You're having a laugh mate. He did fecking nothing on the player.

Refs should see through this BS. It's embarrassing. Gives football a bad name.

I wonder if you'd be this forgiving if it was Smalling instead of Fellaini. Fellaini was foolish, Aguero baited him and he took it easily

He's guilty of being conned, but don't tell me headbutted anyone.

Aguero initiated contact.

Now if the ref was booking him a second time for the tackle, then that is another conversation.

In that case I can agree that he is naive to get stuck in right after a booking. Herrera did something similar this season against Eden Hazard and got sent off.

But the hard part is that a quickly taken free kick can result in a goal if it takes the defense by surprise. Fellaini was taking responsibility for Aguero, and I'm not sure it would have been a booking for the same tackle at another time in the match.

Fellaini really does make it hard to like him. We all know he's not the most talented player in the squad, but he clearly gives his all unlike a few others.

Every now and then he even has a good game and you think maybe he's not that bad. Then in his next game he either has a stinker or does something stupid like today. So frustrating.

Course I would. Smalling wouldn't have played as well as Fellaini did today for starters. Aguero would probably have at least 2 goals in the bag if Smalling was marking him.

The point is, no player should be play acting. It should be a red card offense. Its embarrassing to watch and football is really becoming a pansy sport. That "headbutt" (and I use that term loosely) was nowhere near strong enough to bring a man down. The refs should be stricter with their decisions. If someone does what Fellaini did, it should be a warning NOT a red card. They need to start giving the benefit of the doubt and if it was infect malicious, use the video technology to implement a ban AFTER the game is played. Simple as that.

He deserves it on the basis of being such a moron to put himself into that position. He lost the head. Plain and simple. Whether it was a head butt or not, he left it wide open to look like one. Idiot. Had to be pulled away then. I hope he's feeling pretty embarrassed right about now, he should.

Agreed.

If Fellaini didn't make that second tackle and City scored, everyone would be slating him.

I don't even blame him for the red card. The ref is a fecking idiot and Aguero is a cheat. Plain and simple.

Had been genuinely quite decent in the last 3 or 4 weeks. But ruined it today.

Shoddy performance underlined with stupidity. Didn't affect the result, but daft nonetheless.

Lost his head and got suckered tonight. Even though it was a joke of a situation he made it easy for the referee and let us down.

He jerked his head towards Aguero's though. Red card all day. He's gotten away with that kind of nonsense in the past as well.

You really think one of our players wouldn't have reacted the same way if Kompany or Toure had done something like that?

The 2nd tackle on Aguero is not an actual tackle. Aguero either trips on his feet or simulates he has been tripped and dives. Either way it was not a foul nor a 2nd yellow. This is what got Fellaini so incensed. Aguero purposely goes looking to con the ref and succeeds. Fellaini though should have never leaned his head down against a master thespian like Aguero he has been doing quality con jobs since he has been in the EPL and he gets better at them year by year.

Fellaini playing for United is somewhat similar to Moyes managing our team. They're doing the job in a way, however both of them are nowhere good enough. This analogy even transgresses to divisions across our support. Like father, like son, but what the hell is Mourinho smoking that has clouded his mind enough to adopt this Omen-like brat. It's hipsterism at it's worst.

The reason he had to make that second tackle was because he was mouthing off to the ref asking why he was being booked for the first tackle.

Smalling took Aguero out of the game in the reverse fixture last season. Have you forgot the 1-0 win? Smalling is unbeaten in his last three against City, with a goal and two clean sheets. Fellaini was SHITE. Hope he gets sold this summer

Wish he had just slapped him hard across the face instead. At least that would be worthy of a red card.

Aguero walking straight into him, knowing exactly what he is doing. Score all the goals you want, i'll never respect players like that (to me it's as bad if not worse than diving, something else Kun finds great joy in).

Fellaini should have obviously been experienced and smart enough not to get into the situation.

Its probably the daftest red ive seen since Smalling against them lot (probably worse given the way it happened).
He was unlucky to get the first yellow given everything that had been let off (and being out of position the ref allowed a quick free kick).
but when that second free kick happened, all he had to do was walk away cos ref is going to let him off for that. To do what he did was absolutely daft.

He was absolutely stupid in what he did and cant be defended. Aguero played for it and he fell right into the trap. Ridiculous stuff.

I thought he had a relatively good game by his standards - right up until he didn't have a good game anyway. The headbutt was obviously very soft but he only has himself to blame, he got wound up and reacted and can't blame anyone but himself.

He really really just isn't good enough for a club with any attacking ambition. The missed pass to the Rashford (by missed I mean he was too scared to even attempt it) run was just a perfect example.

The worst thing I can say about Fellaini is that he was naive. He gave a cheat an opportunity to cheat. But how the feck can random people in the studios be harsher on him than Aguero? Only one of them actually did something wrong, and that wasn't Fellaini. Have we given up? Have we actually accepted that the cheats are okay to cheat?

