Just walk away and make them sweat. Don't go back until late summer. He's going nowhere.

It depends what the add ons are, mount is not a better player
Let Mac Allister perform at the level he's done this season for a little more before we declare who he is and isn't better than. Last season no one outside of Brighton fans knew or cared who he was, now he is (or was, before Liverpool signed him) the solution to our midfield problems.

Most likely mediators and agents who want a slice of the cake.
Maybe.

I tend towards it being guesswork: Chelsea want about £70m United wiling to pay about £40m, clubs far apart, etc. That tweet could be written without any inside knowledge whatsoever and might be in the ballpark. I think £55m was mentioned quite a bit when this first came out and, coincidentally, that figure is exactly halfway between these negotiating positions.

Bellingham moving for 86m.

Mount isn't the solution to our midfield problems either. The main reason for comparison is Mount's attribute seems to be work rate rather than creativity (in deep midfield) and Mac Allister's seems to be the same.

F*** it. Let’s just pay them $700m.

Someone needs to tell Todd that Bruno Guimaraes only cost $30m. And Mc Allister just went for $55m.
And Mount only has a year left on his contract. And he’s average at best.

Have a valuation and Stick to it.

Long term it is the right approach...not that any of these quotes on twitter are remotely accurate or true...but still.

My favourite window will be the one where we call someone’s bluff. Too often we treat dime a dozen players like they’re superstars and it has a knock on effect on future transfers. Chelsea know we’ll hang around for a while yet due to previous summers.

Look elsewhere.
Average player, way too high a fee does not end well.

If that is true, I hope we wait till the winter window and sign him for £15m. cnuts.
He's a good player but we shouldn't pay more than £45m max, imo. Need to strengthen several positions.

Even 55m would be a terrible transfer. And if we somehow end up paying 70m on Mount, that's woodward-esque.

Surely there’s someone better for 55m? Our scouting team must be awful. They’ve got as far as London.

Why are they trying to price him out of a move? He only has 1yr left and they’re asking for £70mil, madness

it really is.
Imagine we just get Rabiot for free this year and Mount next year. Two free players (with sign on money of course) to solve our midfield

The profile of Mount is good as he's young and offers tactical versatility for his managers. I think it's important for United to actually build a team as opposed to putting together a team. With the age profile of Casemiro and Eriksen, adding Rabiot would be decent but somewhat disingenuous to having longer term approach. The team should be built to last the next 7+ seasons especially if stadium redevelopment is factored in it could constrain the future owners in the market.

£55 million would still be too much.

We must know this ourselves given what we usually have to do with our outgoing players.

We have a history of overpaying for players. We are easy pickings, so to speak, for both transfer money and player salaries.

Hes a good player, and if ETH think he will fit into the way he wants to play I'd trust him if he bought him. I think it all depends on the price.

As others are saying, call the damn bluff.

Unless Saudi come in for him, Todd is getting nowhere near that. This is one we should play the waiting game with.

Just move on. Even 55m is bit too much for him especially in his last year of contract. Chelsea can keep him for another year

Would much prefer Xavi Simons at half the price.

Yeah I’m surprised we’re not linked with him at all. Super versatile, bags of potential, will suit the intensity of the prem, bangs goals, Dutch+Eredivisie which as we know ETH loves.

I’d be very excited if we switched our attentions to him.

Judgement time for the new regime is here. Murtough got a free-pass last year because they were all Ten Hag targets or something. This year if he signs Mount for 55M and he flops then he should be done as DOF.

100%

Everyone and his dog knows we need to move on, yet we keep seeing more and more updates

It hasn’t even been a week since our last game! Why would we move on so quickly? Because you don’t like the player?

Tactical error here to show your desire for him. You need it to appear you’re doing them a favour late in the window. Could probably get him for £30m in the last week or so.

For all we know, the constant updates is just journos spinning yarn. You'd think people had understood how Silly Season works by now, but there's still those who pay attention to every update, take every single one at face value, then grow agitated because they get the impression the club is wasting time and chasing the wrong targets.
Debatable. We haven’t seen Mount in the Brighton system
It's just recency bias. Mount's waned a bit in the latter half of last season, Chelsea's been shite this season, and Mount spent a fair chunk of it injured, so now he's reverted to being average in the collective football memory (in addition to having been pretty harshly judged despite being very good under both Lampard and Tuchel.)

Meanwhile Mac Allister, who's only notable aspect before this season was being an Argentinian named Mac Allister, is now clearly the better player to people who likely haven't watched enough of either to state that with any sort of confidence.

Because we don't want to sell him and there's multiple clubs interested in him.

Look at the difference between this and what's going on with Kovacic and Havertz, who we are more than happy to sell.

Yeah. He technically has a year left on his deal, but he's open to staying and the club wants to keep him, they just haven't been able to agree terms. A lot can happen in a year, and I'm sure that if a move never materialises, Chelsea feel they have a good chance of convincing him to stay. So it's a bit more complicated than "one year left so should be cheap".
