The stronger in depth we get this squad, the easier it will be to move on some players I think as we would be able to leave Maguire and Lindelof out of the squad with no big difference to our bench which hopefully will make them more eager to look for a new club.

Maguire is getting to an age now where every retirement penny is likely to be prioritised over personal ambition - that last big contract players seek, he’s probably on it right now, unless Saudi Arabia comes calling, so I can’t see him entertaining anything that has him paid less. As ever, it’s us buying him out or subsidising the difference or him staying exactly where he is, as it ever was thus. I don’t even think potentially missing out on the World Cup will sway him, and I think that is sound business sense on his end because once he’s done as a footballer, his earning potential will be the relative pits.

Yeah, he is free agent so we can sign him later right? I do think we need him. A left foot CB, can play back up LB, experienced. Very good option
