Mario Götze

at the quoted figures of £20 million he has got to be worth a punt though... I imagine Will Hughes from Derby would cost about the same!

Some local munich paper (TZ) put his price tag at €15-20m and yes, he should easily be worth the risk for that fee.

Even his wages are not that high by modern premier league standards for a top player (about £100k a week)
Whoever gets him will have a bargain (relatively speaking given some of the fees and wages paid out these days)

Afaik he's suppsedly on €12m a year, I'm pretty sure that means more than 100k pounds a week

"Are you sure it was Liverpool that called?"

After Ancelotti explicitly stated he doesn't see a role for Götze in his plans next season? I doubt that, he really needs to have increased playing time. To make such a drastic decision before the window has even opened seems unlikely imo.

Did he, that was what was reported but tbh we don't know what he told Gotze

Disappointing but not surprising. Hopefully we move on to other targets.

That would be really interesting, because he either really tries to fight for his place or he is just waiting for the big pay check. The first option could actually surprise one or two people, because he has the talent to get ahead of Costa, Coman or Thiago. That said he has to show a different attitude and I don´t really believe the news yet.

Götze can surely say that he wants to stay.
But i doubt Bayern Munich will allow that.
They really can't force him. They will tell him he's going to spend the whole season on the bench and he looks like he doesn't mind. Ancelotti already told him to go.

We were supposedly prepared to offer him in excess of £150K/week, I can't think of many places where he'll get more if he joins on a free in January.

Of course they can't force him......but Ancelotti or the club can tell him "We don't plan with you".
That will give him a bad image, a 4th bad football year in a row and he will lose his place in the national team.

Maybe this is a stunt to put pressure on Bayern in order to lower the fee? It would seem foolish to me to stay for another year at a club where he isn't wanted, especially when the past three years weren't too kind to him and he still has a lot of potentially good years left in his career.

Bayern did not like his agent and gotze knows there will be no Cl football or a chance to win anythjng with liverpool. I think he stays the year and goes back to dortmund on a free.

They would probably put him in the second team for the entire season if he tried something like that.

Obviously he is not going to say that. Also i think he will be more than happy to stay longer if he performs, but i think he does not suit Bayern style.

Maybe he is eye-balling a big signing bonus next summer. Maybe he tries to attract a team that plays in the CL. It is hard to tell. Everything indicated that he´ll leave and I still think that this is going to happen.

Most likely he's just trying to get Bayern to move the deal along faster.

They don't want him and he knows it.

Move the deal along faster by firing the agent trying to arrange the move and then publicly declaring he's staying? How does that work?

Who knows why he fired his agent. Could have been trying to get too big a cut of the deal for himself or playing too long a waiting game with Bayern's demands, Gotze's contract runs out at the end of next year and indicating he's more than prepared to see out his contract and leave for nothing next year forces Bayern's hand.

Doing exactly what I said a few weeks back. Why allow the club to make a profit of you, when you can bank it all for yourself by running down your contract! He´s going to take the €12M for the last year and then get a signing fee of €10M-€15M. Smart boy.

Force what hand? All the rumors out there have reported Ancelotti telling Gotze he can leave. This is Bayern we are talking about, not Everton or Crystal Palace that needs to hold on to one of their players for top money. How about we not try to second guess a deeper meaning to everything and call it as it is? Most footballers are simpletons. He wants to try and fight for his place, if he fails he can leave in January or even next summer for free.

He's 23, there is nothing smart about deciding to stay at a club where you won't play at that age. He has plenty of time left to take the extra millions later on in his career. Besides, Bayern wants to sell him this summer so if he does stay, it's safe to say he'll get even less gametime than this season. Silly boy.
