70 million? Pass.

Even 40 is too much for him from what I've seen.

Get a stop gap for the season, and sign him for free at the end of the season. We can't feck around with FFP anymore.

We should walk away now, focus on other targets with an agreement that we'll take him for free next summer.

Still don't see how he fits in, if we play him and Bruno together there is still no ball carrier who would connect our defensive and offensive phase plus you call for being overrun in the midfield.

The more we chase him the more stupid we look, if we can't get him for a reasonable price just walk away and bring Rabiot and Tielemans for free and invest the money in striker, right back and centre back.

Antony should have been a warning sign. Stick to our valuation and if Chelsea are not willing to go lower, just go for another player. We cannot overpay everytime and Mount for 40m would be a good signing, but not for 70m.

We began pitch at £40? £40 should be our last price for a player of Mount's quality.

We should focus our energy and budget on a world class striker and goalkeeper, and a midfielder of different profile.

70m for an average player that's free in a year is mental meanwhile Liverpool sign a world cup winner for a world record fee from 2002.

Smart. They’re not going to get that money. They will just loose him for free by the looks of it.

I like to think we have other alternatives for him. There were barely any rumours before we moved on from Frankie and got Casemiro.

£70m is utterly ridiculous. Hopefully the club will have alternatives, or we play the waiting game and see if Chelsea get desperate.

Usually I criticise United for dawdling in the market, but time is in our favour this time. It plays to our advantage to draw this out, as we hold all the cards. Chelsea have to sell him.

If we've already agreed personal terms and he wants to sign for us just wait until January and sign a pre-contract. Stupid to pay the anywhere near the money they want for him now.

Was wondering how long it would take for the CAF’s favourite phrase to make an appearance
They’ll then criticise the club for being shit negotiators when they themselves run away from a starting price point

Forget him: caicedo 80m, rabiot 0m, Kim 45m, Hojlund 40m, Raya 35m should be our summer business.

Out: maguire 30m, McT 30m, Henderson 25m, Elanga 15m.

Ramos over Hojlund if we’re not getting Kane next year.

I can't believe we are doing it again. We've had such a terrible transfer window last year in terms of execution with FDJ and Anthony being the standout screwups. However last year there was an excuse that we needed to wait for ETH to join and then assess his squad...

But with a year for our scouting and recruitment arms to get their ducks lined up, knowing exactly the goals of the manager, and...

We are jumping into another unrealistic target in financial expectations from both sides. If we really have a difference of 30m on the valuation, this should never have made it to the press. If I'm looking for another AM, B2B option for the team, at 70m I'm sure there are 5-6 good options.

Admittedly this could be posturing from both sides but unless we are prepared to wait until August (and risk FDJ like egg on face again) we are not getting this guy for south of 50m

Come on let's not be cheapstakes. Atleast let's offer £100. The guy is a professional football ffs.

I have serious doubts over our scouting/recruitment team. Last year we had a long list of excuses about our transfer targets. But this year we had all the time in the world to identify a long term #6/Casemiro deputy, and a long term #8(Eriksen replacement). We have scouts all over the world to find players of these profile.

And our team came up with Mason Mount and Rabiot? Do these people even do their job?

I always wonder who is leaking these numbers and why? Is it PR from the clubs to prove they are going to strike the best deal they can? Or are the numbers made up by the “journalist”?

If Newcastle are interested in McTom(?) then take the money from that sale + 40 million = Mount (McTom could easily fetch 25-35 million)

Most likely mediators and agents who want a slice of the cake.

Yeah, i know Mount aint popular here but £40 is kind of a pisstake. Unprofessional even imo.

If 40m is our opening bid, I hope our final bid won’t be more than 40m + 5m add-ons

He is going to be free next summer for feck sake
Yeah let him see out the year and go for free.

Not worth 40 million as it is, and wants a fairly significant increase on current wage.

Not worth it.

70 million is just their anchor point and starting negotiation. Not sure why everybody is getting over excited about that figure.

We say 40M, they say 70M..... You meet somewhere around 55M. All pretty basic stuff.

If you don't meet around 55, then you walk away. Simple really.

Could rumble on for a while though. Pretty sure this deal will happen (At about 55Million). Probably a bit high for Mount in the last year of his contract, but if ETH wants the payer then the price isn't ridiculous and it's a good deal.

Why does WC winner matter? Otamendi and Romero ended up benching Licha and I wouldn’t have either of them anywhere near our team (ignoring Otamendi used to play for City). Mac Allister is a decent player but he’s not going to elevate them to new level and his fee is going to be £50m+

Let’s see where we are come end of the window. Last window was very good for us and ETH’s eye for a player was excellent. If we get Mount for similar to Mac Allister (£55m) it’s a good deal.

I’d be quite happy to wait till January and sign him on a free for next summer.

Not sure what Chelsea are playing at given their transfer business is a lot more time dependent than our own.

For £70m he’d have to be transformative with 1 year left on his contract that’s way overpricing a player.

£40-50m and even then £50m seems steep but something most could accept with English tax.

If all is true the club are doing the right thing not diving in here.

The fact a difference in valuations is now seen as a drama is stupid.

This always happens. The bidding club never in the history of transfers has said "I think your player is worth £x" and got the response back "feck me, so do I. This was easy"

And yet "walk away" we hear. Christ you must all be fine with us never signing anyone ever again
