Actually the opposite is true. I am saying that Hermoso lack of inches is not important because he'll be acting as cover for a CB and/or a LB whose already shorter and weaker in aerial duels then he is. If you read my first posts on the matter I described this signing as a non brainer.
Never heard of him - but since he’s an Atletico player, does that mean he’s dirty and good at the dark arts?

This, plus he’s in the bottom 17th percentile for aerial duels won. I specifically in my initial post said if he’s playing beside Martinez there’s an obvious problem there. Read a little more.

Don't know too much about him really, and probably more agent / media links rather than anything concrete, but wouldn't be opposed to this kind of cheaper signing for our CB / LB cover.

With finances an issue, I'd rather us save money defensively (rather than another expensive signing in De Ligt or Branthwaite) and spend that on getting a DM of the Ugarte level. Rather than spending big on another CB and having to go down the Amrabat route for the only DM.
Though happy with Amrabat as a cheap second CM signing, same as I'd be happy with someone like Hermoso as a cheap second CB addition after Yoro.

The players you are trying to compare him to are Man City and Arsenal defenders who average 60% of the ball and face a lot less work in aerial duels. Even still, guys like Saliba, Dias, Gabriel etc. are a lot higher on the percentiles and win more duels. There’s context to comparisons.
I’m only being condescending because you read one line from an entire post and went on a weird tirade about height whilst being wrong — (6ft is quite literally below the average height of a Premier League CB, and not only that, I raised it specifically in the point of pairing him with Martinez).
They tried to lowball him in terms of salary.

Doubt that we were aiming to sign 4 defenders this window. We wanted upgrade on Lindelof, and cover for Dalot/Shaw, and Mazraoui and De Ligt provided that. Since AWB covers for Dalot now, we are just signing a LCB/LB player now is my guess.
He lost 3 matches last season according to transfermarkt as opposed to the 20 games lost by the teacher's pet (De Ligt)
Mazraoui was only bought if AWB leaves. It's been well reported we were happy to get up to 3 fresh defenders outside of that.
Very credible reporters, such as Melissa Reddy in case you don't rate Romano (who echoed the same anyway) said we want a LCB / LB whilst still being v close on De Ligt.
As long as he is a decent left back option this is a no brainer - looking at fbref he looks very decent on the ball...

Mainoo is our only proper midfielder for the two deeper spots. Mount/Bruno are better higher up, and Casemiro/Eriksen cant run anymore.
If we have funds, priority should be getting 2 midfielders in, preferably those who can start. Not stocking up CBs, when Yoro/Martinez/New CB is more than enough. If that new CB is Hermoso who can cover LB, then De Ligt aint happening.
We are not signing 3CBs, when we have other holes all over the pitch, and we seem to be broke. The club cannot be that stupid. Bookmark this.
Licha is also our only proper CB capable of playing in a progressive style. And we literally have no fit left backs.

We have McT and Collyer coming through, Casemiro is still with us. Two of these guys are the equivalents of Maguire or Lindelof as options in defence.

No idea who he is or how good he is. Presumably not that good if he's on a free still without a club. That being said if we brought him on a short term deal on a free with low wages as back up, it would be very sensible given Malacia's knee is fecked. Should give Amass a chance to develop over the next 18 months or so with a view of him taking over.
We can bring in a free signing at LB (who can also cover LCB) and De Ligt. That's 7 options at CB with one that would be a LB cover.
We also have Mount, Mainoo, Bruno, Casemiro, McTominay Collyer and at least one new CM.
We wouldn't be hoarding defenders any more than we are hoarding midfielders.
And your opinion of what our plan would be is less relevant to those who have actually reported the strategy, since they bring in very strong credibility. I never mentioned Luckhurst by the way.

Haa, the narrative around him is now, he's on a free so he’s crap. He's not good enough for Atletico so why should he be for us. No context behind those statements. He played over 85% of their games last season, Atletico tried to low ball him salary wise so he chose to go into free agency. He's 29 and at a solid age for a CB and is solid LB cover too. Great at advancing with the ball and he's tough as nails. Would be a shrewd move.

7 CBs for 2 spots is crazy, even if one of them can cover for a FB. Just not happening, lots of reporters say a lot of things, doesnt mean its gonna happen.
