Disagree.

One of the major reasons our poor form is depressing is how it always leads to pro-Greenwood commentary.

Again, this ‘hard evidence’, wasn’t viewed as such by professions.

The case collapsed because of unspecified 'new evidence' and witnesses pulling out.

The CPS did not review the evidence and think 'innocent' the way United controversially did.

He doesn’t need to establish his innocence though to continue his career

At United he does as we were his employer when he committed his offences. They have to take appropriate action.

Not that you’ve heard at least.

We've heard him threaten his partner with rape if she does not provide sex.

Insinuating there is some 'mitigating circumstance' for such behaviour simply has to be substantiated, not alluded to. Greenwood cannot do this because, well, there is no mitigating circumstance, is there?

All you have is 'ah, but is it?' and the same arrant whataboutery the pro-Qatar crowd have on the Takeover Thread.

The whataboutery doesn't work, either. None of Ronaldo, RVP or Evans had anything but allegations about them, no hard evidence whatsoever. To imply they did on some 'ah, but is it?', just to excuse Greenwood, sets a dangerous precedent going beyond this case.

I do agree United ought not to have taken Ronaldo back, but two wrongs don't make a right.

Greenwood apologists are becoming even more emboldened and there has been a bit of push back.

Nope.

Apart from English media talking bollocks and apparantly God now being involved.
The Sun reported Barcelona, and or RM, are prepared to pay £40M for Mason Greenwood.

The character known as Caellum saw George Best play on numerous occasions.

The thread went downhill from there until Redlamb's summary above.

Thanks! Glad its not anything of interest then.

It’s so thick and short sighted. The team is playing like absolute shit all over the pitch but yeah one knobhead coming back will solve it. Even if you don’t think he’d fix everything he wouldn’t even make us better. The way we play is broken at its core and is the real issue that needs fixing. Add to that the massive pressure and abuse he’d have every game. Some people are just gluttons for punishment.

Is it rape if you didn’t rape them? Therefore what is there to hate?

Stay in your lane. Good try though.

I messaged you in 2021 telling you that you were on your final warning. You’ve had multiple since then and I think this is it. Thanks for being truly awful the entire time you’ve been here.

So what you’re saying is you never stick to your word.

(good riddance to that wanker)

Can't believe he lasted so long.

Any reason why this thread is so active over last couple of days? Spare me the hassle of waddling through pages of people begging for him to come back.
We keep losing. So posters want a player back that they would want nowhere near the club if he was average.

I think we'll know more in summer because his current deal runs out then but we have an additional year option we can exercise.

Even if we sell him, about £30-40m is the best we can get and if we're offered that amount, take it and run.

Nope.

How did God get roped into this debate again? 220 pages in it's hard to remember all the twists and turns.

God is everywhere, don'cha know? Behind every corner, working his mysterious ways, through his prophet Mason of the Green Wood

This is the best thing that will ever happen in this thread. Just lock it now. The only way is down

The Ronaldo case had a leak from his lawyers, where they gained access to notes made of his testimony from start to finish.

I’d argue it’s a much stronger source and harder evidence in revealing the whole truth than anything else, and more disturbing too (even if it doesn’t cut through like audio). He also, if not accepted guilt, accepted that he’d give her money to maintain her silence.

Agree two wrongs don’t make a right, but it also undermines people’s arguments when they say ‘it’s impossible for him to come back here’ ‘I’ll stop supporting the club’ ‘I’d never cheer anyone with those allegations made against them’ etc. Recent history has proved them entirely wrong at our club, as they do at others.

The crazy thing is, we know Greenwood had behaviour and disciplinary issues prior to January 2022. I really don't think he'd be a net positive for the squad or dressing room if he came back, knowing that we have existing disciplinary issues to resolve (Sancho, for example). For the love of god, let's just cut ties and move on.

Also...

There it is.

That's why he cannot ever play for United again.

He, facing hard evidence, cannot establish innocence.

He, not having a case to answer, being cleared by united, back with his partner, cannot establish guilt. Works both ways these arguments.

In purely football terms, we would benefit from Greenwood's return, quite considerably. He covers two positions where we need reenforcement, CF and RW. We'd able to sell Sancho and Antony, with Amad, Greenwood, Garnacho and Mount being our options on the right, we wouldn't need to buy a striker and all the money could be invested in the positions where it's broken like you mentioned. By the start of next season we could have one of the most talented front 3s in the league in Garnacho, Greenwood, Amad with a completely new midfield behind them, along with better defenders too. If we want to become a successful team again sharpish, keeping him makes a lot of sense.

I think he’ll end up back at United next season and Ratcliffe isn’t overly bothered by people’s opinion based on working with the parasites and some of his apparent business dealings, from a footballing perspective having a player who can play two problem positions to a quality level whilst not costing a penny is a no brainer.

I have a young daughter and I’d lose my mind if I believed those things were genuinely and regularly happening to her which is why I’ve never understood her fathers statements or the fact they’ve allowed her to move to another country on her own if they believed her to be in genuine danger.

We all know he has/had behavioural/attitude issues before January of last year and I don’t doubt there’s a degree of truth to some of coercive/controlling behaviour and maybe even some of the physical stuff but reality is they’ve moved on with their lives, it’ll be negative PR for us but we’re a fecking toxic club as it is.

it does seem like people in here either love rape or hate it.

He’s never been accused of that. But I accept ‘no longer alleged attempted rape’ isn’t as pithy.

I think bizarrely, many are here on a football forum, supporting a football club, wanting the extremely talented young footballer with no outstanding criminal case against him, who is paid by the club to play football for us, to actually play football for us.

Pretty simple when you take emotions out of a football issue.

agree. it’s pretty simple when you take the rape out of it.

you can dress it up however you like it, if football matters more to you than it does to me, fair play. but i don’t want anyone like him anywhere near anything i care about.

I'm not sure someone asking to take emotions out of football can actually care about it more than anyone else, can they?

Or maybe they just don't understand it.

i think it’s best not to understand it. you get in to the mind of a cretin and it’s a long road out.

There it is.

That's why he cannot ever play for United again.

He, facing hard evidence, cannot establish innocence.

The Crown Prosecution Service and the Police have revived the evidence and in their words have decided, there is little chance of a conviction. If there was hard evidence then they would not have dropped the case.

In other words were the case to be put before a court in the opinion of the Police and CPS Greenwood would be found not guilty.

Sadly by their actions the authorities have removed the one opportunity he had to clear his name.

In UK law you are Innocent until proven guilty and both the Police and CPS say there is insufficient evidence to prove guilt. You appear to be suggesting every one should be assumed to be guilty untill they can prove themselves innocent, sounds like 1930 Germany to me.

Not trying to attack you or anything of the sort but this paragraph makes me really curious. Why does everyone dismiss the family's decision or resolve in the whole matter?? It's all about Greenwood and the CPS. It's almost as if we have resigned to believing that the lady is incapable of being self sufficient or unable to resist Greenwood or that the entire family are perfectly ok with her being with him. These are the people who have intimate details of these entire case and seemed to have all moved on.

Who had that on the bingo card? I'm just missing a stasi comparison and I've got a full house.
