He will get booed by at least half the home supporters, let’s not pretend it will just be away fans. They won’t want that

Nah that would not happen - maybe a section of our home fans might but certainly nothing close to half, not even a quarter.

The bigger issue is the same kind of negative reaction to the initial announcement like last summer. This would have to be managed by the club who made a mess of it last time.

I strongly feel it would. But let’s say that it is a quarter. It’s still a bad look and those fans aren’t going to change their mind. A quarter of the home fans hating your own player. That’s not going to play out well. I don’t think INEOS want to start with a shit show

They'll quickly forget. People don't really care at the end of the day.

I wonder when INEOS will start the Greenwood good PR. There's no way they aren't going to try and bring him back when he solves two problem positions for us.

Aslong as they do a better job than the Glazers with the PR around it atleast there's a chance he does make a return.

I don't think our home fans would be an issue for Greenwood as much as many online act like it would be. It would be the constant attention from the opposition fans that would be tough to deal with.

I do want them to see if they can make it work though and if there's any questionable behaviour at all from him again that he's fecked off as quick as possible.

If he hasn't learnt a lesson yet he never will but I think he deserves the chance of a return to English football.

Greenwood will be back.
Stadium is going to applaud him.
All the drama will be just online with a few journalists and influencers trying to grab some attention by acting outraged.
I reckon 2-3 redcafe posters will dramatically announce they are done with United, then they'll inexplicably come back 1 month later, failing to resist the urge to call De Zebri or whoever manages us then a "fraud" after drawing against Ipswich.

It's difficult to gauge how far it will swing either way in terms of home fans. I think we can all agree though that it won't be all one way and there will be infighting with the club fanbase, as we have already seen on this forum. I think we can also all agree that opposition fans will be heavily critical, whether that is because they genuinely despise him or tactical.

Jog on. Are you trolling? If you honestly think it’s just a handful of people stopping poor little Mason from coming back you’re in dreamland

There’s lot of examples here from local fans who say that there are loads they know that don’t want him back. It’s not as simple as saying it’s just that lot from Redcafe

If he scores a couple of goals those fans will be chanting his name.
Those same fans probably wanted Qatari money so we could blow the opposition away in the transfer market while ignoring the way women are treated in the same country.... mind boggling!

Like I said it has to be managed properly by the club in advance - don't think many are suggesting that he's just bought back as if nothing has happened.

Thus ends the predictions of Not-so-damus.

Stop trying to tar us all the same. It’s not that simple.

again I think you might be underestimating the feelings of a portion of the fans - a portion who will not change their mind UNLESS clear evidence is provided that proves that he’s not guilty.

It if a significant portion of the fans are still booing his name, his touches etc, what do the club do then? Put him on ice till the next window? Personally I think they will sell the problem in the summer.

I think also with people saying he will come back...it will be the same as before...The Athletic/Other media formats will hear about it and start posting articles or feeding into socials and you'll have the same terrible PR cycle. Not sure if that's a smart move for INEOS.

That's inevitable and the new CEO and Sir Jim will be so under the spotlight, it would be surprising to me if they'd want to make keeping MG one of their big early calls.

Fans are starting to boo Antony now when he fecks up or when Martial cannot be arsed so if Mason gets booed initially but is a standout performer and scores goals that make a difference........I don't know.

After the first two lines I was hoping for a dramatic poem of some sort but it just slipped into foolishness.

I think from a business point of view it's a no brainer to bring him back. Already working under tight financial restrictions and need a few positions filled in the squad, if they manage to get good PR they've saved themselves 40m+ on a replacement

And if they sell him a homegrown player it will be pure profit which will have a huge impact on FFP.

And how much would it cost us to replace a player of his potential/ talent??
We have paid 73mil, 85mil and 65mil for attacking talents recently that are not in the same postcode as Mason.
Not really much else I can contribute on this subject so I will just wait and see how the whole situation develops.

Yeah sponsors will be queuing up to associate themselves with him.

We don't need another one dimensional right winger.

If this INEOS lot do their homework there’s no reason they can’t get a productive RW option for 40m or less

With a proper football structure I'd imagine most of our signings will be young exciting prospects in the 18-23 bracket at around 40mil.
Also don't act like Greenwood is pulling up trees in La Liga while facing a lot of average teams.

Watch what he was doing in the Premier League not so long ago as a teenager or have you just discovered football???

Hopefully Amad can fill that role.
If you think that clubs are not going to rip us a second one when selling their players to us then you need to revisit our recent dealings with Atalanta.

I would agree if not for the fact that INEOS seem to be getting competent people onboard

anyway I’m off to enjoy the Klopp news

Just like last time, the club will have an idea of fan sentiment long before he gets anywhere near the pitch and it can be managed.

The club need to put out much clearer statements with details of the internal investigation. Then Greenwood and his partner need to do some kind of interview/explanation.

Whether they want to go through this remains to be seen and you might well be right that they just decide to sell and move on.

Not a lot right now, because he's not the same level as talent he was when he was 19/20. Selling him is the most obvious thing to do as he's worth a lot in FFP terms and it's not exactly like he's going to transform us, he's yet to get back to the level he was at.
Us spending poorly in the past is not an argument to keep him.

You are entitled to your opinion mate but I do not agree.
Let us see what unfolds.

We're talking about a player who's got 3 league goals this season. Elanga has 4 in a far tougher league.

He'd been pretty much found out as a one dimensional RW before this all started.

Initially then he'll score a few and it'll stop.
Amazing how many of you think that, I find it a little ignorant because you’re basically saying that the group of fans opposed to that type of behaviour is going to change their minds or just shut up? It’s not a normal issue that will be forgotten about after a few goals. It’s bigger than that.

He will definitely get booed by some home fans initially, which will make it hard to even sub him on. There’s also no guarantee he will immediately score goals to elicit applause. It will obviously be much uglier at away grounds - vile chants, objects thrown, occasional pitch invaders etc.

From a brand point of view what has changed since the last adverse reaction?

Aye it's a huge gamble to think he will hit the ground running, and even if he does that won't placate everyone.

I think it's mostly because the folks saying that are transposing their own attitude towards the situation onto the rest of the fanbase. It has no grounding in reality.
