I don't think we should view any one player as bridging the gap between us and City. We can easily fall into the trap of thinking a few players would have us competing on their level.
Why wouldn't a few players have us competing on their level? I mean, competing with them is the immediate aim surely? The expectation next season is to make a serious push for the title and other cup competitions.

We could get a bit closer to them on a short term basis but it will take a lot more before we win back to back titles and get to the final of the champions league.

£50m is the absolute maximum but really for being in the last year of his contract it should be £40m as a fair deal.

Exactly, more than 50 it would mean he is a 100m player if he had years on his contract, which I don't think he would be worth.

You’re probably looking at then 5 or 6 players and getting rid of some established names that are in the first team to really be at the level of competing for the title and champions league. Or to hope next season they fall apart.

Mount if he can get back to form probably be a solid addition and every little helps, I’m not sure he would be part of the main midfield going forward. Like say we are really in for Rice and say we manage to get both. Surely you’re midfield base would be Cas and Rice then you just let Bruno do Bruno things.

Mount would be pretty much a squad player. Nothing wrong with that he’d be a solid addition but if Sabitzer costs less might as well make that move permanent.

I don’t get why anyone would want MacAllister over Mount ? Because he played in a World Cup winning team ? Because he’s looked good at times this season ? I’m not a massive Mount fan but he’s shown consistently on a higher level that he at £50 million is a better buy than MacAllister at £45-£50 million.

As for where Mount will play I’d imagine ETH knows exactly where he wants Mount to play as ETH doesn’t strike me as the type to buy a player just to spend money, he’ll already know where Mount would fit into his tactical approach which I’d take a guess at moving to a 4-3-3 and Mount in Eriksen’s role as Mount has the engine to get up and down the pitch.

As it stands we believe Mount is coming to play as an 8,we are most likely wrong. The reason for mac allister is simply because he has is a proven 8 whilst Mount would be getting converted into an 8 if that's the position we want him for. If the 8 thing is true would you rather have someone we know has done well as an 8 or would you want to spend on someone we aren't sure would perform at that position to a high level.

Hes one of those players thats looks good but doesn’t seem to get the end product when in fact he actually does.

Chelsea are a shitshow and we need one of those players who looks good but doesn’t seem to get a lot of end product but actually can and will do in our setup, basically a hybrid 8-10 like pogba but an actual proper player.

He also could be shit but I don’t think he will be. Aggressive player with technique.

Feel like he will turn out to be a better Van de Beek.

Really feel like what this team needs someone with high passing volume and accuracy, as we just lack someone who is really elite on the ball in midfield. \

We have a Keane in Casemiro, we need a Scholes.

So if personal terms have been agreed, how much is this cnut taking home every week?

They are just waiting for more suitors. Cue some team from Italy randomly showing interest soon.

Chelsea need to sell some home grown players to compensate for the insane buying frenzy that Todd instigated . Selling Mount would help them immensely.
But £58million is daylight robbery, I wouldn't pay that if he had 4 years left on his contract let alone 1!

If that report is true, which I find dubious, there would be no reason not to get Caicedo instead. Get him and then see if Mount wants to sign at Chelsea. If he doesn't we can attempt for him next year.

To me there's no reason I would even contemplate anything near that figure for Mount when Caicedo is available.

There are two ways to play 4-3-3, when boiled down to its simplest definitions. With a regular triangle, or with an inverted triangle in midfield.

Against Spurs at OT, for example, we played with an inverted triangle with Fred pushed high. Likely our best performance of the season. The high press was superb. And Fred was magnificent. But he’s not consistent in that role. More often than not last season we played with a regular bottom heavy triangle with Casemiro’s partner sitting deep. The front press and the overloads suffered significantly as a result.

Mount would allow us to play a more aggressive front press and regularly give us more overloads in the transition. He also has the legs to get back, and the creativity to provide good service to the front players.

i can easily see why ETH wants him so much. I think we’ll be able to play his preferred system more regularly with two forwards thinking 8s. It’s why I prefer him over Caicedo.

Don’t believe a word of it but next summer could be a really cheap one for us at this rate

Maybe they might negotiate a price instead of walking away based on an ITK Twitter account? I dunno, could be worth a try.

Can’t believe the fees mentioned, come on. Get Sabitzer for 20 and make 100+ available for a REALLY GOOD striker

I don't think anyone is expecting an exact replication of what City have done, that'd be weird. But we absolutely should be competing for titles next season, assuming this summer doesn't go disastrously wrong.

Might be a case of him pushing for it, or waiting till next year.

Bloody hell. I am not getting into a muppet train for this guy (choo choo).

The FDJ ride was wild and funny and, Jeez, the prize was exciting (though we knew he wasn’t coming). We can’t do two months of “will we get Mason Mount?”, we’ll expire.
