I look at this as a positive sign.

If he's not signing a deal with us it's because:

A. We're not offering him enough money
B. We're not guaranteeing him the starts he wants at this stage of his career.

A indicates B anyway in terms of status at the club.

With that in mind, it suggests that Mourinho views him as a backup player following next summer's transfer window and if that's what has been holding up his contract then it also explains why Mourinho has gushed over him being one of our most important players these last 6 months.

Mourinho would absolutely love to keep him as a squad player but I guarantuee he also has plans to bring in a top bracket midfielder to play alongside/instead of Pogba and Matic.

Was about to write something along those lines, agree 100%. I'm happy if we replace him with a top midfielder, he probably wants a last big paycheck and play more, given that he's been in good form recently he's got a decent negotiating card with some smaller clubs.

Classic brinkmanship. I only hope it is the club who stands firm throughout the process. They should hold the aces and should not cave in to the demands of a player who, for all perceived improvements and contributions, is far from irreplaceable. Fellaini must know this. There should be a desire to improve the squad with hungry, talented younger players, rather than extend the already substantial contracts of ageing and limited incumbents.

It is obviously complete sense to retain his services until the summer. He is more use in that regard than a few million in the bank not being used. Ultimately I feel he will probably sign, primarily because Jose adores him. If that is what Jose wants then he generally gets it.

 - Rejected by Fellaini. We're right mess at the moment. Mourinho will be off soon.

I reckon end of the season, we'll hear more and more murmurs of his discontent at how the club is run and how he's not happy with Fellaini etc leaving for free, by March they'll be more frequent.

United triggered a one-year extension in Fellaini's contract in January which bumped his salary up to £120,000-a-week but he is free to negotiate with clubs in the winter transfer window
His salary rose to £120k a week after the one-year extension, and he still turned down the new contract offer in September! So he wants a long contract with +£120k a week salary? :wenger:

Would sell him in january, has had more bad games then good, not sure he really brings anything to the side would rather let Axel play in CM then him, just cant be trusted for me. we need better players and keeping players like him aint going to get us any better

Get rid. Just bring in a replacement that can actually play football this time round.

Or he want's 4+ years and we are only offering him 3.

We shouldn't be extending his contract.

Far too often we keep players around who aren't at the level we require.

We should be aspiring to build a team that can challenge for the Champions League one day, and Fellaini isn't the answer. Sure, he's had some good games, but he isn't the answer to our problems.

Sell in January if we can re-call Pereira, if not let him leave in the summer for free.

Agreed.

Absolute joke of a player, my heart sinks when i see his name on the team sheet. Should be no where near our match day squad and the sooner he leaves the better.

So Simon Stone, James Ducker, Jamie Jackson, Samuel Luckhurst, Neil Custis, Rob Dawson, David McDonnell and Simon Peach reported the same story at the same time. Was that an unofficial press release by the club about Fellaini?

Extend his contract for as long as possible. He’s very important as a backup/plan B player.

Well, then good luck somewhere else. We shouldnt fight to keep a player of his calibre. Rather give Pereira a chance or invest in someone new. Let's move on

I'd love to keep him as a squad player, but it's not going to be the end of the world if he goes.

Let him go, would rather see us give Pereira a chance and move on from our ‘if in doubt, lump it to Marouane’ tactic.

This is bizzare. Is he and his agent playing hardball or what? Why would he turn down a new contract here and go to Turkey of all places?

Win, win. He's 30 and we should be getting someone better in next summer. Thanks for your unorthodox and sporadic contribution big Fella, you were absolutely just about okay in the end.

Problem is we will end up bringing in a player who ends up being worse and on a longer contract - The New United Way

More money, longer contract, guaranteed starts, love of kebabs, sick of rain... plenty of potential reasons.

Good opportunity to offload a player who is not good enough. Just because the last few years have been difficult in terms of results and performances does not mean that we should become used to mediocre players. Cannot fault his effort though.

At his age I imagine he wants to play as much football as possible. Not likely to happen with us. I doubt it's a case of money / contract length.

Will be the longer contact for sure. Don't we have a procedure that players over 30 get 1 year extensions? If he has been offered 3-4 year elsewhere then that could be the reason

Excellent news. No way he should be getting a new contract. Reminds me of when Ashley Young had a brief upswing in form so we offered him a new long term deal even though he'd been mediocre for years.

Thanks Fellaini, I'll follow your career in the Turkish league.

If he wants to play regularly, he should find a new club and we will be pretty happy for him.

If so, that's a good thing. We have more than enough deadwood in the squad without risking the accumulation of more deadwood.

Whoscored is saying that he's joining Besiktas for 8m in January?

More likely that Jose will move to Turkey than Fellaini.
Fellaini, is Pogba's sub, when Pogba gets injured, so there is absolutely no way Fellaini is going anywhere.

I do agree in principle with your post, however you can see from Ashley Young and Fellaini that they have a good attitude and determination about them. Shame that doesnt rub off on players who have more ability eg Miki

Too much noise here that can't be anything except true. Well good luck for him next season. I'll miss watching us playing long balls for him during the last 15 minutes. :(
