Marcus Rashford (out) | signs for Villa on loan

So, at the end of the day the only actual options seems to be a loan deal to Aston Villa with them covering parts of his wages.

Not entirely sure that’s what he had in his mind almost 1,5 month ago when he was going on about being ready for the next step, bigger things.

I can only hope he does ever so well, and either decides he still has something to prove at United and return with a better mindset, or that playing well for Villa will attract actual interest in a permanent transfer

Can't wait to watch him bomb. Feel bad for the Villa fans. Anybody thinking Marcus has the mentality to suddenly turn some corner and start performing and training like a professional etc, is quite frankly deluded. He checked out long ago. He's done.

If he bombs he comes back from his loan with even less value. I hope he does great.

I partially agree, but as usual, players that play for a new contract or like him now at a new club, will try to impress and will have a certain fire. However, it wont last long. I can see him trying for a year or maybe two depending on where he plays next season, and then he will fade away for the remaining of his new contract. He is just not that interested anymore in playing.

I hope he succeeds and performs wildly above expectations.

Emery is a good manager, he might be able to get a tune out of Rashford. Lingard has a really successful loan spell at West Ham when his career looked done here.

It's certainly worth the punt for a team like Villa who wouldn't normally get access to a player of Rashford's quality and if it doesn't work out, he becomes our problem again.

It'll be a complete career Death Knell for him if he squanders this opportunity and chance to show his mettle. Probably widely considered finished if he fails to show some winner instinct. Let's hope he wakes up and does good so he can jumpstart his career.

Be interesting to see what the agreed fee would be if the buy clause was triggered by Villa.

I'm expecting it to be pretty low for a player of his potential as, at this stage in negotiations, with his relationship here, it's more of a buyers market in terms of negotiations and I imagine we'll have to agree to a fee that would be lower than we could potentially get after the loan if it was a success and his stock was higher and more suitors interested.

In that respect, a very good deal for Villa. If it was a commitment to buy, and we got a reasonable fee regardless of how it went, I'd say that it was us who'd covered ourselves. This way, Villa have. They'll only have to take up the option if he has a good 2nd half to the season, and will probably get him then for cheaper than his market value having arranged the fee when his stock was low.

Of course, likelihood is his form (and effort) will continue to be patchy once he's got a permanent move somewhere. But expecting to see 'up for it' Rashford during the few months of the loan. And some nauseating press and social media laughing at us and saying it 'proves' we were the problem all along. Rather than it just 'proving' that Rashford can perform when he puts the effort in, and can be p*ss poor when he doesn't.

Too bad, its only a loan. Now we have to sort of hope he will be somewhat usefull so we can get him sold the next window. Can't care less about him now, he showed ZERO last three seasons and most certainly threw managers under the bus as well. We could have had two very good players for his wage...

Hopefully this all goes through, and he has a good spell and we can move him on in the summer for £40m

I think he will raise his effort in a few key games and will put in a shift in any Champions league games.

I suspect he will consistently be late for training if he gets a few early goals and thinks he has some credit in the bank with fans.

He probably believes he will be better than others at Villa... He will be proved wrong and if he doesn't "replace" the strikers they end up losing he will be a divisive figure there too.

So I hope he gets a few early goals and does just enough to convince Villa or someone else to buy him.

He won't be allowed play against us in last game of the season. Will be interesting to see what reception he gets from both sets of fans!

If he smashes it at Villa and becomes prolific does that mean it is our club that will be the issue?

Perhaps but you shouldn't see things that way. Like if he does bad over there people will conclude he was the problem all along and not a very good/professional player.

He's still under contract for Manchester United so it's in the best interest of everyone involved he does well despite of who is at fault. Sometimes a change of enviorment canbe good, like he will arrive to a different team with a certain dynamic already stablished so he will need to adapt to a new team and culture and maybe that's what he needs to focus and regain his form and confidence.

Wish him well and hope he goes on to tear it up in the champions league for Villa.

I still rate him as one of our best talents, but he is not right for our new manager, who is trying to decorate a room with grand piano in the way.
Wow! I actually wish him the worst. The lack of effort (basic running) when you are making millions is simply unforgivable.

Hopefully it’s an obligation rather than an option unless it’s based upon appearances. Nothing good can happen during a loan with option for a player that lacks motivation.

No, it'll just show what we've all known - that he can perform at a high level when he's putting in effort and committed performances, but he can also put in plenty of half arsed performances and show no effort or commitment.

The fact that, at a new club, and with a point to 'prove', we might well see a Rashford that's trying and putting an effort in for a few months doesn't mean the club was the issue - as professionals should be putting in full effort at all times, not just when they feel like it. And that's been the issue all along. If he starts delivering consistently season after season then that might well prove something, but I fully imagine the inconsistency and lack of effort will soon raise it's head at whichever club he joins permanently.

Villa's kit launch video (and it was good: watch it if you've not done so) featured their 'No.1 fan', erm, Ozzy Osbourne with lyrics from Paranoid, all of which now seems very prescient and needs only a teeny re-write..

Finished with my hometown club 'cause
They couldn't help me with my form
People think I am lazy
I just jog around all the time

All day long I think of bling
But nothing seems to satisfy
Think I'll lose my entourage
If I can't find more things to buy...

Nope. History suggests he gets a new contract then does feck all until renewal time.

He's been shown to be lazy even on the Overlap a discussion with Rooney and Keane which dated back years.

We want players who run and press, if you don't train well you don't output much. Rashford should be in the stands until he's flogged off.

Id honestly take a minimal 20-30m for him and off the wages.
Um no? That discussion Rooney and Neville said he trained well in the past. What Rooney said has been happening for years is an issue with his personal life.

Also, it's been repeatedly said by Amorim that it's not training perse but him needing to sort out his issues.

Hate that we're at this point and to be honest I think Amorim has handled it all wrong.

No, he hasn't. You're wrong.

Rashford has been getting a free ride now for far too long. I'm happy Amorim has come in and basically said "shape up or eff off".

Shades of Sir Alex with this situation and maybe, finally someone returning some standards to the club.

Finally we're getting rid of bad apple. Albeit temporarily.

What a good message to the rest of the team. Knuckle down, or feck off.

Very good. Worth a smile. :)

I’ve just seen the news and to be honest I think it’s pretty clear he’s going to bomb unless Villa play to all his strengths, and if he does bomb this next 6 months, we’re never going to be able to sell him. Absolute game over so we could do with him being good to be honest.

I assume we want him to find amazing form and work ethic over night, so we can get a good fee, or am I missing something?
Well if it's Villa who sign him, the fee is probably already agreed if they take up the option. So he doesn't have to necessarily find amazing form or anything as I doubt that will increase the agreed fee we'd get from Villa - but if we want to sell him to them then we certainly need him to perform good enough to impress.

If he did find 'amazing form', then we'd have been better off not having an agreed fee with Villa - agreed when his stock was low, and we're eager to move him on, so presumably not too high. His stock and market value would be much higher in the summer if he had a very good loan there, but we'd have to sell him to Villa for less than what we could probably get with more suitors interested.

It's a tricky one, really. Clever loan deal terms for Villa, and probably as good as we could do at this late stage since it's dragged on to a couple of days before the deadline.
