Possibly, the holdup or rather impasse is that we are wary of offering a 4+1 year extension to a 29/30 year old, learning from our Rooney experience. Fellaini must want his last contract to be long and fat one (who can blame the fecker). I think the club should look to sell and recall Perreira from his Valencia loan. It just does not make sense to pay so much money (earned on overall length of contract) to a player who is not even first choice for a manager who is supposed to rate him high. I mean what if Mourinho fecks off to Paris after completion of his three years. A player like Fellaini is not every manager's cup of tea. I think the club should overrule Mourniho and politely enjoin him to concentrate on coaching. Fellaini is no way indispensable and will never be a top player.

Ferguson would not have touched Fellaini with a barge pole,we have had, much to Fellainis good fortune 3 cautious, scared to death, pragmatic, proverbial rabbits in headlights managers who simply did/do not truly fit the ethos and traditions of the club!!!

I think you're incorrect with the bolded part, Jose loves Fellaini, he runs through brick walls for the manager and if reports are true, Jose is the one pushing for us to sign him up to a new deal.
He loves him as a squad player. If he wanted him to stay as our key performer, I don't think that Fellaini wouldn't have signed the contract - which would be pretty generous, considering that we pay Lingard 100k.

I don't mind Fellaini but gutted?
I like the guy and I think we’ll be worse off without him.

Herrera and Matic have been woeful together. Pogba’s back but if he gets injured again, we’re fecked. Fellaini filled in extremely well for Pogba before his injury. McTominay is probably the only player we have that’s similar to Fellaini.

What kind of wages can Turkish clubs offer?

Apparently he earns 120k per week, can he really earn much more in Turkey or in Russia? I wouldn't leave United and move to Turkey just to earn another 20k per week.

I think they can, considering he will be on a free transfer. They can give him much better offer because there is no transfer fee involved.

I've never been Fellaini's biggest fan, wasn't a fan of the way he was signed or what that meant for utd. Sign of where you are as a club if you panic buy and overspend of Fellaini.

We all know he is not utd quality, never has been, never will be.

BUT, under Jose, he has shown his uses as a squad player, he has earnt Jose's trust through hard work and solid performances. This season, he came in for Pogba and done a decent job, when he has missed out, I'd say Herrera has done worse than him. If fit, right now I'd probably select Fellaini ahead of Herrera.

Whether we can sign a better player or not is pretty clear cut, of course we can. What is worrying is that we are letting a contract of one of our regular squad players run down like this (we all mock Arsenal for the ozil/sanchez situation and we are doing the exact same. Also worrying that Jose clearly wants him to stay and the board cant make it happen.

Now we don't know whats happening behind the scenes, maybe Fellaini wants to leave for a bumper contract? Maybe Fellaini's demands are so high the board are playing hardball? All if's and buts at this point.

We should have renewed last year to avoid this. Biggest concern is Jose getting the hump with the board, we all know he loves a drama and a whinge

I'm pretty sure the optional year United put in players contracts is so they can either let them go or as in the case of Fellaini activate it and then you have a year to negotiate a renewel.

With Fellaini he was originally brought in as a big money 25 year old signing to be part of the first team with wages to reflect that. Fellaini obviously want to improve upon those terms and/or another 4-5 year contract but United now see him as a 30 year old bit part player. There lies the problem, United could easily keep him by just giving him whatever he wants but the club have to be sensible with the wage budget. If they cave into one squad player then they will end up overpaying everybody in the squad.

He's no Keane to be making demands. If anything he should be thankful he has the opportunity to live the dream and play for the club, despite his lack of talent on the ground.

Don't assume, it's isn't flattering. Nothing since Moyes left has suggested that United see Fellaini as a bit part player up until and including the current month. If anything, stats show he plays as regular as anyone else and has contributes to the team.

Christ this isnt like the situation Arsenal are in losing Ozil and Sanchez their best two players. This is Maro f*kin Fellaini. He has, and never will be good enough to take Utd forwards.

I just saw a headline on sky sports that we are in a fight to keep Fellaini. The guy should be greatful he gets to play for us. I know this will just be media rubbish, but hell if the offer was on the table he should be thanking his lucky stars David Moyes couldn’t get any of his other targets and had to settle for the big man.

Frankly I don’t care about how much the club pays anyone. They are all overpaid anyway. I’d rather people like Fellaini and Herrera get what they want and give 100% than guys like Di Maria.

Yeah, Ferguson was more of a Fabio/Park/O'Shea type in midfield manager.

