That's a lot of midfielders, shock. Carrick would have to go and Scholes retire to make room. Gibson too, granted that's likely.

No comparison and I think they play differently/offer different thing.
One also plays in the hardest league in the world, the other gets time and space to take a piss on the field before needing to pass.
Just because EPL is better than the Serie A doesn't mean some of their players can't be better.
I think this is just a blind assumption. Modric is very good but Hamsik is younger and can still improve. Modric doesn't score as many goals as Hamsik does.
Serie A greater than any outside of the Premiership and I include Lal Liga and the german one, this does not mean that Hamsik would struggle in the Prem, just that he'd have to adjust. Going by your logic Darren Bent is one of the worlds best strikers just because he plays in the Premiership.

I feel confident in stating that if we are to raid Italy for our next playmaker, it should be Pastore, not Hamsik!
I agree, and I'd love us to get the lad but Pastore does dream of Barca and has already stated he'd rather play there than with us.
Corriero del Sporto reporting that Barca, Madrid and us had scouts at the game last night watching Hamsik. Shame he was crap, again.
He seems to be crap more often than not.
Considering all the hype surrounding this guy he has been underwhelming everytime i have seen him, far from the world beater some make him out to be.
This season yes. He's doing a right Rooney and Torres.

Comparison to previous seasons he was
Rodwell and Stekelenburg(or any other keeper) are very realistic targets. We might also be lucky enough to nab one more, possibly from the remaining names on that list.
Considering that we're in real need of a creative playmaking central midfielder, I really do hope we nab one more or at least get one in place of rodwell (I don't think he's the type of player we need right now).

Are Hamsik, Pastore and Defour all attacking midfielders? I've not seen enough of any of them, but we've been linked with them all over the last year quite much.
Hamsik and Pastore are. Dont know much about Defour.
From what I've seen he seems to sit and wait for the game to present him with the ball in good positions rather than want the ball like a Scholes, Modric, Fabregas etc would. We need someone who can drastically improve the midfield rather than be on the periphery and make a difference to the scoreline should a chance for him open up.
What we need is Modric, feck all else.
Sod the talented players from other leagues, an overpriced player of a similar ilk from a premier league club ftw.
I honestly think that Sanchez would probably cost us less than Spurs would ask for Modric.
Not that Modric isn't a very good player, but as Fergie would say "where's the value?"
He definitely would but he is mainly a winger while Modric is a play maker. And a central midfielder is what we need right now. I know Sanchez can play through the middle but he is not a typical central midfielder.
