Shouldn't be any more than the £50 million offered. I'd tell Chelsea to take it or leave it and move on if they don't accept.

You can laugh all you want, but this double 8 thing is whole load of nonsense that our team is nowhere near at.

We have been playing dire football for months, and all of a sudden we should be able to deploy a double 8 system like City can? Yeah right. He's a decent player for sure, but on this limited budget, a very dumb priority to make whilst funding Chelsea to improve their team even more. Also the only team interested in him, just go for other options and let them lose out on their money.

If the idea is that you can get him for cheap, sure, go for it, but this is a huge signing which barely makes sense.

£65m is a ridiculous asking price when he's on free next year. If we want him, just wait. £50M is more than fair, I don't see us going higher than 55.

Well with the right players yeah sure.

Will obviously be sorted at 50m+10m in add ons. Get in done before pre season and that's fine, good start in midfield.
Yeah seems the logical conclusion
Hopefully get it done quicker, can they not just go straight back with a counter offer.

Like a bit of bartering at a Turkish market

Casemiro won't be able to cover for both Mount and Bruno in big games.

Well we don't have those yet, and it seems very unlikely that we will after the summer. Not that those players are bad, but for now our GK is de Gea (likely to be replaced), AWB, Varane, Casemiro, Bruno and then you add mount. So many players who are very untidy, erratic and uncomfortable with the ball. Really wonder how that is going to work, on a tight budget it seems (also takeover dependent maybe).

Technically it doesn't make a difference when a player is signed in June for FFP purposes and in general as long as it's before pre season starts. At that point you just start missing training time though and it gets frustrating for all involved.

I get it for CF - we will wait on Kane for a while and eventually move on to Hojlund if Kane doesn't force a move. It is what it is. But we really should be getting Onana and Mount in before pre season starts at the very least.

It isn't some magical shape only Man City can play, we've effectively been trying it as is during parts of this season with the likes of Fred pushing high up alongside Bruno in that 3-2-5 in-possession shape.

All we're really talking about is Mount (who provides a combibation of pressing and technique that suits the role) taking that Fred place in what we were already trying in those games when our #8 was playing very high.

I sure as hell think we need to strengthen other positions to make it work, and it wouldn't have been what I would have considered the obvious direction to take the midfield, but you make it sound far more outlandish than it actually is.

I mean he wouldn't be doing all the work, both Bruno and Mount are very hard workers, very good pressers and it's just up to ten hag to balance them. It's a very good midfield IMO. Doesn't lack defensively. For me lacks a calming presence, a press resistant deep playmaker, but Ten Hag is building towards more a counter pressing side as that player is incredibly hard to find so it is what it is.

Licha, Varane, Shaw and whoever at right back and it's got a very nice balance there. Need the front 3 to be balanced with work rate though and the right attacking qualities. Given Rashford is a bit useless defensively, we definitely need a harder working 9 who doesn't need Bruno to work for him.

With the current squad there's no chance, one of them will end up on the wing  this big slice of budget should be going on a deep midfielder first.

We played it literally all the time the last few months. Eriksen and Fred both played much further up, next to Bruno, rather than Bruno being a second striker in the 2nd half of the season, especially to close the season. Mount suits that perfectly and essentially replaces them in one 24 year old player.

Going to be over half our budget on Mount!

I don’t think it will be half our budget in the end after we have sold a few players.

I expect us to recoup around £30 million each for McTominay and Maguire, £10-15 million for Fred, £20 million for Henderson as well as selling a few of our other fringe players for various smaller amounts.

Leave this chump where he is.

Let him stay at Chelsea and leave for nothing after a season on the bench.

50 million is crazy.

We have no competition for this guy, it’s literally us or he goes for free in a year.

He shouldn’t be a priority but you just know we are going to sign him for 60.

Let's do our part to help Boehly not cripple CFC, by hugely overpaying for Mount. Where's Big Ed, does he have any advice?

Offer exactly 1 quid more than last offer and if they don't want it, walk away.

If we want to stop being the worst club in the world on transfers (ahem, without 'levers' anyway) then we need to you know, stop being the worst club in the world at transfers.

That was short n sweet.

Way to go Captain Obvious Romano has this innate need to act relevant for Every transfer rumour it's quite funny as well as pathetic .

Offcourse if Ornstein is reporting that Chelsea made a Counter proposal than this bid isn't gonna be accepted as things stand , just regurgitating stuff as if it's a new information classic Romano .

There is a lot of truth to what you're saying, but that is also under the premise that we keep that shape which we completely dropped later in the season. For which reasons that were, I am not entirely sure. Mount offers a lot more on the ball than Fred I'd say, but Fred is also far more useful in breaking play. Teams have cut through us very easily, especially away. I'm sceptical, but neither am I the tactician.

This hatred for Romano is quite shocking in all honesty. He’s just reporting on it for his followers, what’s so wrong about that?

My thoughts exactly. I like Mount but that should be the max. Force him to put pressurebon Chelsea, that's certainly what RM or Barca would do.

The last few months of the season were also hardly a big succes, especially in midfield where we completely lacked control in a lot of the matches.

Bruno has indeed been deployed less high up on the pitch, Eriksen and Fred a bit higher but would hardly call it a huge succes. You can make an argument that Mount could suit that role better, but I think what he will improve in attacking output, we will suffer it defensively and in terms of balance. Which weren't great in the first place.

It's a very good midfield IMO.

It's 3 sub 80% passers with the added bonus of Mount and Bruno both being bottom 15th percentile in ground duel success percentage. We already have a lightweight, unathletic midfield who aren't technically gifted to the point where that's balanced out. Mount doesn't move the needle on any of our midfield issues (elite final third presser though tbf)

They're about to sell Havertz for the price they're quoting for Mount, how can they think we'll pay that? I think this will rumble on to the end of the window to be honest.

Just go for Eze instead.
Or Rabiot on a free. We could play him, Mainoo, Amad or Eriksen in that role without having to spend a penny. Guler, a wonderkid from Fenerbahce is available for £17 million too, if we really fancied options.
