He was the best player on the pitch against Aston Villa no doubt about it. He has incredible awareness and football understanding, which is why he is so deadly in the build up. He knows whats around him and he knows to keeps things simple when that's the best option, however if there is space to turn and create he'll do it quickly with such conviction and technical execution that it always lead to some sort of advantage for us. Similar trait to what Bruno does through the middle. We've seen him run play like this in the U18's, but never seen this level of playmaking, which is a bit nuts and he is learning every day. He was so far beyond his teammates in the U18's and now that he is playing with players more on the same level you'd expect him to shine a bit more as a result, but he looks far on his way to surpassing these players already which quite frankly is insane.

Said it the other day, but the player he reminds me of is Messi. If you took his finishing ability away from him, he’d still look a potentially very top class attacking player. There’s so much more to come from him. I can see him potentially being the heir to Messi’s throne.

Never in the 15 or so years since Messi broke through have I mentioned a young talent in the same breath until now. That isn’t to say he’ll be better or as good as Messi - but I think he has a chance of being the closest thing to him in the next generation. He’s totally flawless.

I noticed you said that, and while I wouldn't be so brave to say it out loud myself I totally get what you're saying and I don't disagree. It's just that thing of being such a natural footballer you learn everything much quicker than others and most things become second nature after a short time. Just imagine him as a young ass kid, some coach asked if he could do it with his other foot, he probably couldn't, next week he came back and viola.

His shooting technique is so good that defenders and goalkeeper become irrelevant, its like he is shooting in an empty net! Its crazy,I have never seen anyone make it look so easy besides peak Ronaldo perhaps

It reminds me of early Shearer, hit the ball early and hard and the keeper isn't set. It makes it look like half the shots should be saved but the goalie hasn't had time to move.

Many say that he looks like a young Robin Van Persie but i see something else. He has a certain power in the shots and drive, confidence and ease of getting past players, he reminds me of a certain Brazilian striker that did 3 against us at Old Trafford some time ago.

CR7? He's far less efficient in front of goal. Tends to take more of a carpet bombing approach rather than laser guided.

Yeah my bad.. remembered how wasteful he was on goal! I guess I was remembering some of his clinical finishes.. Anyway point stands about uniqueness of Greenwood

People will compare them for instance Greenwood v Rashford, Martial v Rashford, but for me they are all good players who can help United win things. Everyone brings their own qualities to the table but we all have our favourites. I like Greenwood the most because of his razor sharp strikes, confidence ,calmness and not over the top goal celebration. He oozes class and I hope he has a long career at United. I have followed his progress in the academy from 2018 and its nice to see him finally realising his potential. He is the kind of talent that pops up once in a decade and we are lucky he is a Manchester United player.

I noticed how deceptively quick he is as well last night. Not lightening but the mass he put on has certainly improved his physicality.

He looks like a brand new signing - unrecognisable from the boy before lockdown to the man that now seems to be not only scoring but influential in our attacking impetus.

My favourite thing about his goal was not the actual finish but the space he picked up just in that half-pocket outside the area between the centre-half position, sensed the space, first touch to control, second to knock it onto his right and get it out of his feet and hits it with obscene power and accuracy in one seamless motion - it's so natural for him that if you take away the ball then he's moving as anyone would without a ball at their feet. His two-footedness adds a dimension to his game I've never seen before. Ever.

How do you defend a player who if you back off, is fully capable of finding the target on either foot and if you get tight has the technical ability to go past you or hold it up to bring someone else into play. He is an absolute problem and I'm so glad we have him.

The answer is you don't hence why he scores so many. The only way is to double mark him but then that frees up Martial or Rashford.

Funny you mentioned that

Definitely see similarities with Brazilian Ronaldo. He has that raw explosiveness and lightning shooting ability that catches keepers off guard.

He's going to hit 20 goals for us this season
There’s actually a chance he ends up our top scorer this season, he’s on 16, only 4 behind Rashford and Martial.

Read my posts, I rate the kid really high, but please stop the stuff with R9. He was on another level and I don't see it in Greenwood yet

R9 was the best teenaged striker, ever.

Greenwood is comfortably looking like he will be in the top 5 over the past 2 decades.

There is an interesting point regarding xG - stating he has had only 3 clear cut chances and should be on 3 league goals statistically.

Well, for the record I hate the xG logic and its forecasting. I am completely off the opinion that football is played on the field and not on the stats but however it reiterates that he will go through a period where he wouldn't score this much. He is just explosive now and people still can't figure him out. That's the reason why we got to sign Sancho as well.

Didnt expect much of his first season as the transition to the big boys is often hard on young lads and they tend to blow hot and cold.
Boy am I glad to be proven wrong, this kid is special.
His goals remind me of scoring in fifa on easy difficulty, you just shoot from the edge of the box, hard, and no one is ever able to stop that. It seemed possible to me but Ive never seen anyone attempt it in a real game. Greenwood seems to have mastered it.

Magic.

Unless Mason out performs the model, which is not beyond the realms of possibility. Remember xG is the product of a model that says based on what most players have done in these circumstances the outcome should be X or Y. However, there will always be one or two players who are better than most. Greenwood may simply be more talented than the bulk of strikers and therefore find it easier to score chances that most forwards would miss. Based on his performances coming up through the ranks, we have some reason to believe Greenwood is a generational talent who will beat the model.

Some overperform to a degree but nobody is clinical over a sustained period like Greenwood is the point. Important not to use xG incorrectly. Ronaldo hits pretty much right on xG over his past 5 years. Some like Messi overperform to like 20%. Everything is going in for Greenwood right now, which obviously won't go on. But hes also getting more minutes, more important roles, and making more for himself and others so his xG will shoot up as his finishing normalizes.

Defending against him must feel like defending against R9. The moment the ball touches his feet he’s on a mission to demolish you. You never want anyone to pass him the ball.

I really really wish Rashford would pick up that trait. His dribbling, conviction and ball control is miles behind Greenwood’s.

Special talent, he'll be a world beater.

His finishing with both feet, especially those on the short posts, remind me a little bit of Ballack in his prime.
