Plus making sure he doesnt get too complacent and too big for his boots. We have had way too many examples of teenagers who flopped after a meteoric rise recently.
From what I've read about him (I think Luke Shaw did an interview) he's actually so incredibly laid back I think he could do with a bit more arrogance. Perhaps this is what Ole is trying to do with such comments.

Huge praise from Ole, maybe he said Greenwood to avoid the question on Martial or Rashford. In any case, it's good to see club/Ole having so much trust on Greenwood.

Take it from me that he's a very grounded young lad. The swagger will come, but he has to prove himself first which is something he's reminded of constantly.

I also see it that way. Ole just didn't want to answer the question. If Greenwood is really a more natural finisher than Martial then he's quite something.

He's definitely a more natural finisher than either. Not even a contest.

Based on finishing vs youth goalkeepers?

How can we compare when we have only ever seen Martial finish vs top level keepers.
Based on finishing past David de Gea in training matches with Mason displaying a much higher success rate in comparison.

I wasn't there obviously but was told. So it's no surprise Ole thinks Mason is the better finisher because he proves it in training matches against Rashford and Martial.

Just a bit of muscle needed and he will be our CF for many years, as long as he keeps that low profile and work hard.

Yeah I mean those pre season goals don't count or anything do they.

The fact he's trained with them for over a year also, i'm pretty sure he's scored some goals in training too

Yep. I’m amazed people have taken it so seriously. Actually, no, I’m not amazed by that at all.

The nets are still the same size mate. If he keeps finding the corners it doesn't matter who the goalie is.

Yes and no. Top keepers have better reach and reaction time. Aiming is one thing and velocity is another. You need to finish quicker and harder at senior level.

Ole could've easily said that he rates both Rashford and Martial equally when it comes to finishing but he didn't. He actually highlighted that Mason is infact a better finisher. You bet both Rashford and Martial watched the presser.

If Mourinho said the same thing, he'd instantly be accused as throwing Martial and Rashford under the bus.

And Fergie said that Scholes was the best finisher he'd ever seen (until Rossi came along), didn't stop mean he didn't rate any of our other strikers.

Mourinho wouldn't even have Martial starting through the middle and wouldn't have promoted Mason IMO. He's also a cnut in comparison to a club legend like Ole.

Fooled me.

We are relying on two young players in Martial and Rashford who we all know certain fans will turn on in an instant if they do not perform for 2 games. Then it’s these same fans with zero patience who will start calling for 17 year old Greenwood to play and the cycle repeats itself.

It’s feasible that all three may not be able to handle the pressure that’s about to be put on them. I don’t think that means they are not good enough for United.

Who's going to do that?

I think everyone has way more patience for those two than a £80m flop who constantly talks about leaving.

Well wait for their form to drop and you’ll see. It will only take a few games.

It's actually very easy to see that Mason is a better finisher than both. Rashford isn't even close to the genuinely two footed Mason who can comfortably open angles due to his ambidextrous nature. Mason was levels above anything Rashford produced as a finisher in youth football aswell.

This sentence needs to be banned from RedCafe.
Because of the implied political stance you mean? Or because it somehow says that United is not great anymore? Or? Well I am not a big fan of the sentence itself, but it's a nice pun.

You're the one who called Martial 'the most over rated player at the club' during preseason and have constantly criticised him for a very long period of time. You shouldn't talk about patience when you've already labelled him the most over rated player before the season even started.

No crystal ball and this lad looks very special but too early to be making comparisons or talking about being 'better' than....

I’m not saying he is a bad finisher or anything, he seems class from the little I’ve seen, it’s just Martial had the best finishing ratio in the entire PL last season. I think Ole just didn’t want to answer the question.

Yeah, I was thinking same. It's like pot kettle black thing. For 2-3 years he posted so much nonsense about Martial and then talks about how fans lack patience when it comes to young players.

Not seeing progression in a player for 3 years is not lacking patience at all. In fact I said if he worked on his movement and work rate he’d be a top player. I don't know who you are replying to as I have them on ignore.

I am heavily supportive of our youth.

I'm glad you saw the irony in his post. He constantly attacked Martial on here for a long period of time but is telling people the two forwards aren't afforded the patience by fans due to having zero patience and will turn on them after a couple of bad games.:lol:

Yeah, not just this. His posts when Martial wanted to leave compared to Lukaku is even hilarious, and even more considering Martial barely said anything to media whereas Lukaku couldn't shut his mouth.

Anyways back to the golden boy, hopefully he will get lot of mins against Wolves. They will defend deep, so need players like Greenwood who can take on players and can go both sides to create chances and score goals.

Nothing surprises me about his posting style anymore. I've accepted he's a Mourinhoista and players like Shaw and Martial will be criticized because Mourinho didn't like them. Whilst Lukaku will be praised because the Belgian would run through a brick wall for Mourinho.

I don't think so, I think he wanted to give a youth player some positive reinforcement while giving the other two some friendly competition to raise their game.

We all know that those two have to be more clinical this season if we're going to get a top 4 spot.

Martial made his first team debut 6 years ago. Equally, Rashford has been a mainstay in the side for several years, having already got over 30 caps for England. These aren’t kids anymore. They know the pressures of playing for Manchester United and for their national sides. This isn’t being thrust upon them.

Ole said that Greenwood’s finishing was better than the two aforementioned players, that’s it. How can that we considered undue pressure?

Even though he never did, he just loved to say that he would...

If Greenwood has to come in for Rashford and Martial and does not hit the ground running it becomes difficult for everyone, that’s my point. We have all seen Martial’s and Rashford’s fluctuations in terms of form.
