Martial | Di Marzio thinks he will stay

i can't understand people in here.

it's says a lot that he's choosing to leave rather than stay and fight for his place ( if the report are true).

he's a big prospect, an excellent player, still inconsistant but excellent in his day but if he prefers to leave have a starting place elsewhere, so be it. that's the first season where there was competition for him and he's leaving. people should be angry against him, not against the manager.

If i had to choose between him and Sanchez, it will be Sanchez all day long. we are in this situation because the previous managers haven't been strong enough in their decision. Jose came and there's no sentiment. you fight for your place or you don't.

I would echange him for Dybala or Griezmann if he wants to leave. even though i would prefer him to say.
As someone said he wants to be a starter, but I cannot see which top club would do that. The top clubs already have world class players in his position. He might have to go to a lower CL club or a EL in a top league to get playing time.

To be honest, it'd be quite weird if France dropped him from the squad just because he hasn't played in the last few games. He still has got significant game time with us this season(1346 minutes vs 1738 minutes by Pogba in PL). If he is as good as we all believe, he should definitely make the French squad. Not doing so would merely indicate to me that they don't rate him as much.
Deschamps said he needs to be playing regularly to get a call up. Since the start of March he's played 103 minutes for us and is unlikely to play much more. His stats are pretty good in comparison to his competition too:

He had competition with Rashford at the start of the season and won out. He was on a good run of form then Sanchez came in and immediately took his position on the left. I can't really be angry at him for choosing to leave after that. He's not going to get a place in the team on the left over Sanchez.

Could see a move to spurs happening.

Would make a lot of sense. You get Rose to improve your LB position, assuming he still wants to move back North. And Martial gets to work with a coach that will improve him and give him every chance to break into our first XI.

Martial was my favorite player at United by a fecking country mile.
I am heartbroken.

In terms of money spent he's probably cost us what? Around £30 mill? I reckon we'll get close to that for him, maybe slightly more. It'll be nowhere near the money dons are predicting and no way on earth do we get a straight swap for the likes of Dybala.
Jordan Pickford went for £30m. No chance will it be that low.

Hope he finds a new suitable club then. We don’t need players who wants to leave. Let’s be honest, Martial may be very talented, but mentally, is he "there" ?

That would be an awful deal, rose is peaked/peaking and these days seems injured a lot more than anything meanwhile gifting one of our top prospects to top 4 rival. The deal only makes sense from a Spurs perspective.

France have Coman, martial, fekir, thauvin, dembele, Lemar, mbappe, griezmann, payet and others who are basically competing for a spot on the wings or as the 10. Some went make the squad because you just dont need them. Martial is a terrific prospect, but so is dembele. So is coman. So is Lemar. Mbappe is the most promising young player around and at the highest level currently and performs for France whenever he plays. Griezmann is world class already. They rate him, they just have a crazy amount of options to choose from so would sooner pick players who are playing consistently for their clubs then one who is in and out.

I agree that its a tough ask for Martial to be starting every game for them, he should definitely be making the squad and that's how it has been shaping up in terms of his selection, etc. And its not like Martial has been a backup option for a long time, he has played almost half the minutes de gea has played in the PL this season.

That would make zero sense, never happening.

We might, but that's never a certainty.

It would be frustrating, because we all know how talented and how much potential Martial has.
Then it was up to him to show more. He has at times, but other times he looks uninterested. The top players have worked hard to get where they are, too many kids think they should just have it handed to them. If you start a game, make it impossible for you to be dropped or taken off. If you are on the bench, don't sulk, go on and make it that you should be starting. You get lots of knocks to your confidence in football and it is how you deal with it. He seems to let it weigh him down.

Martial likely wouldn't have set up 3 goals quite like Alexis did.

Martial is not a better performer than Alexis. I cant believe this is even being discussed. He doesn't touch the left wing spot when Alexis is fit.
Thanks for that unsolicited thought.

You saying Martial needs to learn from Sanchez' performance at the Etihad is ridiculous. What reference point would you have used if we had this conversation prior to Saturday?

And to humor you... Assuming Pogba starts in midfield:

-------------Lukaku

Sanchez-----Lingard-----Mata

Based on form over the past few games.

Emotions? You got me confused with someone else.

So Martial gets nowhere near your starting 11 - hence
Some of us do. And Pereira and especially Gomes have shown nothing at the very top level, whether they'll make it or not at United is still very, very much in doubt.

Sanchez has been anything but consistent for us so far.

Sanchez moved in January. It’s been 3 months. Martial has been here what? 3 years?

Pinch of salt with this article as no one in British gutter press was saying shit until Boufhasi broke the story.

I suspect he'll not swap the United bench for the Spurs bench. He'll move if guaranteed game time imo.

Terrible news if true. Still hope that he somehow changes his mind and stays, as it would be a huge mistake letting him leave.

What does it say? I hate when people use this weak argument as if players are supposed to take everything all in the spirit of proving themselves. please.

Pogba left because he knew he was good enough, became a start elsewhere, then we had to break a transfer record to bring him back.

Yeah they massively overpaid. We've probably spent around that on Martial. His max price was rumoured to be around £50 mill with all the clauses, but I doubt we've got near that.

This last year or two has massively hurt his rep, plus losing his place for France and looking equally as frustrating for them. I think we'd get £30-40 mill max.

So far the best post in this thread when it comes to judge Martial overall contribution.

My take on Anthony is similar. Amazing talent but his focus isn’t allways 100%. Probably a win and win situation if we recoup €50-70m to reinvest and he gets more game time in another league.

Despite saying all above I think we should calm down a little bit. I think there’s a good chance he stays. Contract negotiation is a factor to remember.

Yet he contributes in goals and assists at a better rate than our main striker who plays pratically every minutes of every game

This is also forgetting he came here to be a striker and had the no9 shirt taken from him.

Well, if he can't get a chance in his prefered position over Sanchez, then would it be a big loss if he leaves ? we either want the best, or not, he didn't show enough to be played over Sanchez. even if the latter hasn't played well till recently.

I would wish him the best he he leaves, i have no problem with that, it's the overeactions of people here that's baffeling me. The meltdown is worthy of a matchday thread.

We might as well risk losing him for free and see how he progresses if we're going to accept such a small fee.

So we are back to slagging Lukaku off again are we?

Who is slagging off Lukaku? The poster made a point about Martials contributions in terms of goals and assists, yet Martial isn't a regular and not playing as a striker yet his PL contributions in goals and assists is better than Lukaku.

The notion that Martial hasn't been contributing at a good enough rate this season is a joke.

Rose is a more than good LB. If Mourinho doesn't want Martial - and/or if Martial wants out - then you'll lose him to some club or other anyway .... so why not improve your LB spot in the process?

But if you think you will get a better LB than Rose this summer, then so be it ... but many a player has looked good elsewhere, only to flounder in the Prem. At least with Rose you know he will do the job and do it well.

So should Martial be playing instead of Lukaku and not Sanchez as seems to be the sticking point?

We cannot and should not sell Marital to spurs, I am sorry but no.
