of the week you reckon or is Joel going to take a week to pick up the phone to sign off a third bid

You're "happy" with him leaving because you're upset with him wanting to leave. In reality, you want him to stay. He's your POTY two seasons in a row amongst many great players, and has been a fantastic player for you. Potter has "ruined" his reputation by not playing him much, so now all of a sudden he's an average player you'd like to leave. It's just bullshit.

Nah. I won’t lose any sleep over Mount leaving. Plugging Nkunku into our team is an immediate upgrade.

I’ve never slighted Mount or his contributions, btw. He was awesome for us for 2-3 seasons. But he has been woeful for a long time now and since well before Potter was here. He is no longer integral to our team like he was so with that being the case he can go.

I‘m happy to see the back of Koulibaly, Ziyech, Auba etc. I’m not happy to see Mase go. But accepting of it.

We didn't overpay for Bruno. Casemeiro is a world class player and the high fees was just justifiable.

I will give you Martinez. Luckily, it work out for us.
There were some question marks about Bruno as previous stints were not successful, Case is a rather old player, some said past it so…

Slightly miffed that we'd be financing their move for Caicedo, who I'd much prefer we sign over Mount.

I don't understand how they can happily afford to sell Kovacic to City for 25M and then balk at twice that money for Mount on the final year of his deal.

A third bid in the region of £55-£60 million… On an out of form player with a year left on his contract. Have utd given Ten Hag full control of the budget to spend or what? I can’t see how anyone with financial nous can approve of such reckless, overpriced spending.

Agree completely.

And then there’s the daft wages we’ll no doubt offer him.

We NEED a fecking top striker, why are we doing this!? It’s batshit.

As United fans I don’t think you should be worrying about Mount’s form. His terrible season was mostly as a result of burnout and injuries caused by burnout. You’ll be getting a player who will be coming off of the longest rest period in years. Don’t think he was involved with the England team and didn’t play at all for us in the final games of the PL season.

He should be back to normal Mount to start the preseason.

But apparently our negotiation team sucks.

He was running down his deal and on a big wage. It’s a good deal for them and they’re adopting a very unique tactics with these younger players on long deals and they’ll replace him with Caiceido - it looks like chaos but actually they might have an insane team in a couple of years with a core around 24-25 by sacking off last season and probably this coming one to a point as well.

I have realised that it's time for me to stop trying to make sense of transfer fees or even second guess how a specific player fits into Managers vision , from now on I would rather wait to see how it all pans out and then be captain hindsight .

Nobody spends that sort of money on an out of form player, especially one that’s been out of form for 18 months (according to Chelsea fans). It’s awful value for money and that’s not even factoring in him being free next summer. The logical move would be to let him find his form again over the course of the season, then sign him on a free, that way you have a higher guarantee of him hitting the ground running and you’ve gained 55-60 million in the process to spend strengthening another position.

60-65M for a player desperately want to leave Chelsea, on last year of the contract and in a bad form for a long time. We should walk away. No other club will offer them 60M for Mount.

How many more times will posters say he's been in a bad form. He's been in and out cause of the injuries.

Just hope we get a big boost of funds with new owner sponsorship so that this signing can be in addition to the defensively sound midfielder and top striker.

Well Ten Hag likes every player that ever played in the dutch league so that isn't saying much.

In regards the "bad form" the whole team has been in bad form, not dissimilar to how we were under the final Ole/Ragnick season, measuring on form alone we should have ditched Bruno, Rashford and Shaw before the start of last season..... I am not convinced that Mount is the player we are looking for or need, but I do not think he will be anything less than decent if he does sign, I think he is a pretty safe bet, just not sure his ceiling is that high

Is it fair to say Mount’s best football for Chelsea was played as a floating right forward in a 3-4-3?

£60m is acceptable. A lot of people are suggesting that a player in the last year of his contract should cost significantly less. However, the only reason he's even on the market is because he's in the last year of his contract. He would otherwise be completely unavailable.

So, take the contract situation off the table. Is a player of Mount's ability worth £60m? In today's market, I'd say so.

Yes, as more of an 8/10 hybrid. He dropped deep far more regularly than his counterpart on the other flank (usually Havertz) and was crucial in providing cover for the wingbacks as they went forward. It's pretty similar to the role he'd play as an 8 in the system that Pep / Arteta / EtH prefer.
