I still think he looks the result of some deranged form of Giraffe/baboon rape.
Liverpool have stepped up their pursuit of Napoli midfielder Marek Hamsik, according to reports in his native Slovakia.
Former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez was keen on signing the 23-year-old playmaker during his time at the club. But it is thought his summer departure has done nothing to dampen Liverpool’s interest.
Damien Comolli, the club’s new director of football strategy, has reportedly identified Hamsik – often compared to Czech Republic legend Pavel Nedved – as a key transfer target.
Liverpool are not the only team considering an offer for the £12m-rated star, but Napoli insist no decision will be made on his sale until the end of the season. (TalkSPORT)
Now in his fourth season at Napoli, Marek Hamsik has become something of a cult hero at the Serie A side and the chances of Liverpool nabbing the Slovakian are extremely slim as the 23 year old has repeatedly claimed he is very happy in Naples.
The fact that Walter Mazzarri’s side are making real headway in their hopes for a long awaited title, Napoli are currently second to AC Milan in the table, makes a move to the Premier League even more unlikely. One can see why Roy Hodgson would be interested in the former Brescia man but I don’t see this one coming off.
The likes of Manchester United and Inter Milan are also said to be trailing the talented playmaker with an eye for goal.

I don't rate him THAT high, but I'd hate if Liverpool actually got him and we didn't, for some reason.
Gambit...does caughtoffside have a story for you. Time to get your candle back out?
Manchester United Prepared to Spend £35m to Land Impressive Paul Scholes Replacement
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson will step up his pursuit of Napoli playmaker Marek Hamsik as he looks to sign the Slovakian international this summer. The Scot is looking to freshen things up at Old Trafford and is willing to make a big money offer for the talented 23 year old.
Some Italian sources believe that Ferguson is willing to offer up to £35m for Hamsik who has become a cult hero at the Stadio San Paolo and now into his fourth season at the Naples club the former Brescia man has become a crucial part of the club’s up turn in fortunes.
Hamsik arrived at the club when they were struggling in mid table after securing a meteoric rise back to the Italian top tier after a long period of financial instability threatened to ruin the club. Thanks to the Slovakian’s performances Napoli are currently in second spot in Serie A and a rejuvenated force in Italian football.
The talented playmaker is a wanted man though and even though he is tied to a long term contract a number of sides are looking to snap up Hamsik and the Manchester United boss hopes to bring the goal scoring midfielder to the club to help the Premier League side build for a bright future as a number of the old guard near the end of their glittering careers. Many reports suggest that Ferguson sees the Napoli man as the ideal man to act as a Paul Scholes replacement.
Chelsea preparing £34m summer bid for Napoli midfielder Marek Hamsik - report
Chelsea are reportedly lining up a €40 million (£34m) summer bid for Napoli star Marek Hamsik.
Despite Uefa calls for a crackdown on spending, the west London club are prepared to splash the cash once again by landing Hamsik in June.
Calcionews24.com reports the 23-year-old Slovakia international is being followed by Carlo Ancelotti, who is working alongside Roman Abramovich in planning a £34m bid.
However, back in September Hamsik signed a three-year extension to his 2012 deal, taking him to 2015 - a sign of his committment to the club who signed him from Brescia in 2007.
Napoli chief Aurelio De Laurentiis has also reiterated his stance that Hamsik is not for sale despite further interest from Manchester United and Inter.
The goal.com hamsik to chelsea originated in the Italian media. If Goal.com or Caughtoffside.com come up with anything, there is absolutely no truth in them. I m not saying the other sources are reliable but they are not as bad as these two.
Anyways I just hope we sign at least this lad. He will good value for money and he himself said it would be hard to turn down United. He is better than Ninis and is the only available player out there, who has not moved to a new team or signed a new contract in the last six months, that we can sign to replace Scholes.
I think Fergie will go for young English or Kagawa of japan before he would blow so much cash on Hamsik. Hamsik would be amazing but I am sure Fergie will look to get potential that he can develop for a better price. Kagawa looks good and would sell zillions of more shirts that Hamsik!!

I'm still not sure he's the midfielder we need. I don't really see him as a replacement for Scholes. SAF spent £17m on that boy Anderson, he was the replacement for Scholes and he won't be giving up on him and thrashing out £40m on a player. We're far more likely to sign a Roy Keane type I think.
Is he anywhere near as good as Scholes when it comes to passing?
Is he anywhere near as good as Scholes when it comes to passing?
is anyone?
not many thats for sure. It seems the playmaker types of xavi and scholes are on the wane. Heard good things about Thiago Alcantara in the Barcelona B squad though i've never anything of him.
Fabregas is the closed young(ish) player I can think of, but he never pings the diagonal balls like Scholes does, in fact Xavi doesn't really either. i'd say Pirlo was the most similar to Scholes but in reality he's a very unique player with his passing abilities. I think we need to give up on the notion of getting a direct Scholes replacement, this guy is the best English midfielder of his generation after all.
Xavi doesnt really play the longer ball as thats not Barca style nor is it Arsenal style. Scholes is one of the few players whon could play in a game where he passes it 60 yards or when he is playing loads of short passes.
Manchester United and Chelsea's hopes of signing Napoli playmaker Marek Hamsik have been dashed by the Italian club's chairman.
The Slovakian midfielder has helped the Serie A side to second in the league, with eight goals and placed them in contention for Champions League qualification.
And that success means Aurelio De Laurentiis reportedly refused a £25m Chelsea enquiry for the 23-year-old and will hold out until his £35m valuation is met.
Speaking to Italian radio he said: "We do not intend to sell Hamsik and we are even less likely to if we reach the Champions League, it would be a disaster to see him go."
The northern Italian club have not won a top flight title or had European success since the late 1980's when Diego Maradona was in their side.
Is he anywhere near as good as Scholes when it comes to passing?
We're not signing him.
Hamsik cannot play those wonderful diagonal balls Scholes plays but he is more than capable of some brilliant passing and through balls.
We're not signing him.
REASON: There will likely be a bidding war for him with Chelsea and City strongly linked, he might want to stay at Napoli anyway as they look likely to be in CL next season and have a good and perspective team, he'll probably cost £35m+ in this market which I doubt we could afford and isn't the box to box midfielder Ferguson should be looking for at the minute. If we were ever to pay a hefty price for a midfielder, it'd more likely be someone like Modric who has been proven in PL or at least someone who's been proven outside of his domestic league when it's not PL (Champions League, international competition), Hamsik hasn't done either.
The previous 2 seasons Hamsik, was every bit the box to box midfielder.
Today only Xavi and Pirlo are as good passers of the ball as Scholesy is. Hamsik cannot play those wonderful diagonal balls Scholes plays but he is more than capable of some brilliant passing and through balls.
