Mario Balotelli

It's going to be a recipe for disaster if he ends up at City. Can't see him sticking around for more than a season or two.

He could be the next WPOTY if he came to us.

Fergie just text me - he's gotta car waiting at Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelan Airport & Gills riding shotgun....

Done deal - deal done.... Close thread!

Um okay then.

There is also the possibility that he had a good relationship with Mancini and hence wants to work with him again.

Anyway... Tevez/Ballotelli/Adebayor with Santa Cruz Bellamy as back up... thats just insane on paper mind you.... Compare that to Rooney/Berbs/Owen/Hernandez/Macheda/Diouf/Welbeck... I still city edges us in the striking department...

Still United will win the PL though, city don't have enough backbone and their team is still new. Mancini is no Mourinho.

He could, but he needs to actually want to become the best. Thats why Ronaldo was/is impressive. His attitude in terms of winning and becoming the best he can be is pretty much second to none.

Robinho doesn't have half of that desire and thats his problem.

But Ronaldinho is just the same in terms of attitude. He was still the worlds best player. Robinho isn't half as bad as him defensively. He at least run at opponents and closes on passing routes. Wouldn't have made the Brazil squad if he didn't do just that.
He simply wants to me liked and wants to be one of the top dogs in earning and respect. If you pander him a bit and let him play like he does with Brazil than he's a happy chap.

He's never going to join us though. His wages are crazy. Let him stay at City and bleed the Arabs like a leech would. Not going to hurt them particularly but it's gonna leave a mark and annoy you.

All we need it two signings and we will be fine, whether we make them or not is another question. City still have to develop a formation for these players which will be interesting.

Even before that they have to find places in within the 25 man squad limit.

I can't quite believe Balotelli is a priority at the moment when we clearly need a creative CM to backup Scholes.

Yeah that had struck me too! I'm struggling to believe that we're going to start the season with the same central midfield that was clearly inadequate at the top level last year. Still I wouldn't complain if we signed super mario, especially if it mean't offloading Owen to make room.

Kind of have the same feeling as you. I can't see any of our midfielders improving to say we don't need a fresh face in there.

Be curious to know how a midfield can go from good enough to win the league (and make a CL final) to "clearly inadequate" in a single season?

Apparently City bid 25 Million Euros right?

Yes please.. This is exactly what I have been thinking about since ages.. Owen needs to go.. Although if SAF decides to keep him on for another season and get rid of Berbatov this season instead that would do too.. As in Theory we have many young strikers coming through so getting rid of 2 1st team strikers (within 2 years) to eventually make room for those coming through makes alot of sense to me..

Rooney
New Striker
Hernandez
Macheda
Welbeck
Diouf
King
Keane

On Paper we would have a good enough force and mix of players to occupy the striking positions..

Judging by the way Berba played against Celtic he won't be going far. I'll be very surprised if we sign another striker this year.

Well Scholes is getting closer to retirement,Hargreaves I have nothing to say for, Carrick is just shit since Rome 08, Gibson can...shoot, Anderson has a long term knee injury and we don't know how he'll come back and how he'll play. But well we have Fletcher

Clearly not inadequate but we DO need some addition. Scholes can't play every game.

Seriously How has Balotelli become such a star in the last few days since we were linked with him?

Everyone talked about him as a talented player but how come now suddenly everyone is wanking over him?

Is he that good?

Ronaldo, Hargreaves, Tevez. There you go!!

O add to that a younger Paul Scholes.

It's called the ravages of age and injury problems, I should make it clear that a midfield 2 of Fletcher-Scholes or a three of Fletcher-Scholes-Carrick is good but I can't see us beating the best teams in Europe with it. Surely you agree that we are desperately lacking a creative central midfielder to replace/cover for Scholes?

Just shows the lack of excitment at United at the minuite i'm affraid.

Ronaldo and Tevez play in midfield, do they?

No doubt we could have done without Hargreaves missing an entire season but it's not unreasonable to expect the like of Anderson, Gibson and Cleverley to improve to a point where they give us decent options.

It's our first options that our below par not the back up. A good attacking line can compensate for a less effective midfield, sure i don't need to tell you that.

Besides Fletcher who do we have? I'll leave Scholes out because he is more of a luxury player, he can't play week in week out.

Yeah so mario will be a great buy for us :) but lets not forget last season we scored more then the previous season. We obviously will miss tevez dropping deep in midfield and even to an extent Rooney as he's more and more in the box.

We have talent indoors. We could buy, we might use what we have. We do have creativity sprinkled round the pitch in scholes, nani, obertan, rooney, berbatov etc so we're not too bad. We'll just have to wait and see

In terms of attacking, we can expect more from Valencia and Nani this season. Plus Obertan might feature more. Not to mention the likes of Diouf, Hernandez, Welbeck and Macheda.

We do lack a back-up to Fletcher if Hargreaves misses another whole season. I agree on that. Maybe SAF thinks Gibson, Anderson or Cleverley can be that player. He'll also be hoping for a much better season from Carrick. Time will tell. We've got a few options for the season ahead. The panic about our midfield being "clearly inadequate" is well over the top.

I hope he goes to City. City seems to be stocking up on all the cnuts; it will be funny to see them self-destruct.

Exactly, too many cnuts to control. SAF has always been good at controlling wild personalities but even he couldn't do anything with that lot

I honestly don't know where this €35 million figure is coming from. He is young and has great potential but everytime I've seen him play (which in fairness probably isn't enough to judge) he hasn't shown me anything to justify that money

Speaking of Carrick, does anyone know why he didn't feature at all against Celtic?

Needed a break after his World Cup............ actually I don't know

So what's going on here, is there something solid on this transfer or what?

Well, Hargreaves is dead, Carrick plays like he's dead, zombie like. Scholes and Giggs are both closer to 40 than 30.

I can see why questions are being raised. I would welcome the signing of a top midfielder.

Inadequate is wrong though. Fletcher is a bright spot.

Edit: Remember, two years ago we were having serious debates about who was better, Carrick or Alonso. I'm thinking Alonso might edge it now.

:smirk:

City are negotiating right now. We haven't spoken to Inter about any of their players. We aren't going to be attempting to outbid City on any player over the next few years. Balotelli will either stay at Inter or join City.

There's no competition now

As far as United is concerned, I doubt it. It's one of those cases that we'll have a player linked with us, we'll hear about 'meetings' involving 'senior people at United'... and then he'll sign for another club and people will realise we were never in the running.

Well to be fair to him he is very talented, but not too long ago people on here were talking about the biggest waste of talent ever - now that we are linked with him people have jumped the gun a little and acting like he will become the best player in the world.

Its only natural i suppose
