You just know for a fact that if Liverpool wanted mount they’d get him for £40m but because it’s Utd every team just loves to double the price.

The fact a difference in valuations is now seen as a drama is stupid.

This always happens. The bidding club never in the history of transfers has said "I think your player is worth £x" and got the response back "feck me, so do I. This was easy"

And yet "walk away" we hear. Christ you must all be fine with us never signing anyone ever again
I'd say it's more that people have seen plenty of Mount and don't see him as worth getting into a protracted back and forth over. There's a huge difference between 40m and 70m. People want to see us be decisive with the limited funds we have. It's completely reasonable to want us to look elsewhere.

Everytime I open this thread, I hope to be greeted by a tweet saying we're not interested anymore.

This is not true at all. Andy Carroll was pretty much that scenario to Liverpool

looks like it literally just happened with macallister

I don't blame Chelsea for asking for 70m, they know very well they won't get that no matter what but they are driving a hard bargain to get as much as possible, it'll settle around 45m-50m, if United stick to their guns and get Mount to pressure the club

Can someone please explain the thread title to me? We’ve agreed personal terms but not a fee? Why are we even allowed to talk to the player if a fee hasn’t been agreed?

with pretty much every big transfer that drags on a bit some journalist or other says that personal terms are agreed

it gets clicks and there is no way or proving it’s horseshit, if the deal doesn’t go through then you can just say the clubs couldn’t agree a few

in my opinion it’s just a perfect open goal for a journalist to get clicks with no recourse if it’s wrong, and most of the time its bollocks

70 million is just their anchor point and starting negotiation. Not sure why everybody is getting over excited about that figure.

We say 40M, they say 70M..... You meet somewhere around 55M. All pretty basic stuff.

If you don't meet around 55, then you walk away. Simple really.

Could rumble on for a while though. Pretty sure this deal will happen (At about 55Million). Probably a bit high for Mount in the last year of his contract, but if ETH wants the payer then the price isn't ridiculous and it's a good deal.

The longer it goes on the more desperate Chelsea will be to sell.

£70 million plus add ons is a Ludacris amount for Mount.

That's because we're stupid enough to keep paying.

70m for an average player that's free in a year is mental meanwhile Liverpool sign a world cup winner for a world record fee from 2002.
What’s being a World Cup winner got to do with anything?
We got a bargain ourselves. The WC finalist striker who almost single handedly brought World Cup to Netherlands. For free, we only paid his wages.

Despite the rules, you go and agree personal terms with a player first and then try to negotiate a fee. You won't go close to the other club and start negotiating the deal if the player isn't 100% fine with the move. Which is kind of logical.

£55 is fair. Bellingham just went for £86m. £70m is a joke.
£45m is fair for a player that can sign a new contract elsewhere in January. Anything more than that should be heavily incentive based. I’m not sure what Chelsea think they have but it’s not someone who’s compatible to the talent of Jude Bellingham.

It will take years of refusing to pay over the odds, better scouting and patience before we get rid of the United tax due to previous poor spending. Clearly no one is paying £70M for Mount with a year left... but because it is us, Chelsea will try for it.

Liverpool bought Darwin Nunez for £85 million (could raise to over £100 million, which isn't very likely on what we have seen so far ) but lets not just totally forget all their duds, just because someone on twitter reported they paid 35 million for someone's release clause.

They paid £65m rising to £85m with add ons which will definitely be paid as they’re pretty easy targets from what I recall even with him being as shite as he has.

Disagree. I think Chelsea’s new owners are as bad as Woodward. Remember how we dealt with Pogba.

You guys get so hung up on price.

70m for a guy that will be available for free next year while Chelsea need to sell for FFP? This is absolutely the right circumstance to get hung up on price.

Well, it is definitely grinding some people's gears. This is Frenkie de Jong price from last summer with an added bonus that many of us are a bit baffled how he fits in on top of some underwhelming performances he produced so far.

On the bright side, there is no way we give Chelsea close to what they are looking for imo.

Was about to make this point. £55m is overpaying in light of his contract situation, but it's a fair price for Chelsea and we're not trying to feck them over.

Just hope he doesn't turn out to be another Juan Mata who was also Chelsea player of year.

I’m walking away
From the Boehly’s in my life
I’m walking away
Oh, I’ll buy Idrissa Gueye

Macallister went for £35m anything above £45m is a rip off and I still dont want him

We should be nowhere near Mount, especially for the amounts quoted.

He’s the type of player that brings a bit of nothingness to the collective game of the team.

He can shine individually by a goal here and there, or a nice play sometimes, but he brings nothing to the global level of the team. I fail to see what he can bring to United except some depth, but I’d rather keep VdB or bring back Lingard on a free rather than splash £50m on Mount

Surely, if there was ever a transfer to show that you do business different to the previous regime, its this one?

United not desperate for Mount, can offer a take it or leave it £45m, if they reject it walk away because, he is free next year and I doubt any takers appear this summer.

We need to learn to walk away from a deal.
