Marcus Rashford (out)

Yet another huge mistake by the club offering him a new deal in summer, so many of us saw it a mile off, have said how poor his attitude has become for the last few years, yet the club couldn't see it?

If Mitten was right regarding past managers complaining about his attitude, I don't understand why we have continued to pander to him and stroke his ego.

Glad Amorim has the balls to drop him and make sure the higher ups are forced to sell him.
Because the club attached financial value to him. He is purely a financial asset and has been for a long time.

3 minutes ago he posted this...

Entertain what? The club needs to stop acting like it has no rules or principle for underperforming overpaid players. We have been entertaining him for ages. Its time he takes some responsibility. So far he has done nothing but being unprofessional and ungrateful.

I doubt he would want to rot (and not even on the bench). His ego wont let it. His agent wont let it because while he gets money, his value decreases rapidly the more he is not even included in the squad.
Entertain the fact that we literally might be stuck with this guy because there isn't a club on the planet that will take on his salary or the drama involved with taking him on..

Does Amorin not realise we need to sell this guy?

With those comments we surely are just scaring away any offer.
That's never the manager's job to "sell" any of the players, that's why he is manager and the club's transfer team has to deal with that shit.

This may be clever by Amorim.

It leaves little space to maneuver for Rashford and the club.

Ideally, all agree to move heaven and earth for him to leave.

If he doesn't leave, the only way Rashford comes out of this well is by proving Amorim wrong on the pitch.

So all our prodigies have turned into caricatures.
Ravel
Pogba
Mason,
Lingard
Marcus.
I guess Marshal.
Is everything ok in our setup in developing them as proper adults?
Can also add Brandon Williams. Had four weeks of use for us and got four year contract on about £60k. 13,5 million in wages... to Brandon Williams...

But at least we made sure we kept his feet on the ground, not getting carried away:

I saw that he was still a free agent right now. That’s remarkably bad. 24 years old and he hasn’t played for a football club since the summer of 2024.

I don't really see the problem. Amorim has left the door open for Rashford to return. He said that the interview wasn't simply down to Rashford but also people around him that might not always have his best interest at heart. He also said it would've been good to have him as an option today. It's not like the door is completely closed, he's just saying that Rashford has to change as he's not going to change his standards or he won't be involved. Which will also work in the sense that it makes it quite clear that Rashford has to make a decision, either lower your requirements and move in january, buckle up and start giving everything or you don't play.

Saying it to him in private is very different from saying it in public. One is laying standards, the other is throwing the player under the bus. Which is fine if it is in our best interests to throw the player under the bus - it isn't right now, when we're trying really hard to find someone who will buy into Rashford's redemption well enough to get his wage problem at least partially off our hands. Once the window is shut, and Rashford is here for the next 6 months - I wouldn't have had any issue with Amorim's comments. The timing is ill-considered, perhaps.

To be honest I’m sick to fecking death of fans worrying about managers calling these payers out. Happened with Jose, the sheep in our fanbase sided with the players and happy clapped twats like Pogba. He got fired but was proven right

Same with Rangnick. Fans didn’t like it, he got sacked, proven correct.

It’s not a gaffe, he’s putting it out there because there’s nothing to lose. If he dresses it up a certain way then fans are still in delusion over it all, just like they have been all these years with so many bad players. Fans want us to clear out the dead wood, then don’t like it when a coach lays down a marker and calls out a player who is fooling everyone.

Good on him. Force the club to have to do something about it fit once, don’t let them hide behind indecision and inactivity over selling “big names” just like they did with Pogba all those years.

It’s time for everyone to get real about things and stop pretending. No club with their salt doesn’t know about Rashford no matter what he says to media. The question for them is whether they can bring more from him in a new environment, or whether he’s worth a punt. We’re kidding nobody by saying one thing and leaving him out every week.

I don't know if the last bolded bit is true. He's saying what we as fans feel watching him week in week out, listening to the PR, watching training videos, reacting to events in his life. This is over years and years of following the club - don't think every single decision maker at potential clubs will have the same perspective. It is possible for us to say that we need to clear out wages despite Rashford training well, and that while he wants a new challenge, he is not as damaged goods as the media would have you believe. It is in the club's best interests to get a player like him off our books, so we need to hold the cards. Players worse than Rashford have gotten second chances - look at Sancho.

Not everyone who thinks this is wrong is clapping for Rashford. And it doesn't mean that I didn't like what he said. Fantastic statement - say it behind closed doors right to the players' face, tell the board you're not playing him because he's a twat. Let the PR continue till he's out, and then we move on.

Don't mind some hard truths. Most of us have to work for years to earn a week of his salary. I have no sympathy for anyone getting flak for downing tools.

Finally a manager who is holding the players accountable.

100% with Amorin, give 100% or don't play. This is what we need to turn our team around. We need fighters with 100% commitment to the cause

Agree.