(Disclaimer: I thought Fellaini wasn't very good today, and he's obviously got away with lots before. The sending off today though was a total farce.)

Frankly the being drawn into an altercation with Aguero was the least my concerns. It really pisses me off that he doesn't have the slightest courage to play a simple forward pass on the counter. Denied Rashford and Martial several opportunities because of it.

The only mystery deeper than why Jose keeps sticking him in midfield is how he manages to set the bar for playing in a Manchester United midfield so low that lots of people say he's 'okay'.

He's a terrible central midfielder. And thankfully, he won't be our central midfielder for at least the next few domestic matches.

Could be the nicest man on the face of the planet, that doesn't mean he should be starting football matches for us.

You can add that he's a terrible passer of the ball, immobile, scared to do anything but the bare minimum, hardly ever scores or assists, a liability when defending and just generally oafish and stupid.

He's been here 4 years, 4 seasons of Fellaini playing regularly for Manchester United. I mean fecking hell.

Don't know about that to be fair, it was Aguero running with the ball again and we've got two other CMs in the middle or Darmian on the left. I think that when Aguero went deeper for the ball, there was no clear instruction who should deal with him.

Every time i start getting behind this clown when he puts a few good back to back performances in, he just shits all over us. Feck him. Get rid.

I have calmed down a bit but how anyone of our fans has anything good to say about Fellaini is staggering. I don't get this argument that he has been playing well lately? Playing well in what way? And against who?

Real Madrid
Barcelona
PSG
Bayern Munich
Juventus

These are the clubs I want to be on a level with again, and I am sorry but Fellaini wouldn't have a hope in hell of getting anywhere near any of their squads. I always thought Cleverly was terrible, Fellaini takes it to a whole new level.

Hopefully in the summer Mourinho will address this position and get rid of Fellaini but I don't see many clubs clamouring to take him off of us.

Pogba is probably the only one who would get into any of these teams. Herrera may get into the current Barca team too but only because they are shit in midfield now. A prime Barca wouldn't even have pogba in the team. The likes of prime toure was surplus to requirements there.

I thought he had a poor game today, but in my post I obviously refered to the red card.

Fellaini would get into the Juventus team and probably the PSG one too.

Juventus had the likes of Bendtner, Zaza and Pereyra in their team. PSG has the likes of Stambouli etc.

Fellaini is better than those players.

If we were to listen to offers, I'd imagine Napoli, Roma, Milan etc would be interested. But I wouldn't be surprised if Juve came in with an offer either.

Don't think Mourinho will trust him again after that. We all know that Mou needs players that he can trust with his eyes closed and Fellaini let us down big time today.

Pretty much agree. Aguero was the one moving and Fellaini bit.

He moved his head towards Aguero about 5 yards in front of the ref. You don't need to knock someone out cold for it to be a headbutt. Aguero made the most of it but Fellaini would have walked even if he'd stayed on his feet.

I've defended Fellaini in the past but think it be best for all if he moved on. He's a limited player but has offered something to the squad as a different option against a certain opponent. I've given him a break in the past because he's been the easy scapegoat, sometimes unfair criticism.

However, he's a dirty bstard and has let us down at a crucial time of the season. Granted we didn't lose but we are short in midfield, he lost control completely tonight. He has always given away unnecessary fouls in bad positions in the past but this is different. That was a lack of discipline and temperament. I don't mind a nasty player or two but this is different, it's not like he compensates with quality and this is a one off. His elbows are always swinging. We have had players like Cantona, Scholes, Keane or even Rooney who have got stupid red's but they done more than enough to help us decide games to forgive them. Fellaini unfortunately hasn't, Augero played his part but Fellaini is no victim. Hope he leaves in the summer, that midfield needs a big revamp.

Depends on the rest of his performances this season. People are writing him off to quick because of this one incident. A decade or so ago we would be proud if one of our good players did this, the only problem is Fellaini's no Roy Keane or Cantona level player to do this and get away with it without no stick.

I honestly think you need hot headed players, but he needs to also match it with performances in the Europa. Hope for his sake he makes his head (literally) useful again in Europa, we're basically forced to play him now.

Absolute stupidity and doing it right in front of the referee just 20 seconds after being booked.
He's not a key player for United and he should be replaced by a quality midfielder in the summer.....he provides nuisance value, nothing much else !

You're repeating what I said in different words: Fellaini was naive, Aguero was/is a cheat. We agree. (But if you call it a headbutt, we very much disagree.)

Yes, Fellaini doesn't really fit Man Utd profile. But you can't really criticize him nor Mourinho. You can't blame Fellaini for being a terrible player cuz its the club who gave the contract. You also can't blame Mourinho. Who does he have anyone to play in the middle? He just had no other options.
Fellaini did let us down, but there were no other alternatives in the first place. The only solution for this is to have the right recruitment in the summer, so let's get on with it and get behind The Special One to do the job. Statistically we still have an advantage to finish top 4 & favorites to win Europa
