Fascinating when the common consensus is he’s been rubbish when in actuality we’ve won the ball in the attacking 3rd more than any other team, had the second highest number of chances created and you realise without him we can’t press high any more due to his replacement in Eriksen having zero legs.
Yeah but that’s why I’m saying give Hannibal a shot. I’m not the person to give an impartial view because he is a favourite of mine but I think he can do the Mount job and, despite people saying he lacks maturity, I just have this hunch that if he is trusted to step up and take himself seriously, he will.

In any case, as you say, Eriksen can’t do it, much as I love what he did for us last year. He just can’t get about like he used to. (Interestingly, he still puts up good numbers for distance covered but, unfortunately , none of it is happening quickly enough to have any influence on the game.)

Our underperforming 70m makeshift midfielder is now injured. So what's the plan now?

I never thought when playing chelsea we gotta watch out for Mount, then we go and buy Mount like we don’t know who he is and what he brings. What a waste of funds.

Jesus Christ people, why dont you give him even a bit of chance?

Whats up with all this, he barely played and you all are about him underpeforming, being a dud, waste of funds, a pointless signing, not fit to wear the shirt.

I mean, what's up with this?

I've seen it all at the cafe but this is a new low.

He's been underperforming for a year and we're short of funds. Simple

Annoyed with the injury. It’s more exciting to see how ETH keeps developing the Bruno Case and Mount midfield than going back to Eriksen. Also frustrating that Maino is injured too or Amrabat hasn’t been bought, if we are even interested

I was kind of looking forward to seeing the Mount-Case-Bruno midfield fare better against a weaker opponent in Forrest. And then he got injured...

Let's hope Eriksen has got some of his legs back...

Or better yet, sign a CM or two before the Arsenal game...

We shouldnt have sold Fred without brining in a replacement

He's been injured most of the last year at Chelsea. That was one of my major concerns with him and i was surprised that most people just brushed it off as something insignificant.

I'm afraid we've got another injury prone player. Just one of the reasons i was against this signing. I wanted a deep lying press resistant ball carrier instead.

It is a reality of a modern fan mentality, pretty sad state of things.

I get what youre saying and dont think hes been bad as its been made out, but I think most expected something... more?
I dunno, it feels like he should have got on the ball more, maybe had a shot or two more. Its hard to say cos were disjointed and I think its not a good situation for United or him right now.

ive seen some nice stuff which has lead to chances, but at the same time, an issue for United is the amount they paid for him with a year left and the wages hes on.
A lot of that isnt Mounts fault, because I think most wouldnt have been as critical if he came cheaper or just came next year on a free.

The problem is the way weve used our resources to make him one of the marquee signings in a critical position. I reckon he will get better for us (especially when we have a striker added, who will actually move on and off the ball). I think that will help free up space for Mount to get into goal scoring positions.

I wasnt fussed either way whether we got him or not (I was more wanting to see the GK and striker position sorted first as we basically had neither). Third was somebody in the middle to dictate, and yeah... we didnt get him. Of course, if ETH was banking on Mainoo, that injury was a blow (and of course one or both of McT and VDB to go to get one more body in).

Isolated to Mount himself, he cant control the other things. Im interested to see how he of course performs when we have our striker playing and possible link ups.

It's not necessarily his individual abilities, which from what little I've seen is actually of a good standard, it's how he fits tactically and positionally in the team. That's more on ETH and other player personnel but I'll be interested to know how you think he can improve or show what he's shown before to change the situation? On the one hand, it's not really his 'fault' but the fact is we need more from everyone, him included.

Bruno and Mount being literally 10-15 yards away from Casemiro and not dropping deeper or fast enough on the ball is basically the main issue. Going forward and facing the ball has never been our issues in midfield, it's when the players have to go backwards and/or go to retrieve it.

The thing is with he very rarely played as an 8. He played there for one season in 2019/2020 and a bit of the following season where he and Havertz were the two 8/10s with one of Jorginho/Kante sitting. As soon as Tuchel came in, he reverted to a back 3 and that was it for Mount in midfield. He’s almost exclusively played in the front 3 for the last 2.5 years. He was pretty good for us as an 8 but I said in the transfer thread, he’s gonna have to relearn the position a bit and that’ll come from Ten Hag’s coaching.

Having watched United twice this season and once in preseason, Mount and Bruno do not look like they compliment each other. A different profile of midfielder might have been better to pursue (a FDJ/Kovacic type maybe).

Only been a couple of games though and he hasn’t been bad necessarily in either. So I’d give him and Ten Hag time to figure it out.

He was really good in the first half against Spurs. Actually his issue so far and this goes back to preseason isn’t what he does on or off the ball - he does it all well. The issue is that he doesn’t see enough of it. That needs tweaking.

I'm 45 years old. I assure you, this happened down the pub also many moons ago. It is not a new thing. Giggs when he was younger used to get dogs abuse from a lot of fans.

Interesting. Thanks for the insight, seems like United fans talking shit is not generational.

He's rubbish but, as he's new here, you're supposed to ignore the previous years you've watched him. His career pre-United doesn't count. I see it all the time on here and, after a season or so, the new signing shield breaks and everyone starts saying what was obvious a year prior. Like with Antony and Casemiro now as recent examples.

So Casemiro was crap last year was he?

I’m ten years younger than you but I remember the same with Fletcher. He got absolutely hammered from the fans until he had that breakthrough season.

I'm not quite sure what point you're making here.

Ah yes, the voice of logic. The guy who called casemiro washed up and he ended up being one of our best players of the season. If you call everyone shit, you’ll end up being right eventually.
