Mario Hermoso - Free Agent

Being able to cover LB is a nice perk but I'd imagine he's not a forward going, overlapping one ?

He's like AWB at tackling but does it standing up. Really tidy player.

I'd feel a lot more comfortable getting a signing like this done before the start of the season if it means we don't have to see Martinez cosplaying as an inverted full back again.

I know Mazraoui can supposedly play LB but if he is covering two positions whilst being susceptible to injuries himself, that doesn't bode well for the coming season. Luke Shaw still doesn't appear to be fully fit either.

On a free this is a no brainer. Allows us to move on Lindelof AND Maguire and gives us breathing room with the dodgy injury records of some of our defence.

Please sign immediately and get in a stable LB. Shaw and Malacia are unlikely to play 10 games combined this season.

I thought he was an alternative to the Bayern guy. Getting him additionally will be great. But that’s only if we get in a centre mid and a forward.

Totally agree, we move on Lindelof and bring this fella in for free, solid and highly experienced CB who can deputise for Martinez or even provide serious competition if needed and can cover LB too.

De Ligt Yoro Martinez Hermoso Maguire and Evans is sufficient for an entire season of Domestic and EL football

Id be surprised to see this happening now that De Ligt and Mazrouri are on the way.

Still wouldnt say no though.

He looks quite decent and it will allow the club to shift Lindelof, whose contract is expiring. That would have already been easier had Yoro not gotten injured for half the season. If Lindelof is sold now and not replaced, the team would be too short on CBs for the foreseeable future, considering how susceptible to injury the backline is.

If a reasonable signing fee and wages can be negotiated, he'd be a smart addition to the team.

Free cover at left back and centre back which would allow us to move Lindelof on to bring in a bit more money is a no brainer business wise, Malacia has been out for nearly a year and a half with no signs of coming back whilst Shaw is struggling to be fit for more than a few games at a time.

Yeah my reasoning as well behind not saying no.

West Ham bid £30 million last year for Maguire but it was his wages that were the problem, we could make him available for £20 million this summer to offset the wage issue.

Same with Lindelof as we could make him available for £10-£15 million just so someone could afford the fee and his wages, getting some money in and the wages off the wage bill is better than nothing next summer for either.

We’ve got Martinez, De Ligt, Yoro and Evans whilst we could be bringing Hermoso in on a free also so getting say £30 million in for Maguire and Lindelof whilst shifting £350K a week off the wage bill is just good business.

Apparently we are leading the race to sign him, if true then this is a big indication that rumours of Lindelof's departure are true.

As I’ve said previously, this looks like a good freebie considering his abilities and experience.

So therefore I’m expecting Chelsea to sign him out of nowhere all of a sudden.

Definitely think we'll need to part ways with Lindelof before he comes or our defence is looking bloated all of a sudden.

Bringing him in and selling Maguire and Lindelof is a great way to free up some cash to spend elsewhere.

Hermoso in
Maguire £20m
Lindelof £10m
McTominay £25m
Sancho £40m

Then we’ll have enough for Ugarte AND maybe another forward player or even, dare I say it, Frenkie

I'd love this but I'd take 20 for McT and 30 for Sancho just to speed up the departures.

Maguires also worth 25 to 30 in my books.

But those sales would mean we could really get a top player in as a final piece go the puzzle

We’ve been linked with Ugarte and Toney so that would be great. Let’s see.

I can't decide if I would prefer two midfielders or Ugarte and Toney, obviously in a dream world we get all three but that's not possible

Personally think we're pretty well-stocked in CB with De Ligt, Martinez, Yoro, Maguire and Evans, assuming Lindelof leaves. I'd rather put the budget towards a midfielder this window, or a top CB next season.

He was heavily linked to Napoli recently

There is no rush with him anyway

This one is experienced and covers an area which torpedoed our season last term; LCB and LB. Just getting rid of Lindelof for this guy would make us more stable because we don't know whether Martinez has completely recovered and we know that Shaw isn't reliable to last a full season.

Only one left-footed CB in the squad and only two left-footed senior fullbacks - all three are injury prone (and both fullbacks are currently unavailable for unspecified periods of time).

I agree that the priority now absolutely has to be midfield, but if a left-footed player able to cover LCB & LB is available this summer for a price that doesn't impact the club's midfield plans, I can see the logic in pursuing a deal. Hermoso could be that player.

If we can replace Lindelof with Hermoso and it's essentially cost neutral or even slightly profitable surely that's brilliant business?

Far better at centre back and good left back cover.

I can understand this perspective but I'd rather we strengthen our midfield this season.. As long as we manage to bring in Ugarte I'm okay whichever way the club decides. My personal preference would still be to bring in someone like Rabiot who can make a bigger impact in the first XI because Mainoo's still young.

Yeah would be shrewd deal but sounds like Serie A clubs are pushing for the deal more
