He's our only viable option for our plan B - hoofball football - to which he's our main goal threat too. Often does his job well when coming on late in substitution, top commitment.

Other than that, he's probably one of the worst midfielder around - prone to mistake, headless chicken, very bad passing and poor technique - basically everything midfielder needs he's bad at it.

After the game, Mourinho told Sky Sports: ‘I thank Fellaini for unbelievable effort. He trained only yesterday and made himself available today.’
‘I have to say Fellaini was fantastic for us, for fans, teams, club,’ he said.

‘He was injured for weeks, trained first time this week but he put himself on the line today. ‘I don’t want to let it go without praising him.’

Based on your opinion only. In my book, Bernardo or David Silva wouldn’t do much better than Mata or Mkhi at United.

Give me whatever you are smoking!

David Silva would slot into the no.10 spot with ease under any Mourinho team. You're talking about someone that was one of the first names on the team sheet for the Spain NT in 2012.

Great to hear. Fellaini has been and will continue to be an important player this season.

He was shite but clearly not properly fit enough.

I still don't think he's good enough for Manchester United, but you have to praise his mental toughness and desire.

There's a lot of weak willed fannies at the club at the minute but he isn't one of them.

Do you even realise how good a player david silva is or has been for city? I like mata but even then I cannot say he is better than silva. Let us not put our red tinted glass for everything. Silva and kDB would walk into any team in the pl

Hopefully the love affair ends this season and we move on. I always give 10/10 for his efforts but like young, lingard , he should not be trusted so much.

I have a feeling that Mourinho excessively praises Fellaini in the press just to annoy them. He has done this at every club he's been - he looks at the tabloids and picks out the players that they usually have a go at and then he goes and says stuff like this.

He's trying to balance it out. He's protecting his players.

I think on the weekend comment about Fellaini, he was trying to send a message to his players that he likes players who is willing to put 100% efforts whether you are fit or unfit.

even if he made clumsy mistake, his overall game wasn't that bad actually , chelsea was forced to sit deep when he is coming and doing his job

Give it a rest.

We have Martial, they have Jesus. We have Mata, they have Silva. We have Lingard, they have Delph. There’s not much overall difference in the quality of the squads. Nearly all of our players start for their countries.

Crazy talk. So is the problem José then?

Are people really saying Fellaini is a better player than Herrera? I am fecking done! :lol::lol:

Fellaini can only be "more useful" in a hoofball playstyle we seem to play more and more recently. But actually saying that Fellaini has better footballing skills/ability than Herrera? Bloody hell! This place has gone bonkers.

Fellaini mania has been steadily picking up steam over the last few months and i think those 2 goals against Palace and his subsequent absence (players always get better when they are injured) has sent some people full steam ahead into full on delusion mode.

While understanding his limitations i actually like Fellaini for the most part but there is some ridiculous guff spouted in here on a regular basis.

I must admit, I did laugh when he picked up a yellow card within minutes of being subbed on.

He was on the pitch for just 30 minutes, in that time he made two massive clumsy mistakes and elbowed someone almost instantly for a yellow card.

He's surprised me this year and has been very useful, but let's call him shit when he's shit. Hell, the guy was clearly unfit too so he even has that excuse.

in that 30 minutes being match unfit :
He was more threatening & cause more trouble for chelsea than
Mhki
Lukaku
Lingard
Martial
And everyone else bar rashford

Shows how shit our team actually.

Should only come on as a Plan B up top, no respectable team should ever have him in midfield.

Don't think anybody claimed Fell was a better player than Herrera. But there can be no doubt that he has been better for us this season. Way better as well.

Herrera is a better player, no doubt about it. However, this season Fellaini has been 100x more effective in every single department.

Oh there definitely was, just look a page or two back some were saying Fellaini was twice the player and one even said 10 times the player. Ridiculous really given that Fellaini and Herrera can't really be compared directly.

not sure why herrera is better footballer , he ain't better than fellaini on the ball, only have 1 pass which is hit the ball as hard as he could for valencia to chase , weaker physically , not fast either and his attacking contribution non existence

did he could dribble pass player or did lot of key pass to justified "better footballer" ?
we watch fellaini showed more roulette , juggle, chest control, and difficult flick on with both head and foot, showing more technique than herrera ever so i don't understand why hererra is better footballer , based on what ?

more passion and moan than skills. there is reason why spain didn't bother to call him up despite being our POTY last season
poor-man kante

I don't agree with most of what you have said but if you go back and read my posts on the subject i said if someone thinks Fellaini is a more effective and/or better player than Herrera , thats fair enough an argument could be made for that, but saying he's twice the player and the even more ridiculous he's 10 times the player is pure exaggeration.

I will say purely judging them as central midfielders theres really no debate to be had Herrera is much better in that position Fellaini's strengths lie elsewhere at either end of the pitch. Herrera is probably in his worst patch of form since joining the club and some people as some do seem to be judging him entirely on this season.

Anyway this is a Fellaini thread so i'm not getting into an ongoing Fellaini vs Herrera discussion.

I agree with what @stevoc says.

Just because Herrera has been out of form this season doesn't make him a bad player. Same can be said of Fellaini and his up and down form under Moyes (and van Gaals 1st season). People love to jump to some sort of conclusion but life doesn't work like that. Both are very good footballers, with a particular set of skills, Herrera is just better at what he does than Fellaini. And I've been very vocal in defending Fellaini ever since he joined. He just isn't better than Ander.

In context, I'd say neither are very good footballers.

They can't kick a ball where it's meant to go very well and they're midfielders.

Fellaini was a very important player that first season as well. Maybe a win against West Brom will remind you. You can say he isn't better than Ander based on walls of text and analysis but the fact is every manager here has trusted/wanted Fellaini more than Ander. He is more important to us and simply a better player.

I like Fellaini and have always sided with him since he joined but, honestly, he isn't better than Herrera. The Spaniard was brilliant last year and one of his standout performances was against Chelsea where he tore them a new one. I'm yet to see Fellaini completely dominate an opponent over 90 minutes for us. Yes, he has popped up with some incredibly important goals, FA Cup QF, SF, LC SF, CL qualifying etc. but it's always up and down with him. He looked impressive against Chelsea (going forward) and I truly believe that we'd have beaten Liverpool and Chelsea if we had him such is his importance to us, currently. If he continues this form throughout the whole season, I'd be considering viewing him closer to Herrera not just yet.

We have Pogba and Ibra out. If you line the squads up, they’re pretty equal.

De Gea/Romero > Ederson/Bravo
Bailly/Rojo > Stones/Otamendi
Walker = Valencia
Mendy > Young > Delph
Toure = Fellaini
Matic/Herrera > Gundogan/Fernandinho
De Bruyne = Pogba
David Silva/Bernardo Silva = Mata/Mkhi
Rashford = Sterling
Ibra = Aguero
Lukaku/Martial > Jesus/Sane

Injuries fecked us, that’s all. Pogba’s injury affects 5 players in the team.

Ridiculous, my body got AIDS by reading this. Kind of thing you hope isn’t seen by other sets of fans.

Fellaini was a threat when he came in.
He almost scored.he did an excellent job overall.

First of all, he didn’t almost score - the keeper was in the way and that was never dangerous. Secondly, he played Chelsea through on goal twice, by doing stuff he isn’t equipped to do. In fact, his passing and technical level is on par with a Divison 8-player

Their forwards are better.

Agreed. Fellaini could have well assisted Chelsea to score a couple.