All Premier League winners, something Fellaini will never be.

He's improved this year (aside from reverting to type and almost giving two goals away within minutes of coming on against Chelsea), but improving on terrible isn't enough to hold Utd to ransom.
Ship him out, replace him with quality, move on.

Yeah, at the current rate neither will Martial, Zlatan or Pogba but it doesn't make them worse players than those Premier League winners.

Also, holding to ransom, Jesus  Glad to be reminded that this thread can be a massive cesspool, was too nice here when he's played well enough.

He trained in only one training session before the game so how can you blame him ? He wasn't fit at all but he gave his 100% as usual.

And yet the club think differently. I know who I trust

Written from a previous conceived agenda!

The only fact imo is Fellaini has given the club much more than the so known super stars like Depay, Bastian, Di Maria, Falcao.. etc. No one is saying he's Scholes, but it's annoying to see him getting slaughtered continuously when he's giving us 100%, something many players who our fans were drooling over didn't even do, not even gave 50% of what they could.

Eh, they really don't mate. It's easy to check how many games each player starts. Pogba started 49 games last year, Herrera 44 and Fellaini only around half that at 27. With Matic coming in this year that certainly won't change, before his injury Fellaini only started 3 games.

Sure with Pogba's injury he would have started a lot of those games where Pogba was missing. But when both Matic and Pogba are fit Fellaini will only be a back up to Pogba but not Matic as he can't really play as a defensive midfielder. So his game time will be way more limited than it was under Van Gaal and probably even less than last season. Fellaini probably sees this himself and it could be why he is thinking of moving on.

Mourinho will most likely give him a 10-year contract just to troll.

Exactly. And he gives more than some of our current “Caf darlings” in the squad aswell. The likes of Shaw, Mkhitaryan and even Martial looks like he’s half assing it most of the time.

Fellaini always looks like he’s up for it.

Agreed.

If he wants to move for more money so be it, I dont care as long as someone is brought in to replace him - preferably an upgrade

If Fellaini continues to play at the level he did recently, we will start both him and Pogba in a 4-3-3 and ditch our underperforming #10. You don't simply drop anyone who can score goals, and he's scored a few in his purple patch.

over a period of time, he is unlikely to maintain any type of scoring form. He isn't Lampard. If Jose wants to go 4-3-3 with Matic Fellaini and Pogba, I feel our attackers will be starved and we will struggle to have any sort of control against good midfields.

Big if, he's been fairly inconsistent over his time at the club. Yeah if he continues to score when he returns he might well push himself into the team, i can't see it happening though personally.

I have read that he is demanding 130k to 150k per week which is a joke considering Harry Kane makes 120k. I would let him go and replace him. If Jose needs a tall powerful midfielder that's good in the air we could get Savic. Savic can do everything Fellaini can do and is a technically superior footballer. Savic can play as an AM or replace Pogba when he's resting/injured.

It's his last big contract, can't blame him for holding out on his last pay day, the signing on fees elsewhere will be huge. But I really hope he stays, the money he wants is standard for us these days, he brings something to our team not many others do, we will be weaker without him.

No teammate of Fellaini will win a PL either, such is the style of football he brings to the table. It’s José’s fault, but removing the tall one would be a blessing.

Anyone in this forum would ‘give 100%’ or ‘be up for it’.... doesn’t mean we’re good enough to play for Utd either.
Comparing Fellaini to Martial though, what are you even on?!

You’re right. There’s no comparison. Fellaini has performed better in more important games than Martial.

Martial still has a lot to learn.

Apart from the former statement being pure bullshit you've got absolutely no idea whether the style you detest won't continue post-Fellaini but with the target man being somebody other, e.g. Lukaku who's not half as good at this particular style and as a result we'll look even worse than with Fellaini. Fellaini has been out for a month or so, have we played beautiful tippy tappy football without him in the side and stopped playing it long? Don't answer me, answer yourself.

I said he's not Scholes. We can argue with his technique as a footballer all we want but a player who gives us his best every time he plays needs to get some respect from fans. Slaughtering him continuously is annoying and a thing our fans shouldn't be doing.

Deep. I've answered myself, I'm right.

The number of games in which Fellaini has been good is higher than the number of performances where he's been a liability.

He's a class squad player for a top 6 club although he will never be good enough to start regularly. Surprised so many can't see that.

He's obviously nowhere near Martial though.

Will be disappointed if he leaves. He can be a great weapon to have when things don't go our away and we struggle to score.
