Mario Gomez

I actually wouldn't be surprised if this happened.

Van Gaal did make him the main man for Bayern after shunning Olic and it did work out for him to be fair. It's that huge injury and recent collapse at Fiorentina that looks distasteful, sort of reminiscent to Falcao.

He's been doing decent at Besiktas; 8 in 11 games. I'd take him as a bench option due to our lack of options and he'd be a relatively decent short term fix but he should be nowhere near that starting XI.

113 in 174 games plus 26 assists, I was sure I remembered him as some kind of a prolific goalscorer but yea, his time at Fiora plus injuries, plus he's like what, 30 now? (just like Rooney...)

In two of his 4 seasons for us he wasn't even our main striker. In the 2 seasons he was he really was amazing. 12/12 in the 11/12 CL campaign.

Not a snowball chance in hell, that Gomez will join a club with LvG as coach. LvG froze him out for the first years and the quote ("He is not my player.") was flying around. He played in his second season because there weren´t any alternatives and things went tits up.

Whoever is saying that Klose is better than Rooney must be joking.

This guy is the opposite of what we Need. If we wanted a poacher Chicha would be twice the Player Gomez is.

Oh - I am not really sure that Schweinsteiger would like that. For two guys who once have been the best friends it was really special to not see them near each other in any of the recent 1000 photos made of the German national team last week...

(Not that it has not already been like this in the last season they have been together at Munich. One of the rumours around this was that Schweinsteiger told to the officials at Bayern "him or me"...

What rumours about this are right - who knows. But from being very close, sitting in the bus together, spending a lot of the spare time together it changed into not more contact then necessary (you cannot totally change that when you are in one team).

I'd take him on loan for the rest of the season, he's more than good enough for a back up striker.

He's an awful back-up striker in my opinion, he's so sensitive. He needs to feel loved, needs to start regularly to find form. It's always been a massive problem for the nationalteam, because you can't use him as a back-up, throw him in as a sub. If his confidence is even slightly down, he turns into a waste of space. And that happened a lot because Klose was clearly the first choice striker most of the time.

I doubt he wants to move to a big club again. When he left Bayern, he made it clear that he rather starts regularly at a smaller club than fight for a spot/be a back-up again. He wants to play as much as possible. Because of injuries it didn't work out for him in Italy at all, he was mostly awful in the last 2 years. I'm surprised that there are rumours about him now just because he had a good start on loan in Turkey.

Would still probably score more goals than Rooney though.
Drogba scored 11 in 11 matches for Montreal by the way, maybe he's an option?
I don't know whether to laugh or cry. See my my captain.

Well this was a bump I wasn't expecting. Great hair though.

I do think a player being suited to coming off the bench is a real thing.

Maybe just the obvious contrast of Berbatov continuously offering nothing off the bench (check the stats for his tenure here, they are insane in that regard) and generally play well when starting and seeing Chicharito be so dangerous is the reason. But then again Giggs was also mostly able to make an impact as a sub when similarly talented midfielders failed to distinguish themselves for us in that regard.

As for Gomez, maybe he's matured a bit? I really could see Van Gaal bringing in a 9 he can count on to score goals, except if that was the case why not hang on to RVP or Chicharito for one more year?

I don't know, I haven't seen anything of him since he moved to Turkey. I don't think struggling with confidence is a question of maturity though. Either way, like others have said before, I highly doubt Schweinsteiger would want to play in the same team as Gomez again and I doubt Gomez would want to play for van Gaal again.

Apparently leaving Besiktas for obvious reasons. After his return to form I would love United to sign him as a number 9 option. When in shape he's absolutely lethal and for me up there in the top bracket of number 9's. Potentially more prolific than anything we have right now and tailormade for the Premier League - strong body, great header, shoots with both legs.

Last thing you'd want his for him to replace Giroud at Arsenal.

We have Zlatan, Rashford, Martial and Rooney for one lone striker spot.

We don't need Mario Gomez.

Feck, totally forgot we scored Zlatan. Happy days. Rooney doesn't belong in that row of names, though. Martial plays out wide. Still, you're right. We are good.

Liverpool or Arsenal could be interested in my opinion. Or clubs like Everton or Southampton.

How old is he now? Seems like he has been around for years. A good option for most Premiership teams but not good enough for United IMO, and there's a reason why he's at Besiktas.

He had a rough patch in his carreer, some bad injuries etc. Great season at Besiktas last year, league top scorer. His showing at the EURO 2016 looked like he's back to his old self. Scores by the bucketload when in top form, easily good enough for United, at least as a backup striker. Fiorentina is willing to let him go for 7 Mio Euro. Will he stay injury-free, though?
