Mario Mandžukić

Could this be the end for Sanchez? They both play off the left or as a striker. As does Martial. Cant help but think Sanchez is done. No way we're benching him for the season but a loan or low fee sale I can see..

seeing sanchez in that photo back at Carrington with Lukaku makes me think they are both off. God I hope thats true.. swapping them 2 for Dybala and mandžukić would be the best business done for years

He's been a really good footballer for years, but his age would be an obvious issue.
If we sell Lukaku and get him and Dybala id be happy.
If we just get Mandzukic and money I'm not sure we've got a great deal for Lukaku.
As people have mentioned though, his wealth of experience could be critical, and he certainly offers something different to Martial, Rashford and Greenwood.
There is no way Mandzukic comes here without Dybala, Juventus don't have any money to spend and they need this deal to happen to actually comply with FFP.

I dont think he is done.

Ahh fair enough, didn't know that.
Is that the main reason they're so happy to shift Dybala? I just assumed Sarri didn't fancy him.

If few months ago someone told me we're swapping Lukaku for Dyballer and Mandźukić... Now it's real possibility and a massive deal, which won't encumber United as a spending force whatsoever.

Safe to say, I'm excited.

Offers something different. If he comes I think we are going to see what quality really means in forward play. I like our sense of realism is thrown off a little, when arrives you are going to see by how much even at 33....

I'd take that deal in a heartbeat but find it hard to imagine Juventus wanting to add Sanchez's salary to their wage bill.

I think so, I read that the deal will be done so Juventus can extend the cost on their accounting books of Lukaku over 5 years and make it seem as if they receive fresh funds from Dybala's sale. Someone with more knowledge about club accounting can probably explain it better than me.

They are probably adding in Mandzukic to sweeten the deal, because it seems like we are kind of making them a favour by agreeing to such an operation.

Sorry, I dont think I made my self clear. I didnt mean to imply that Juventus would want sanchez included into the deal. But from our perspective, getting Sanchez and Lukaku out and getting Dybala and mandžukić in to replace them would be great business.

Ah right, got you. Still, not sure who else would want to take Sanchez's wages at this point. Best hope seems to be a Bale-to-China type deal but seems like a long shot so I think he's likely to be with us for the foreseeable future. Fingers crossed though!

While I admit is a good adition to the squad, but a bit underwhelming transfer in terms of ambition.

I’m all for this. He’s incredibly annoying for defenders, a smart physical workhorse, aerial threat, good technically and decent finisher. Strikes me as a player who will still be useful at old age. Good option to have.

He isn’t starting for us. We are just adding experience to the inexperienced front line. Plus he apparently works hard for the team. Sometimes that sort of attitude is infectious on the pitch. Nothing wrong in keeping him for a year.

This.

He gives us something different up top that we don’t have.

I've always admired his athleticism and smart play; however, his age is a real problem. He could be a real bust coming to the PL at his advanced age.

He's a stop gap until Greenwood is old enough to take over.

Mandzukic is the classic "His club fans love him, rival fans hate him" player. Incredible work ethic, one of the best defensive forwards in football, great hold up play, great aerial ability and scores crucial goals. He absolutely has the mentality to inspire the younger players in squad and as a back up option on the left and up top he'd be a great signing for the short term. We need a bit of a bastard now that Herrera has gone as well!

Fully agree.

For me, the only worry is his injury last season after which he didn't look quite the same. But his game time should be reduced anyway and I think he will give us at least one good year from the bench or as another option in attack.

Yeah would best for both parties to have him leave. I just cant see how he'll play for us again if mandžukić comes. Even young Angel Gomes played off the left a few times during pre season.

China would give him silly wages. Wont happen now though as their window is shut until the new year.

Not a great buy if true but if it means we get Dybala and won’t have to see Lukaku play again then I’m all for it. Might still have a lot to offer

All of the people throwing hissy fits about this clearly don't understand football. You can all be forgiven though because I'm sure once he's here, he's going to be a huge fan favourite. One thing I'm absolutely certain about is that the two years we get out of Manduzic will be looked back on a lot more fondly than the two years we got out of Lukaku. This hard bastard is exactly the kind of player we could do with in this squad, the kind of player we would have liken Lukaku to be, full of fight, a leader and a big game player.

I expect he'll be particularly useful for us in our quest to win the Europa League, exactly the kind of experienced player we are going to need to get us over the line when the pressure is on.

Those of us who remember signings like Henrick Larrson and Blanc realise how clever a signing this has the potential to be. Hes not coming in to lead the line, start every game. He might get 20-30 appearances a season and chip in with 10 goals but his experience will be invaluable above all else. Hes exactly the kind of person our squad lacks.

Those worried about how this signals something wrong about the club have got it completely the wrong way round. This is the right thing to do. This is clever business. Hes an option to change things up. Think Fellaini but with far superior ability and intelligence.

The recent gen should remember, christ we had Zlatan come in and do a very similar thing albeit with a much more successful outcome.

You don't understand football if you don't rate Mandzukic.

Not sure I get that comparison - seem to remember that Larsson did come in and lead the line, starting up top for us in pretty much every game in the short time he was with us.

I couldn't care less about the progress of our youngsters until we as a club get back to the top. When we do get back to the top then we can start giving out great opportunities to young lads. Mandzukic will come straight in and be a threat for us upfront. No bullshit, no settling in, no pressure. He will be great imo.

Is this going to impact us getting Dybala? Please say no. Please say no.

Hmm, maybe I'm just getting cynical but I feel like we've had enough old stagers who were going to come in immediately elevate us with their experience and winning mentality to start to feel a bit sceptical. The same things were said about Schweinsteiger, Ibrahimovic and Sanchez. So when people are dead certain that these veterans are going to be a success I can't help but feel there's a bit of thinking that past success guarantees future performance going on.

I think he’d be a great option alongside Martial, Rashford, Greenwood and (hopefully) Dybala. Five versatile options across the front that can push each other into form.

It would probably spell the end for Sanchez and eventually get those wages off the books.