This manager seems to be indulging no one. Twelve bloody years of the tail wagging the dog looks like it might be at last coming to an end. All that Rashy this, Rashy that rubbish we had under Ole and then a succession of managers treating him like he was some world class striker in the making.

Pretty much every single word, however clumsy it might appear, from Amorims mouth I find myself nodding in agreement.

That is not exactly what you say during transfer window, when you need to sell. Not that there is a club that wants him, but if you say he is working hard, getting better, blah, jada, maybe, just maybe some suckers might buy it and then buy him for more than peanuts, cause he is "working hard".
What happens when transfer window shuts? Think SJR & Co. will allow mr. ManUtd to sit on his ass on those wages and not play? No! He/they will tell Ruben he has to play. What then, after all these words...
Clubs that can actually afford his wages are not imbeciles, they know what’s up. That’s why he is still here. No harm to say the truth and at least send a message to the likes of Garnacho and Mainoo.

Yep, spot on. Even if you don’t know what’s happening at training…the guys been jogging around on the pitch for the past 18 months in front of the whole football world.

What Mitten said was stuff that we already know. And I believe his words were more 'other managers have had issues with Rashford'.

Mitten himself said that above quote was based on information already out there. So the Belfast thing, the turning up for training late etc etc

This is the player that went public with his intentions to leave the club sooner rather than later, talking about next steps, ambitions.

"The last time Rashford returned to Button Lane, he was asked by a young girl “what’s your biggest achievement?” He replied, “I haven't achieved it yet.” That attitude echoes his love of “Relentless”, the book by the American mindset guru Tim Grover. Rashford’s not fallen out of love with football, he’s still aspiring to achieve things in the sport that’s his world. “Definitely, regardless of what gets said about me I have my own dreams. I’ve achieved parts of it. But I’m not at where I want to be. But the problem is when you get there, you create another thing. It’s a cycle that never stops. There’s not really an end point.”

So yeah, i do think it's funny that he gets called out for being the complete opposite.

In terms of Amorims comments having an effect on clubs potentially bringing him in during the january transfer window, i can't imagine it has much of a negative effect at all. It's not like clubs don't do research on their own to decide if they feel he's the right player for the club. Amorims comments are just background noise. It's not like his workrate wasn't questioned before Amorim made his comments.

But at least we made sure we kept his feet on the ground, not getting carried away:

Christ almighty, I've not seen this before. So sad, all that money wasted on absolute shite and he's now without a club at 24 is it? I liked the look of him in those first few games, though a right footer at LB always makes me a little uncomfortable.

He was easily good enough for a decent Championship career had he stayed focused.

Whitwell confirms that Barca is his only option: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/60...nited-rashford-amorim-return-transfer-update/

Rashford is available for loan this month, but after interest from AC Milan, Juventus and Borussia Dortmund his options appear to have come down to Barcelona.

The forward would prefer a move to the Nou Camp, but financing his wages are the big complicating factor for the Spanish giants.

Rashford responded to the victory on social media after the game, saying on Instagram: “Congratulations on the win, lads!”

The questions gotta be annoying as hell. The guy hasn’t been in the squad for weeks and weeks. How is he even relevant, as it relates to the game?
Because the team has been rubbish so one of your most talented players not playing for non-injury related reasons will constantly be asked. It's not rocket science.

I am not sure if this is helping to sell him. But it's sad that this is happening with another local boy, massive talent and someone who was expected as main offensive guy of current generation.
Honestly, what team in Europe could risk him now? Marseille?

We’ve tried every approach in the past and it hasn’t worked. When Jose and RR tried this, they weren’t backed by the club. Call his bluff in public, burn the bridges and force him out. If he’s got anything about him he’ll rethink his position on wages or whatever, and get himself out of here. Because at the moment, soundbites about him training well haven’t worked. We’ve a few days of the window and he’s still sat here with no clear intention of leaving. We have nothing to lose.

The full quote makes it much better than the cherry-picked portion for sure. Makes it sound like the door is open rather than him saying he has no chance. We'll see what happens.

this is obviously an extreme example, but theres a spectrum to this type of stuff and its why it annoys me when people act as if how a player carries himself and behaves off pitch isnt a possible indicator of their character. its obvioulsy not always black and white, giggs for example became agreat pro under fergusons firm hand but had some very private scandal going on. but this pretend rapper wannabee gangster stuff with young players nowadays is absolutely embarrassing - williams couldnt come across as more of a muppet here. likewise rashford at that nba game. it surprises me not one jot that amorim is criticising him in this manner.

I was watching boxing one night and him and Rashford were sat in the front row with their hoods up and their ridiculously oversized jewellery on show. This is whilst we were obviously playing absolutely shite and BW was an absolute nobody. I knew they were a pair of numpties when I saw that. This club have indulged some absolute feckwits over the years.
