Mario Mandžukić

We should be building for the future in a long-term rebuild - it's a signing that makes no sense. If you're a finished team that needs a plan B on occasion, yeah but with our squad it's a bizarre one unless it's part of the Dybala/Lukaku deal and it's a sweetener on our part to take his wages off their books.

We already have players for the future, in Martial, Rashford, Chong, Greenwood and Gomes then we are linked with a 25 years old attacker. What we lack is a reliable attacker that will bridge the long and short term.

This lad will give the team a bit of grit when required. Always liked him. Probably a bit beyond his best but a quality addition to the squad.

I cannot believe this.
Ridiculous.

Dybala I can understand.
I cant cant understand people who can't work out why we may need a plan B and an experienced player up top.

Perfect back up.

Mata won't stay beyond this contract he has.

In fact if we sign Dybala I really don't think Mata will start more than 5 games.

Sanchez we're stuck with until it's cheap enough to pay him off, or until a stupid rich club abroad takes a punt.

Mandzukic I'm less bothered about as we've had older strikers in squads in the past who have done no real harm. Zlatan, Sheringham, short term Larsson etc.

Probably true about Mata not getting another contract after this one, but that still takes us up to 2022.

Don't see that the Larsson situation is at all similar really - my issue is with the medium term effect on squad composition, whereas Larsson was with us for, what, about 12 weeks?

Not sure the Sheringham situation is comparable either - we weren't carrying any aging passengers up front at the time he was here unless I'm forgetting people.

Doesn't affect Gomes whatsoever and when Mandzukic is 35 and about to leave Greenwood will be 19... ?

Young players are definitely more impatient these days, Gomes has played with Sancho at youth level. It only takes one glance at him to realise if he's not going to get it at United he easily has the talent to go somewhere else and play.

Gomes is good enough, especially when the competition is Mata or a mid 30's Mandzukic. Reminds me of how Pogba left also.

I like this signing. With the age profile of our forward line we need this kind of player. We also need a bit of shithousery in the side as we are a bit too nicey nice at the moment.

I don't get how Mandžukić is a competition for Gomes exactly?

Worse than Costa. Come of it.

He's a bully, a classless brute. Mandzukic has nothing to offer for Manchester United, he can't even score in Serie A. Ibra was old and slow too, but he still had the technique to make difference for us. This Mandzukic guy is just a c*nt version of Benteke - if Juve insist on this transfer as a part of Dybala deal then fine, but we would be stupid to take him otherwise.

This guy is essentially our new fellaini then?

Plan B, just Bring him on if we need a goal and a player to give defenders problems.

How exactly did that video prove anything other than him being a good player? You're blabling basically.

think that may be it.

This isn't really good for Gomes/Greenwood tbh.

I think it’s perfect for them. He will add the experience we need and his age will mean that their route into the team will not be blocked like it would be if we signed another youngster like Kean.

Greenwood is going to get plenty of game time in multiple positions. Gomes on the other hand needs to hit the gym. He’s not physically up to the rigours of the PL yet.

I get what you're saying but Gomes is in competition with Mata as you said, not Mandzukic.

Mandzukic would be coming in to give some much needed steel to that front line as they are all weak willed and so inconsistent.

Going from pre-season, Gomes has mostly played as a LF? I think that's where Mandzukic has been played for the last 2 years? Also doesn't look good for Greenwood in that respect.

Great deal Mario + Dybala , he can be our Ole/Teddy supersub. Clinical striker we need him.

Yes as a LW though I see him more as a #10 which I am sure most would agree.

And again, Greenwood is only 17, he needs to be in and around the first team training but playing for the U23's

Martial and Rashford can not be relied upon either.

Why are people so upset? He is a class player who gives us something we dont gave.

Unlike Lukaku his hold up play is brilliant.

Im very happy about this one. He gives us needed options on CF an RW

We need one of these “bully, classless brute”. Even if he is not a prolific goalscorer, he is everything what Lukaku was not for us; a striker who will dominate the oppo CBs. I think he’ll be a great plan B to have.

What about Dybala? Everyone in favour of this move seems to be forgetting we're signing him as well.

Mandzukic would be bad news for Greenwood, not Gomes.

It's the dumb new contract we gave Mata that is the problem for Gomes :(

Mandzukic is the player that Mourinho should have fought for in 2016 and 2017, he is/was the closest thing to Drogba.

"Clinical striker" who didn't score more than 10 goals in his past 4 Serie A seasons, playing for world class Juve side, against Lasagna Calcio and Spaghetti FC. Right.

He is a much better striker than Rashford and I think Solksjaer who knows a thing or 2 about strikers may have just realised just quite how limited 'Rashy' actually is..
